Well according to the advanced learners dictionary, it describes an educated person as someone who has a very high standard of learning, while the Oxford dictionary states  that an educated person is someone that have been to a school, be it primary, secondary or tertiary, we all know that education plays an important role in the forum, cause one ought to know how to read and write properly to be able to participate in the activities going on here.

However in my understanding asides from knowing how to read and write, which describes someone educated, i think an educated person can also be described as someone that can set defenses around themselves against the world, most of us here come from or lives in areas that's insecured. Therefore based on their intelligence they should be able to strategize how to protect themselves and keep themselves from getting into danger, an illiterate might be physically strong  but might lack the basic understanding of how to survive, but it takes someone educated to study their surroundings and figure out how to safeguard themselves from being harmed. The insecurity in our country is getting out of hand, and in this new year we all need to be very strategic on how to survive. Everyone needs to be on guard, cause that's part of what makes us educat

You were  correct to an extent but you started deviating when you said Oxford dictionary state that an educated person is someone that have been to school which is not 70% correct or true because not everyone that went to school is educated, most people went to school for fun, to catch Cruz, some went to school to study only their book while some went to study both their book, character and many more. So going to school or being educated is relative. I want you to also know that being educated is different from having wisdom because and understanding, you can be educated and yet don't have wisdom. Education only, can not help you defend yourself or prevent you from getting into danger but application of wisdom and understanding will help you more because wisdom and understanding are the principal thing needed in life to do anything. I have seen a situation where someone that called himself and educated person can not approach human and issues that an average person can. In summary being educated is not enough to safeguard, prevent or defend oneself from danger and to survive in this country you need wisdom and understanding.

Yes, I will also contribute this because you are right on your topic consigning the security in our country. What we need to seek for divine direction, and understanding to be able to overcome in security, because sometimes when we think that is by our knowledge, or being educated it may not the right thing, natural wisdom gives you the knowledge to protect yourself from danger. You may not learn this from school, but having a knowledge from your natural life will help you rotate yourself from danger and learn lot school can only teach you theories and other aspect of education, but a natural wisdom will help you to be smarter than problem coming to you.

Education has to do with exposure, you level of exposure is part of education, people define an educated person as some one who went to school but it is a no no definition for me, a knowledge acquired is what I call education, this is process by which individual learn and assimilate an idea that they do not possess earlier, school is one of the process of education but we shouldn't generals it to be the only description of an educated person, education is beyond the school itself, if you don't what I know that makes uneducated in that aspect until you are been taught in that regard.

Being educated is the measure of the information available to you at any given time, the more information you've, the more educated you're. Education is not limited to schooling alone, there are educated illiterates. According to Henry Ford, when he filed a lawsuit against the newspaper that called him an ignorant pacifist, An educated man is a man who has access to information whenever he choose to, either from your deposition, mastermind group, or from available resources. Being educated is about the quality and quantity of information you can lay your  hands on when the need arises without much limitation. The beauty of literacy is that You must not know everything to be described as educated, having access to qualitative information validates your literacy at all times.
Even in the case of insecurity, if you're well informed,  you can avoid certain behaviors that can put you in the ways of harm, avoid certain routes that are dead zones and play safe to be able to mark yourself safe from uncertainties befalling our dear country.
Exactly! Education is not just limited to academics. You know, we Nigerians make education all about academics and degrees. Sometimes, what makes me livid is the fact that a person that claims to have gone to school and acquired a degree displays poor attitude and talks to people anyhow, or even lacks common sense.

For me, educations comes in different form. The primary and most necessary one is that one is able to read and write after which the most important comes in and that is the ability to think and proper solution to problems.

An educated person is basically that individual that is able to able to make use of his thinking faculty to solve problem. Going to school doesn't necessarily makes one educated, you could be a certified engineer, medical personnel or what have you hand people can see you doing something and make statement like, "you sure this one go school at all?. Education increase your thought process and makes you see things in a vast and better perspective than an average graduate.

This depends on the personal definition of individual about education. Education may be about learning one or two things and it may be about morals or being initiative.
You may not go to school and still be educated. Going to school is just one way in which one can be educated. There are other means in which one can be educated, these include:
👉Apprenticeship
👉Self directed learning
👉Online courses
👉Mentorship
Not everyone that go to school is educated and not going to school doesn't make you a non- educated fellow.

