And yes, the general rule of thumb is to not trust anyone at all. This is what makes Bitcoin go around as we are not obligated to trust anyone, and any entity at all.
This is the premise that I designed Bitcoin on. I did not want anyone needing to trust any central authority when dealing with their peer-to-peer transactions

Here’s to confirm that I’m still John K. - this account (John (John K.))  is under and always under my control. I’m super busy with RL stuff, and only have a limited time for BTC in short intervals, but I’m still alive. I’ve released most, if not all escrows under my name (apart from a few long term contracts due the end of this year), so I’d like to think I should be in the clear here unless there’s any accounting issues I’ve not taken care of. :)

Note that this signature and confirmation is only valid here and now.

Signed,
John

PS: If needed, a signature with my bitcoin address is okay too. I understand and fully support the suspicion here in general - I personally think that a healthy dose of paranoia is important to keep everything in check anyway.

PPS: Back to lurking.

Really? If satoshi came back today and asked you for a loan would you give him it?

why should he ask a loan?  This is insane...

Because he's trustworthy according to you, so why wouldn't you loan him it if he gave you a believable story? Maybe he doesn't have access to his coins anymore or is in legal trouble or in danger etc.

To me that would be an instant DISTRUST flag.  He had it all - what happened?  Need more information.  Maybe if I met him in person?

Goes without saying, if I ever ask for a loan, throw away all the trust you have for me, for something has happened that may make me less trustworthy.

Even if you have 120% stable altcoin collateral that you're willing to send to a third party trusted escrow?  Tongue

I know he's gone missing a few times only to return (much) later to release escrows.
I dont know if he ended up running away with any, but Id assume he didnt. At least not that I know off. Point remains though.

You're right. Even though I mention John K, his absence was a bit longer than it should have been. I guess I assumed it went without saying that I take Reagan's adage (itself a Russian proverb) to heart, "Trust, but verify."

I would definitely want John to prove to me he's the same John that I've done deals with in the past, therefore I'd ask him something only he knows regarding those details given his absence. Unsolicited transactions should especially follow "Trust, but verify."

Trustworthy doesn't mean : give him a loan.  I think satoshi is the most trustworthy user here in the forum , because without him bitcoin would never have existed.

Can I ask you : What is for you the most trustworthy user here in the forum ?

So he's the most trustworthy user, yet you wouldn't trust him? Your logic doesn't make sense. In what capacity do you trust him and why is he trustworthy? Satoshi is just a name; a name of someone who has been Mia for years. Satoshi could be one of many people so how do you know there isn't a trustworthy member among them?

I trust him , but  :

why should he ask a loan?  This is insane...

I told you this request is insane , you can trust a person without spend 1 cent Wink.

Ps: the thread question is : "Who are the most trustworthy Bitcointalk users?"

Trust him with what though? Thin air? In what capacity is the name satoshi trustable currently? It seems like you wouldn't trust him at all. And I'm aware of what the thread is called, but he's not really a bitcointalk user currently, so what would you trust him with? Money? Your identity? Your life? The only thing that would be insane here is trusting 'satoshi', but you haven't clarified in what capacity you would in fact trust him or why he is the most trustworthy here.

I've been a lurker for a long time now & FINALLY decided to sign up and I think I remember reading that John K was holding peoples money in escrow? Have I got the wrong guy?
