Literally balls to the walls huh. New to the topic but I know someone from work (two of them in fact) that are active gambler. You can legit hear them screaming mad when their teams for sports betting or their bets go awol because of a bad spin game. From what I can see though they don't really affect their work performance that much, and even the noise they make isn't that bad to affect the efficiency of their work mates, at least from the past few months that I've been in the company anyway.

Well the fact that the work is relatively leisure might be part of being able to do it properly while gambling though.
If they gamble in the office while they are resting, we will probably hear screams while they are watching the game. But if they place bets without watching the match, the office atmosphere won't be too noisy. To avoid the commotion in the office when we place a bet, we are resting so that we are not busy with office work that requires our concentration. But we also have to be careful when gambling in the office because there are colleagues who don't like it and they are the ones who can report us to our superiors. The atmosphere in the office may also not be good if there are employees who gamble while other employees are working.
If the one that catches you is a friend of yours then they will let it go but they will probably recommend you to stop gambling at your job, but if it is anyone else you can be sure you are going to get reported as there are many people out there that love to cause drama even without a legitimate reason, but if they do have one they will blow things out of proportion, and if the HR manager is the difficult kind you could get fired on the spot because of this.

I'd like to share my experience with you all. Even though I'm not currently employed, I went through a phase of gambling while I was working in the past, and the outcome wasn't positive. It affected my job performance because, as you may know, when you lose, you tend to dwell on your losses and constantly think about strategies to win. When we talk about work, it usually means we're not particularly wealthy, and imagine what happens when we gamble money we can't afford to lose, especially when we're not earning much.

Let me tell you, the feeling is far from pleasant. It leads to a decline in your work performance, which can have significant consequences since that's your primary source of income. It might be manageable if you're winning, but the harsh reality is often quite the opposite. Even when we do win, we tend to spend most of our winnings, so we don't treat it as business money. This leaves us in a precarious situation when we lose because the money we initially budgeted for our families gets diverted to cover unexpected gambling-related expenses.

I'd like to hear from those of you who have experienced this or are still dealing with it. Please share your testimonies.

Gambling at work would really just simply put you on trouble. You do go to office to have some work and not on doing gambling but if you are on break time then it should really be just fine.
Dont compromise your work for the sake of gambling because its never been worth. You would really be losing up your main income just in exchange for gambling activity on which its never been that
something that you can call to be equal. There's always time for everything and dont compromise on things on which you do know on where you do get your money from.Just like the rest been saying that once you do get caught by your boss or supervisor then you're done for but if you've been given a chance then you are lucky but if not then your'e fucked up.
This is why its always better that you should really be that only playing on the time that you are vacant or something not at work. There's ton of time on doing that.

I totally agree with you. Not only the work was being compromised, but as well as the company that you're working with. Imagine, they hire you because they saw a potential in you and that they think you are credible and suited enough for the job, and then you're wasting all of that just because you cannot control yourself. Learn how to manage your time and know that working and gambling shouldn't be done together. Also, gambling at your work only shows how unprofessional you are and how unethical you are as an employee. In the worst case, you might lose your job if ever that your employer or boss caught you doing the act. Just know that there is other time for you to gamble, and it can wait! but your work cannot. Maybe you can put this matter into this, weekdays are supposed to be your working days, and set your weekends as your gambling days or other activities.

Gambling can be devastating, this activity can preoccupy your mind, instead of thinking about the improvements you need to make in your workplace you will keep trying to develop a means of winning at all costs, gambling as an addictive habit can put one in a state of confusion.
This is if the gambler has the goal of making profit and tries as much as possible to win more easily and this kind of gambling goal can indeed give rise to complicated thinking so that he cannot focus on what he should be doing.
But when gamblers aim to have fun and simply relieve boredom by having control then gambling at work is not something that will worsen the atmosphere.
It all depends on the gambler himself in responding to it.

Quote
When I was working in a hospital I did the same thing there was a soccer bet I placed, I was monitoring when a sample was brought for us to carry out a laboratory investigation called full blood count (FBC) this is a sensitive test, if not for the help of my colleague I would been in problem by now but I thank God, but from that day I reduced the way I gamble because the incident is not what I can share here but God saw me through, we should be minimal in gambling, I didn't say we should stop because everyone to his own decision, I haven't stop gambling totally but I don't allow it to control me anymore.
From what you did it is clear that it was mistake that you placed a bet during working hours and you should have done it during your break and monitored the bets as much as possible if work was not so busy.
I know the feelings you experience when betting, which makes feel little anxious and always think about whether what you are betting on will lose or win, but if you can be responsible for work then winning or losing is not something need to worry about because you definitely accept all kinds of things the final result of the bet.

