Gambling addiction isn't much different from alcoholism or drug addiction. Your brain may respond to the act of gambling in the same way that an alcoholic’s brain responds to a drink. The only way to cure is to learn how to develop a healthy and balanced relationship with money. Psychotherapy or cognitive behavioral therapy is the best way of treatment.

Right, once we leave gambling its much easier to regain control over our losses than we actually believe. I have been there and I lost around $300 which I thought I would never recover but then as I started working and actually got into bitcoins, it was earned in a matter of months

That was your silver lining right there (and a blessing in disguise)

My suggestion to everyone is, once you get out of gambling, just quit it. I mean it is similar to smoking where you either quit smoking or you just smoke once a week and you will be addicted again very soon

It's called quiting cold turkey

Though challenging and probably quite painful, especially if you are really addicted and your addiction involves pronounced changes in your brain chemistry as you will have to deal with withdrawal symptoms and cravings, the good news is that gambling is far from that (unlike, for example, heroin addiction)

So if you are able to give up gambling all at once and then withstand the urge to gamble again for a couple of days, you have pretty good chances to get rid of your addiction. But anyone trying this path should first understand their need for quiting as without this deep understanding, they are unlikely to succeed

Many gamblers are just being addicted into such activity which makes it seem to be normal to be addicted into gambling. It is not quite surprising to know that someone is addicted into gambling because we are talking about money. Many gamblers who became addicted, are aiming for huge money but that is the total opposite in gambling because losing would be more certain than winning.
One would be eager to get that win but he would be unawared of how huge the loss is becoming.

I was a victim too, but fortunately i have overcome the addiction. It is quite hard at first but support from the people around you was really the biggest part why I have successfully quit being a gambling addict. Also, the other half is your self. Self control will be the key at the end because it is you who would make the decision whether to quit or not.

To be honest that would be hard to prevent especially if the person is really hooked already.
I read that there are people who are addicted in gambling but they are successfully cured from addiction.
I'm thinking they resorted to a more reliable option such as rehabilitation or confining themselves away from a gambling site or place. It's more like a disorder rather than a disease cause the person its not actually sick but just being caught with his habit.
I think I got rid of the addiction and I can control now the urge to play gambling. I also set a limitation on myself on playing.
We cannot change what we are, but we can change how we do things, imo. We might be probably a chronic gambler once but we might be able to cure it by holding back even a little. Although we didn't get rid off the urge of taking bet but the thing is that we lessen probability of losing big assets/money. Diverging attention is a good thing either, but I kinda think that we would go back to gamble at some point in time. Thus, cure isn't like getting rid totally in gambling but a barrier to have our own set of limits.

That's right, It's a slow process but I think most of the people who are slowly stopping in their vices by slowing down their activities will reach their goal which is to stop it totally. Visiting some gambling site once in a while is a good practice because you can release all the urge to play a gambling game and after you are satisfied you will again wait for the urge to come in, Control is one of the most important part of the process of getting rid of addiction.

I don't think many gamblers here will be honest to post their experienced but if they do that's courageous on them, some people will always in denial to admit that they are hooked on gambling, they will always make a defense that they are just playing for fun and it's not about the money but they are entertained but they are using a lot of time and money.

Addiction is also became a big obstacle in my life before but I manage to escape the addiction. People should underetand that it is really hard to escape addiction, it takes times in order to ovecome addiction. Actually I've been consult in psychiatrist before just to help me to overcome addiction. For those gamblers who are still addicted to gambling but want to stop addiction, you can overcome it just make sure that you really have commitment to do it. You can never escape in addiction if there is no commitment in every actions.

That's the best prevention before addiction eat you. Control and limitation the only one who could more likely to help out you is yourself but the abovementioned ideas could also help.
Discipline, isn't it? Really works even in real life though, might be gambling, some sort of different addiction, financial, and so on. We must have it in our heads all the time.

I agree that we can consider gambling addiction as a disease somehow that sticks on you till it consumes everything that you have.
I actually call gambling addiction as a parasite on our body which will suck all the money we have until there is nothing left in the body.

In my case, I have been into gambling addiction way back 2017 when bitcoin's value was still very high. I was confident enough cause my investment went very well till the day came where all of the profit I made from my bitcoin investment was all gone. My fellow investor and friends helped me to cure my addiction till I was able to completely end it and regain all of my losses.

