As a merchant, exchange volatility is OK for me as long as its an overall upward trend and the frequency is relatively short. Volatility through December is almost a certainty as all the shorts and longs prepare to do battle against the inflation rate halfing. An upward trend is my outlook because Bitcoin IS being used more and more people around the world are becoming aware of it and its potential.

Maybe it's the time to start a bitcoinica copy with 500:1 leverage.

21,000,000:1.  I should be able to buy all potential bitcoins with a single bitcoin deposit.

Including the ones that are lost?

Yep, even those ones.

But we are speculators, not merchants. We are bored and losing monies. Tongue

GLBSE is the place for excitement and profit now, isn't it? Maybe they'll even provide derivates of the securities they now offer. Hmmm, too bad I am busy with another business - you'd have Bitcoinica II soon, otherwise.

Don't worry. Stability means good for merchants. Therefore more merchants will come. Therefore Bitcoin will be used more. Therefore the Bitcoin price will rise.

Yay!

Isn't stability what we want for Bitcoin?

Now it's pretty easy to price things in BTC and the price won't change before a sale is completed.

It seems that's pretty good for merchants.

This is just great. We can now really conduct halfway serious business with Bitcoin. Even selling a luxury car and selling the proceeds is now possible without crashing the market. Next year I'll sell my first MiG for Bitcoin Wink

The key word being 'a' luxury car.

I have hopes that you'll be able to be turning MiG's over for Bitcoin next year.  I'm neither betting my life's saving on it nor am I ruling it out.

No doubt - there were times not long ago when a pizza for BTC 10,000 could crash the market. Last year this time the (reasonable) market depth was less than $10K. Now its at $100K, only counting the reasonable range. The Bitcoin price is now formed by people doing business with it. Next year, the market will require a depth in the millions at which point Bitcoin will be out of reach for simple pump and dump schemes for good.  Gamblers, go play Satoshi Dice.
