It is profitable, but only if you know what you do and with low electricity costs.

It was, now it is borderline.  I am finding Quarkcoins profitable.
Look for the $100 amazon deal in the alts forum and anything will be profitable until your $100 credit is used up!

I only got 0.01 pts after mining for a day

Actually CPU mining is the most profitable out of all 3 category. ASIC, GPU, CPU.... of course you need to know what you should do with the CPU mining and not just mine BTC directly...

Huh?

I'm currently mining Protoshares on CPU. It's quite profitable actually.

I too am mining Protoshares with my CPU and have made decent profit. I have been mining since day one though when the difficulty was really low.
I was mining on day one and all I got was a bunch of stales and orphans... but even if those had gone through..

Where are you selling these for a decent amount?  Is the price higher than the 2000PTS  @0.0013BTC   I quoted before?   If not, I think quarkcoins are even worth more than that..

I use 7 of the 8 cores of my AMD FX-8320 (overclocked the turboboost to 4.11Ghz) to mine for primecoins since my protoshares client can't find any peers to download the blockchain...

i can assist with that

use addnode=5.9.24.81

oh, it took me about 15 minutes to fix

had to download some new version

Big question for me: will the GPU miners make a comeback at $1000 with 600 million difficulty?

According to this thread they're back in the game above $1000. For about 10 days  Cheesy

Still, makes me think. If the price rise can keep driving the profitability of GPU's back above water, there are alot of GPU's out there... and a vastly more aware/informed public re:Bitcoin price direction and US congressional hearing etc etc. Hmmmmm..........

Where to exchange ProtoShare to USD?

after a quick search of their forums

Want To Buy  PTS 2000PTS  @0.0013BTC

this was posted today & closed, so apparently got filled.  according to the post, at that time it was equivalent to $9 (i guess more now since bitcoin price is up)...  so maybe 1/2 a cent?

i think that's probably less than the $1.50 I can get from other place

i recall having all my servers running protoshare mining on that first day and got 2 orphans and 5 stales... which would have been...  350 protoshares..  this in about two hours.  i imagine the block difficulty is a lot higher now, probably don't get all the orphans and stales anymore either, but, still..  i fail to see how that's profitable if you pay for electricity

What are you mining though?

You can find answers all over the forum, Protoshare is one of the best CPU coins right now....
