Just a couple of weeks ago bitcoin was blasting over $1000, so I am wondering if anyone made big money by selling their BTC? Now it has came down to $830, even if last week it was close to $900, so I am not seeing getting back to $1000 anytime soon. Any profits or regrets here?  Roll Eyes

Some high leverage bears had to have made a killing shorting this garbage. Good luck to you all. We will learn eventually.

when they they sell their bitcoin when the price is still $ 1100, I think there will be no regret for that decision. even, unconsciously, they have produced a lot of money when the price of bitcoin down. may regret only at the people holding the bitcoin her at the time to wait for a higher price.

Any profits or regrets here?

Regrets? My only regret is having missed being an early adopter. The price was already in double digits when I learned of Bitcoin, so I missed the kind of profits made by people who bought thousands of bitcoins at pennies per coin and held tight.

At least I had enough sense not to sell any coins when the price skyrocketed up to over $200, back down to $50, up to over $1200, back to $200, and then up to $1500 (all prices in CAD). In fact not only did I refuse to wimp out and sell, I bought more at every bottom.

Profits? I'll worry about that when the time comes that I have to spend some of my coins. Hopefully that's years away.

I would like to know who was it that shorted this from over 1100. It was looking so bad for shorters - you'd have to have balls of steel to hold it through the pain.

Balls of steel are needed for any risky business. Trading is not an easy thing to do, almost every action they take is a big risk. This situation now shows how tricky can be trading with bitcoins.
I sold some bitcoins but just cause I needed money, and cashing out is always good profit for me, and I think about like extra earning.

I have some pretty cheap coins lying around and there were many chances for me to dump my position from 1000$+ and yet i didn't. Because i thought i will rise even further(1500+). When i realized that it won't happen, it was already too late. I am not completely sad though. What if it kept rising after i sold my coins? Getting trapped in a bulltrap is far more painful than holding your position.

I quickly convert my btc into cash. So i can say i got little from that. Im just a bit frustrated bout the price. I thought we are going to break the all time high that time. But it didn't. Im still positive tho. I'll just wait till it pump again. I guess this may take a long  time till we are back again to $1000.

why would you want to know, and those who have made big profit are never going to announce it here!
surely there have been many who sold and bought and made profit and loss. that is how any market works. some experienced traders are always silently making their money while the rest of us talking here to ourselves Cheesy

Nope. It was blatantly too fast a rise to hold but I couldn't be arsed to crack open my cold storage. And paying the capital gains would've wiped out most of the benefit of buying back lower. I could of course have sold and bought back on BTC-e but they make me feel funny in my tummy.

No. I wish I had trading skills but I don't so I just hold. Right now seems like a good moment to make small shorts tho

It's even worse. I have Bitcoin and some altcoins, if I would have been a (good) trader and would have had the guts for it, I could have sold all and bought back now, it would have been some 2 BTC easy profit.
But since I didn't have the time to follow the trend closely to take the best profit, I missed the moment. I didn't sell, I didn't buy.
Not a problem anyway, since I expect them to grow again even higher. When my target is reached, then I will sell, but it's quite a long ride until then.

We always regret on the things that might in our hands now but because we ignore it, it just disappeared like a snap of a hand.
Anyway, congratulations for those who gain much last price increase and start over for those just like me ignored buying bitcoin at its lower price.
It is never too late guys! We still have ample time.

I sold all my bitcoins at $860 and after one week the price was $1133.
More regrets than profits for me. Sad
Only the big whales can make big money.Do we know any major bitcoin players who are Bitcointalk members?

We have a lot here. Those that are pretty silent are the ones who've got most. Don't worry, it's gonna have a lot more spikes like that in the future, plenty of opportunities to come still.

i made some decent profits, but all the profits that i cashed out above $1000 have been invested by buying back just below current levels. my benefit is that i have around 20% more coins than before the peak to over $1000 that we have seen. that's my main target > increasing the number of coins that i have.

I would see big money as in the thousands and in order to be making that on these spikes you would need a few coins, I am just waiting for it to go up again and next time we might see it closer to the $2k mark.

Op, If you think that $300 profit from 1 BTC is a big money then fine. But I think BTC has so much potential that selling it now is a waste.
I expect price of BTC to be a lot higher than $1100 in near future so I am not bothered with ~$300 price spikes.

But if you look at it, if you sold your bitcoins at 1100 and bought back at 790, you have more bitcoins now. You will have more profit when bitcoin goes to the moon. People like me who do not have a lot of bitcoins yet can take advantage of those volatility to gain more bitcoins in the process. But those who get in early have no problem in the price surges and are just holding and waiting for the price to go to the moon.