I think leaving in gambling is the one way to cured from being addicted, limiting and controlling yourself is a best way to not become addicted and no need to stop. Addiction is not easy to cure but it can be prevent by starting to set up bound to yourself and have goal before you start in gambling because who become addited are the greedy person.

If a gambler doesn't want to get addicted to gambling then there is a best solution for that. Don't gamble if you don't want to become a gambling addict simple as that. Once becoming a gambling addict, a person may result to theif, selling personal belongings just to be able to gamble which is very not good thing to do.

I already saw one of my friends selling his watch to play gambling. He says that he already losses in a few weeks ago, and he wants to try his luck again. I already told him that it's no use, and it's only wasting his time and money, but he doesn't listen to me. I let him sell his watches to someone, but when he said he wants to play online gambling, I decided to stay beside him and watch him play. He promises that he will not sell what he has for playing gambling if he loses this time, and he will stop playing gambling, and I said that is okay.

The result is he still loses, and I said so you should stop gambling, as you said. Gladly, he really stays away from gambling and not trying to play gambling, and I hope that he can prevent himself from going back to the gambling place.

I don't know if there is among us. But I can assure to myself that have resisted the urge to gamble for a long time and every time I tend to gamble I end up thinking what might happen soon. Same with how I  quit smoking that I have my smoker's cough every time I try a single stick. I'm sure anyone with addiction and live long til they out grew the addiction and will find priorities first.

I will share my experience with you all.

Initial stage: I was gambling for fun and mostly it was dice that I was gambling and I never thought any wrong would happen, I had a job in real life and I see no problem spending a part of it.

Feeling the urge: There was a time when I used to skip my job days and gamble a bit more searching for more strategies, the skip holiday I took were always loss as my job was work and get paid per day.

Addiction and Cure: Well, the addiction grew to such levels that I had to leave my job for longer and I was frustrated with gambling as I made so much loss that I used to think I should get back my loss and I will stop it, but we all know that never happens.

Finally I was able to get out of it because I was not TOO-ADDICTED and it was just that I was stuck with gambling for longer than I should have.

If things were that simple

Then, according to this train of thought, simple abstinence would do wonders and, more importantly, suffice. But it doesn't work that way in real life. Alcoholics who haven't been drinking at all for years can and do in fact often relapse into their alcohol addiction, which means they are not and have not been cured of their dependency in the slightest. In general, the same is equally applicable to gambling, as well as any other form of addiction. Put differently, forced withdrawal can be a solution but only a temporary one. It doesn't remove addiction

Following that line of thinking, I don't think there is a cure for gambling addiction at all. Once a gambler - always a gambler. We're all adrenaline junkies!

I wouldn't be so pessimistic

I'm just saying that simple abstinence (say, from alcohol), and still more so forced abstinence, either direct or mediated (e.g. via support groups), is unlikely to help since all it takes to relapse into the destructive habit is just one small slip which restarts the ruinous cycle

In this manner, it is not about successfully resisting or restraining the urge. If anyone tries that path, they are set to lose as they will be fighting with the symptom, not the disease itself. The real cure is when you don't have to struggle with your inner demons by getting rid of them altogether, which is to become indifferent to the source of your addiction

I don't think that you can be cured from gambling addiction.
If you stop gambling you were never addicted. In the past I thought that was addicted but I was able to stop gambling by the time I told so. And now I continue to gamble not with a lot of money but just for my entertainment.

I have seen that there are only 2 methods that currently work 100% to cure gambling addiction;

the first is hypnotherapy, namely by hypnotizing someone who is a gambling addict and putting the suggestion that his addiction to gambling has harmed himself and also those around..

and the second is giving religious teachings, but the second way is very difficult because it takes guidance and a strong desire from the addict. (cmiiw)

I don't think anyone can actually get cured from this terrible addiction, one can get cure from drug addiction or even worse addictions, but gambling addiction is something that totally reprograms the brain, it's like an oxygen for those who wanna escape reality by taking risks, and for many it's like risk with life as money literally means life for many.

One thing that can release me from gambling addiction is about busiing myself for a routine activity, in the past I always gambled from waking up to sleeping every day and when I started a new life by increasing my social life and doing other activities outside the house so gradually addicted or habitual the gamble that I used to do slowly will disappear and until now I have greatly improved and not always spent money or even borrowed money just to gamble.
