In fact, this so-called "liberal democracy" model usually has nothing to do with democracy.

In the democracy we have the people's will as a source of the political power. But here (i.e. in the liberal-democratic model) money replaces the people's will after a critical point of development, becoming a source of real political power. Liberal society could employ a democratic regime at some stage, but such condition is unsustainable. Plutocratic regime is a common result of the wealth distribution in the liberal society. If you have a good propaganda machine then plutocracy is a far more sustainable condition of the liberal society, because a large part of electorate is unable to understand the real order of things, and unwittingly supports the plutocratic regime.

Russia limits free speech with ambiguous language and unchecked decentralization of power. Ambiguous legislation such as the Law on Extremism allows local authorities to extend powers based upon personal or local whims, largely with the intention and consequences of marginalizing minority groups.

I think Russia does not have as developed PR system as US does.
Russia does have a PR machine. It is the state run media.
Sorry to disappoint you but we have virtually no state-run media.  Roll Eyes The most of russian media are private held companies and autonomous organizations. Notorious exception is the "1st Channel", which is declared as a private held company too but 51% of shares are owned by state.

Actually I miss some really state controlled TV channels, because the modern private held mass media are filled by commercials, shitty TV shows and other useless crap. Even the "1st Channel" is filled by the stupid commercials about everything. That's the reason why I don't have TV anymore.

but the problem is that russia is an oligarchy, and rich people are bound to have ties to the state. it's similar to here in the U.S.

who doesn't think roger ailes, rupert murdoch, shelden adelson, george soros, et. al don't have direct connections with our politicians?

i do think american politics runs under more of a guise of "free speech and democracy," while still being state-influenced.. at least compared to other countries.

Because ~80% of topic readers added him to ignore lists. I suppose that new shitposting account has been created.

I see no fresh shit from the same source.

Tell me one media that openly oppose Putin
No problem:

http://www.echo.msk.ru/

They're available online or at 91.2 FM.
Is that "anti-Putin" or "anti-Russian"?

They're opposing Putin constantly online and at 91.2 FM.

private media still have no power to oppose a powerful leader like Putin.
I've always had a respect for the people with well-developed imagination. But money could help you to oppose anybody, even if it's a god himself.  Smiley

True but the Americans have had that since they took it from the Germans in WWII so it's not really a difference in terms of propaganda and media controls.
