I cpu mine with an old gaming rig i have. I get 56khs per core, and I have 4 cores. It's not to bad. I mine darkcoin. X11 seems to be the only thing worth mining. ASICS are taking over everything else.

Hi, so do you think that this server might pay itself off anytime then?

I mean, does mining darkcoin pay for the power bill at least?

How came people are still mining with CPU. Heck, I wonder why they still are mining with GPU even. If you consider ASIC market right now even a low end cheap ASIC will be a lot, and I mean A LOT of faster than any normal GPU, CPU mining. I don't include situations where you have unlimited resources and  power of course. But if you want to be mining hipster you can still mine with CPU Wink

Well some people have access to idled extra rows of cabinets old servers in a noc, free power and hardware equals time to get creative with mining low diff alt coins.

You bumped a thread that was over 7 months old, which in crypto terms is almost 3 decades old.  CPU mining more or less ended when XPM has GPUs take over the hash.  I mined XPM on CPUs until Feb, after that it became pointless.

Your 128 core server can't compete with GPUs.  Look at the alt mining subforum and you will find Claymore's GPU miner for XPM.  CPU mining would not even cover power costs (also XPM is tanking in price).

:-) .. thanks for the quick answer .. so basically, CPU mining is finished then.. forget the whole idea ?

What a shame if thats the case, all those cheap 128 core servers going to waste. lol

Hey guys .. nice forum post, looks like there right place to post.

Anyway .. lets say you can get a server with 128 cores .. and you mine primecoin at current rates, what would be a good average earnings per day?

Or something like 8 x 8core server. 64 cores.
http://www.ricardo.ch/kaufen/computer-und-netzwerk/server-und-zubehoer/sonstige-server/gateway-8x-8core-2-00ghz-128gb-2tb/v/an740571332/

Its only like 700 swiss francs .. thats around $500 USD i think .. will the machine pay for it self anytime soon ?? :-)

Would it be enough to cover energy cost?

It's hard coz I can't seem to find good cpu mining calculators.

I like the idea of primecoin or CPU coins, but is idea just going to cost me money?

Thanks guys

I mining PrimeCoin only if I work on my computer, so I expect it is free because my computer would be on anyway

Its still not free cause you consume way more electricity when your cpu usage is 100%...

CPU mining is still very profitable even though you don't have free energy... you just need to choose the right coin....
So, which one is the right coin?  Huh

Primecoin

people with free electricity

They don't exists ! Perhaps it is more appropriate to say: people who steal electricity
Why to assume such a risk ? Better buy BTC/LTC, wait for a good price, then trade for a nice profit!
It is more safe too!

My electricity bill is a fixed amount per month, so whether I mine or not the costs will be the same.
It's not free electricity but it's not a theft either.

Where do you stay?

Some people live in hotels/motels for extended periods of time. In this case, electricity is included and can be considered a fixed cost.