I would like to share my experience of gambling life. The journey is not too much easy for me when I started it. I belong from a middle class family and our financial condition is not too much good. I don't have someone in my life who will teach me and who have experience in gambling. From my childhood my family members are cricket lover that's why I see cricket matches from childhood with them and that give me enough experience what happened in a match. Few months ago I have seen advertisement of a beting application. Then I decided to start beting. Because of problem in my financial condition my first bet is too my risky for me because I don't have enough experience and if I lost the money I have to suffer a lot. Because of my bad luck in the match I lost my after some do it again and play it cleverly not to try my luck do it for earning. From now to then my experience is increasing and that experience help me to win every match after that I lost many matches but winning rate is much better then losing rate.
You need to be very careful, it seems that results have improved with time for you, but one of the things with probabilities is that it is very difficult to know if your positive outcomes are the result of an improvement of your skill or you are just being lucky, if it is the former then you can keep doing so while you still remain cautious, however if for some reason it is the latter then your results could change at any moment, and if that happens you need to avoid falling into despair, since it is in those moments when people take terrible decisions that can change their life for the worse.

I don't do that but if a co-worker knows that you do and that person is jealous on what you do, you'll probably receive an IR from your HR. Especially in the work culture in my country, if you're not the superior position then you'll have to be asked for so many times with favor that will be commanded to you and that's how you get along with them. But if you're in a higher position then that's nothing for the subordinates that you have. There's a term on that type of person that uses your work time in doing something else regardless of what it is, and that's likely near to be called as a jerk.
Correct. There are too many eyes in the workplace so this is not a good habit to do the gambling thing in those types of places. There's a way though, we have our phones but we will have to pay for the data so that we can manage to gamble. I think paying that will not be a problem for the gambling addicts but this will devour a lot of time instead of finishing the work early and doing it after that. I do believe that's better than doing it first.
It's true that there are superiors who will use their power against us especially if we are a candidate for receiving the higher position and let's not waste that opportunity just because of our bad gambling habit. It can always wait while being promoted cannot be. We need that for a better payroll and then we can have more space on our budget to gamble.
We always have our day-offs/weekends to play, it's not like gambling sites are going to run away, they will always be there waiting for us.
I am one of those who think that our work is sacred, if we really want to do something else like play in a casino like this, not only are we Disrespecting the work, we are not disrespecting ourselves, because basically the Our work is our livelihood and what we have to Make a market and cover household expenses, if we do not risk our work to play is something that is not Right , furthermore what you say is true, and it is a reality that Now most of the jobs have so many cameras that any movie is seen by Anyone, the supervisors, the same bosses, and what does it look like later if they take out a Phone during work hours? How is the person? Bad, because if the rules are to take out our cell phone and play, I think he has done everything in a very bad way and is being a participant in an act of mere unwiseness, so if he wants to play very much At Work what you Should do is wait to go out or wait to use your lunch break to get it.

In jobs, workers generally have at least 1 hour to have lunch, there are other jobs that give them more time, because people can even take a nap to arrive fresher, in Spain it happens a lot, and if this happens like this, Why not take Advantage of the hours we have to do it? I consider that our work is very sacred, apart from making a Mistake like that, professionalism is going down the drain, our capacity for credibility within the company is not the best, I think Many safe rules would be violated, and that is something that we should not do, because when they see that and if they decide to make a mistake , they can do it, because the offense is serious when a mistake is made to play in a casino from work, that is Something that could happen, beware if something like that happens, when they call to ask what the worker is like, they won't tell you good things.

I’m curious. Knowing fully well about your not so good financial situation, you went ahead to bet knowing you would suffer a lot if you ultimately lost the bet. But you did so anyway and still lost the bet. That was quite foolish on your part.
This thread aims to talk about experiences from gambling at work and it’s consequences. Your post is all about how you started gambling despite having poor finances. You mentioned you now play cleverly and not to try your luck but to do it for earnings. Does that mean you play for the purpose of how much earnings you can get?

It's great to see the results of the poll, indicating that 28% of the posters who voted are honest employees and don't gamble at work. Kudos to each one of you for valuing your time and the salary that your company provides. Such dedication in the workplace is commendable, and it's something we could use more of from gamblers.