I believe the word you should be using is actually wisdom, because, no offense but, there is barely any relationship between education and safety from insecurities. Yes, I understand that an educated person can decide that he'd go here and he won't go there, cause of the pros and cons of those environment but that isn't education, that's wisdom. You see, one is theory and the other is method, application practice. It's just like how Education is knowing that tomatoes are fruits but wisdom entails not adding tomatoes to a fruit salad or a fruit juice. Education is usually associated with gaining knowledge for professional reasons. Yes, education increases the likeliness for a person to make the right decision and for people to diversity their knowledge, however, it isn't enough. Wisdom is what protects a man, cause it comes with good insight, critical thinking, moral reasoning, basically common sense. A lot of wise people aren't even educated.

Another thing you should consider is income. Even proverbs would tell you that a wise man who used his wisdom to save the nation would be forgotten if he didn't have wealth. Really without money, both the educated and non-educated would find it difficult to run from insecurities.
So, in conclusion, I'm not trying to say that you are wrong or anything, but it requires much more than education to be saved from insecurities.

With all due respect at OP, security is paramount which is everyone's responsibilities. Keeping safe has nothing to do with with education rather education in security terms is essential at most when tackling an insecurity. I don't even find this as being educated but having the strategical logical security structures to either prevent or fights against the insecurities.
There are still intelligent illiterates whom are more security conciously intellectual depending on individuals.
Reading and writing is not an utmost measure of securities but the individual endivoirs of awareness to perceive dangers, insight dangers and senses dangers in cordially to intellectually do away with the disasterous situations.

To me an educated person is someone who can read and write.Cause it is believed in Naija that for the fact that a person didn't attend the higher institution makes the person uneducated.Yeah it's correct, but there are reasons why the person didn't further his/her education it could be financial instability. Some people finished their education in secondary school(SSCE).For the fact that they can read and write means they are educated but didn't attain the higher institution certificate.Cause an uneducated person is called an illiterate and he/she can't defend their selves in public. For example an uneducated person is asked to fill a form of which he/she can't cause they can't read and write.Concerning the insecurity you said it's really affecting the uneducated people, there was a story I heard.A young man that could not read and write was walking by and saw a sign board that was written on it 'BEWARE OF DOGS', cause he was unable to read what was written on the sign board,he got to his destination when he got there he saw the dogs and was beaten by the dogs.So globally we are in the world that informations are passed on the internet and it takes a person who can read or write to understand informations on the internet.

The definition of an educated person can vary depending on who you ask, but generally, an educated person is someone who has gained knowledge and skills through schooling, training, or self-study. They may have a high level of formal education, such as a college degree, but they may also have extensive experience and expertise in a particular field. They should be able to think critically, solve problems, and communicate effectively. An educated person should also be open-minded and curious, always seeking to expand their knowledge and understanding of the world around them. Ultimately, education is about more than just grades or test scores - it's about developing the skills...

and knowledge needed to lead a successful and fulfilling life. There are also different types of education, such as traditional classroom-based learning, vocational training, and informal learning through experiences and interactions with others. An educated person may have had a combination of these types of education, and may continue to learn throughout their life. Additionally, education doesn't just happen in schools or universities - it can also take place in the workplace, in the home, and in the community. In other words, an educated person may have learned a lot of things from different sources and in different environments. The most important thing is that they have taken the time to gain their knowledge...

School is not only the criteria that someone has to fulfil to be termed educated. The correct identity of an educated person is someone who knows how to read, write and then seek out information for yourself. Not everyone who has been in school is educated, some just passed through school and are still not educated. Education brings a civilised mindset, and the behaviour of an educated person and an uneducated person is very different from each other.

I have heard the term "educated Illiterate" before used in the description of some people, it is because these people went to school but are not behaving educated.
Very correct, it is not everyone that went to school are educated,  some people just pass through school and you cant see any content of education through them. Some people they became educated through self education,  by learning by themselves or getting a private teacher who lecture them on how to read and write. It doesn't mean being educated one must pass through school,  being educated means exposure and to be able to express one's self in speaking and reading.