Considering this thread has already reached 256 posts, there might still be some of you who haven't voted.

Don't forget to cast your vote and share your thoughts!

I believe those number will grow if everyone here vote and assume that having an active bets or placing bet on sports during office hours is considered as gambling too. But the OP case is really peculiar because he seems playing an interactive gambling in the office which is the scary part.

This kind of behavior can be punish by harsh penalties such as ban on job since it reflects on his past job. Companies have a shared network of ban of employees which is really painful if you put on the ban list just for a mere gambling.
While the number of people that answered the poll was small, it is kind of worrying such a high percentage of members are gambling at their jobs, since regardless of where you may live I would assume that gambling at work is a reason to get fired pretty much anywhere, so they are taking a massive risk for which there is no reward at all, as they could simply wait until they get home to gamble and obtain the same experience, but without any risk of getting fired.

It would be a lie to me to say ''NO''. But actually, these things are wrong because work is work and entertainment should take place elsewhere. Before, when I was working at the old company, there were times when the company had absolutely no work to do, we just went there and played cards together directly to end the day. In addition, I also participate in watching the results between football matches during work hours, but in the end, I still shouldn't do that, but the stress of gambling when I become an addict will work. It will never be effective, and even if it's just criticism for entertainment, according to work regulations, it's not private work. I have also seen friends go bankrupt because of online gambling, so I don't want anyone to let gambling dominate their lives. Happiness is short-lived because some wins are just like a few stimulants that pull us along, go deeper with blind, uncontrolled behavior.

If one should gamble why they are in their working environment that one should be when they are consider to be on their break period which they can use for anything if they don’t want to rest with it and after they have been done with their meal those kind of gambling behavior is understandable.

gambling is not a necessity but they do gambling because there are several reasons, because they have become gambling addicts so that wherever and whenever they have to gamble or gambling is only done for entertainment. doing in the work environment because they cannot place the right time when to gamble, this is like an addiction that cannot be resisted, even though in the work environment they have to gamble without thinking about their main job. that's why I say it's important to divide time so as not to become too addictive and destroy the existing order.

I never gamble at work, because the habit of gambling at work will certainly have an impact on our work later. Because we know that gambling certainly requires a lot of concentration. If we don't concentrate, we will definitely lose. Indeed, gambling is a place of entertainment, but entertainment also requires concentration, don't be careless. No one gambles wanting to lose.

What we should do is, when we are tired after a long day of work, after we get home from work we choose to spend our time gambling, which is wiser in my opinion. Apart from that, it must be admitted that in the eyes of many people, gamblers are often associated with people who are lazy at work. When gambling, everything will be forgotten. They focus completely on gambling games. That way, if your boss finds out that you are gambling, it is not impossible that your boss will fire you.

Regardless of whether you win or lose in gambling, if you are gambling at work, this means that you are indulging in other activities other than your day job and it will definitely have a bad effect on your job performance. Jobs want dedication and commitment from the person but if you are doing your personal things (like gambling on your mobile) while at work, you can't remain dedicated to your work.

If you want to gamble or bet while on work, I will advise you to gamble in your free time when you are not occupied with the job. For example, you may gamble when you are having lunch at work. This way, it will not be a burden on you and your job performance will also remain unaffected.

~snip~
I think only stupid people gamble while working because it is impossible to do activities at the same time and require concentration, obviously it will be very difficult, after all why force the desire to gamble during work time when it can be done after coming home from work, because in my personal opinion It would be better to gamble when you are relaxing so it doesn't interfere with work either.

Why do I say stupid because it could create new problems, don't just force yourself to gamble at work and your manager sees you gambling, you can definitely be fired from your job, especially when you are losing. It certainly looks worse to have bad luck all at once, my suggestion is that it's better to gamble at home even though everything is easy, you can gamble using your cell phone, at least respect your work, it will be better.
This can happen if he cannot let go of his thoughts about gambling, so he is urged to continue gambling without paying attention or seeing where he is and what he is doing. If he can appreciate his work, he obviously will not risk being fired for gambling while at work and will focus more on doing his job.

Maybe he is addicted to gambling, so his only desire is to gamble. He will gamble at the office, public places, or anywhere else. If so, he is already in a serious condition and must undergo counseling to cure his gambling addiction. Otherwise, he may lose his job, and he will not be able to make money from his work. It would be difficult for him since he didn't have his source of income anymore.