Firstly, there is a misconception about education. People seem to take education to mean having a total number of degrees or certificates from a school or institution, whereas education is not the western way of learning. People seem to have accorded education to be the western way of learning; sitting in a room called class for several years and having attended some questions in tests and exams means you're educated.

Education, in its original meaning, is to bring out or rear up. Education is divided into classifications, levels, etc. In the classification of education, we have formal, informal, and non-formal education, which means what is regarded as education is just a part of education. Those from the streets are educated people too, but just an informed education because they were not taught in a formal building called school, but they have a special education from experience gathered every day.

An educated person is someone who has been brought out of ignorance or has been reared up to knowledge on one thing or another. The more information you're exposed to, the higher your education, so an educated person isn't ignorant of one thing.

Op this your topic wide o but if we start to go deeper e go hard us because education as you talk don pass to go school if i go remember correctly e get people wey no step their legs for school for any day but they can read and write correctly without any mistake, wetin i go classify this security of a thing be say e get some people wey no go school but get wisdom to handle things and any other mata wey come their side.

Also e get some people wey go school but dem no get wisdom to handle mata wey surround them all together, wetin i mean be say security no dey for school or school as man of wisdom you supposed sabi wetin go kill you and wetin wey no go kill you easily, and if you sometin wey go kill person and dem avoid am no mean say they person na graduate or e get all forms of degree.

Even some company's dey teach their workers about safety for their work place and even as those people dey work there no be every body wey go school, e get some drivers wey no go school but dem dey involved themselves with security and safety class for them work place there. Even person wey no dey talk knows about safety who teach ?

Because him sabi say life no get two and if pesin kpai today u no go see am again, wetin just dia be say we dey lose guard too much and if you no lose guard notin fit do you just as we dey drive for road. pesin no fit talk wen accident go happen why becus you no go fit predict when man go die or go enter danger, so the koko be say make we just dey extremely careful as we dey enjoy our new year or even as we dey travel go our various home for new year celebration.

Before I will give the concept nof an educated person let me first of all distinguish between two concepts of education which everyone acquired one of them to survive in their life. And they are formal and informal education. So if you want to know who is an educated you have to know the person from any of the above. In this days the formal educational system is very bad that they take or learn skills from none formal educational scholars or personels. Mostly from the science  perspective. Therefore if you ask me that question I would say that an educated person is the one who has known what he is saying and doing and it is not specifically the person that has finished school.

In Nigeria those who have acquired informal education are more effective than formal. There is no job for the university Graduates.

I've believed for a while now that education is crucial for learning how to read and write as well as for having in-depth knowledge in any field one may choose. However, times have changed; although you should be able to find employment after completing your education and earning a certification, it is now extremely difficult to do so in our nation. As we all know, unemployment is a problem, and it's ironic that those who lack education are the ones who end up employing themselves. And the ironic thing is that those without formal education used to be the ones hiring those with formal education for life's ironing. the best advice is to properly utilize their self it is harder to feed and that is one of the things that are making crime increase because they feel there is no other way than to commit crime and make money since the government is failing in that aspect. and the number of graduates out there is much and I don't think there will be space for everybody that is the annoying thing.

An educated person is a person that possess the characteristics of readability, wisdom in application and also versatile to learning new things and adapt to any new environment without the mindset of formal educational qualifications.

Sometimes people feel that when they call you an dedicated person, that they are talking about your certificate. But education is more than certificate. So many people have certificate but don't have wisdom and knowledge or understanding to handle crucial issue in a matured way, rather speaking grammar over an issue that just need a wisdom applied. Our people say to know book and to get wisdom na two different thing. But an educated person must have the two to be complete otherwise you are just like an empty vessel.

Sometimes on the high way you'll see two rich men, they will cause hold up all because of small minor misconception of who to first move for the other to pass. Just a simple mathematics to solve and the road will clear they will keep on speaking grammar. Like do you know who I am? do you know my educational qualifications? Do you also know that I did myaster at UK? and so on. There is no wisdom speaking in such a person rather stupidity. So its good we know when we are mixing pride with education. Because your pride might make you look like an illiterate in the public.

being educated also entails as an individual certain level of exposeure and how effective one can function in the society based on actions and reactions and how you respond to the environment.
