In this forum and other forums where gambling is one of the topics of discussion, one of the recurrent topics is people who write about how their gambling addiction has ruined their lives. We usually encounter topics like "Gambling ruined my life,"  "I lost all my life savings to gambling,"  "I gambled away my entire salary," etc. Then they go on to tell a sad tale. It makes me wonder: why do gamblers tend to wait until they have suffered a catastrophic loss or a string of losses before quitting or seeking help?
Regret and realization do always comes at the end and if people would really be still have that kind of urge on playing gambling because they are really that greedy when it comes to their motives in mind.

They would only completely stop when they are really just that suffering unfortunate happenings or events which i could say that it isnt really that something not new anymore.

Each of us does have their own will when it comes on doing up something and we arent that dumb not to know on what are the possible situations might faced up again.
It is really just that there are people who do really ignore about the risks and continue until they do mess up everything.

That's just addiction, if you are addicted even if you are losing money you wont really care, you will rather be motivated but when you lose huge amount of money and you don't have anything left that's when you will start regretting and that those not stop some of them from going back to gambling when they are balance again. If you are addicted to gambling it will be very difficult to stop gambling even if you are losing till you wasted everything you are having before you will come back to your right senses and you will start regretting.

They experienced fun without being able to handle the risk. They have just noticed it when they are already noticed their huge losses.
We all know that when we are having fun, we tend to forget the mistakes that we are making but not all gamblers are doing the same thing because there are also lots of gamblers who are responsible for their actions.
Posts about gambling addiction also serve as a warning, especially to those who are just starting their gambling journey.
All gamblers know the risks of gambling but it is not easy to overcome them when someone loses self-control of risk, this factor is very influential when someone recovers losses in gambling and they have bet above the minimum limit allocated for gambling funds.

I have reviewed many of the same threads about overcoming gambling addiction, although many of the same complaints but it's okay to provide useful tips for overcoming gambling addiction, the main tip is to limit gambling funds and gamble only for entertainment.

As we put it, people will only change their path when they suffer a terrible loss which can alter their lives.
Such as losing their family owed to their gambling habits, losing a trusted friend because of bad debt and others.
They will come to their senses when something that they loved most are starting to get away from their life because of their gambling losses.
Or in some cases, if they are soon to become homeless because of bad debts due to gambling.
We can't force a gambler to change, because it is the gambler himself who can truly make a change in his route.

That’s just how people work… They do something so dumb, like gamble away their savings and have nothing to show for it but a sad story. So they use what they got in exchange for their savings, a story, to tell others. Maybe a part of them think someone will take pity on them and give them some money, or maybe they think the tale of their gambling risks will earn them respect. Who knows…

It is only considered catastrophic because the losses has exceeded normal, if not why would gamblers consider gambling as a vice when they use their monies and make their presence available at the gambling centre or online. Some even share how much pleasure they derive from gambling.
Why they cry out is because they have gone beyond what they expected and the discipline of control has suffered loss of reasoning.

We all know what kind of damage gambling addictions can do, especially to some certain groups of people who are predisposed to addiction. But this is a problem which goes beyond gambling. The question should be how do we stop those certain frail groups from participating in something that will be bad for them? I do not think we should. Every adult should make their own choices and not be baby-sitted by someone else.

Sometimes those people need a firm life-lesson which they will never forget. It usually helps them out of their addiction. Money is just money. And the money they lost could be seen as an educational fee.

That being said, most gamblers do not have a gambling problem.

To some people gambling is a social activity but to me I see gamble as a serious Business that doesn't have a definite direction, when I started gambling I saw it as a means to make quick money but later I realize that the loss incurred is more than the profit made, for instance is you play sporting bet you will understand that some season you wont even win a game throughout the season after investing much, note if we must win they game should be singled, somany person play morethan 10 games in a slip and that's where greed comes to play this in turn leads to more loss.
There is still some misconception about gambling and investing. Some gamblers tend to say that they're investing through their bets but the fact is that they've just made a bet and not an actual investment.

It's true that when someone is being hit by greediness, there won't be a way to stop that gambler until he's got left with nothing.

Everyone did experienced that moment when we feel the greatest and we want to have some more despite we have made some decent gains already and then, the unexpected comes next.

They are only complaining because they have accumulated so many loses, if you are a cronic Gambler, there's is this feeling you have that if you continue trying (gambling) and you don't quit, that you are going to win big someday, and due to this process you will be losing money and other resources, hardly you see a Gambler that makes more profits than loses, it would always be otherwise.

It has happened to me severally, I play bet9ja, and the level of loses I do have, most times make me shade tears, any day I don't book a bet, it's as if it's that day I will win big, and even when I run around to book the games, I will still incure loses, so I just decided to stop...

Though I'm still playing bets but not as before

To be honest, I don't have a definite answer to this question. however, according to my experience and based on my point of view. there are many factors that make them lose control over themselves to the point of experiencing financial losses, whether all their savings, risking their entire salary, even the worst is gamblers who lose property.

Basically, every gambler has different cases, there are even many gamblers who don't realize that they are addicted. the fact is, we can't judge someone based on what they tell, whether what triggers them to sink into their addiction. but certainly, based on cases and referring to the experience that I experienced. Addictive gamblers, especially compulsive ones, lack better self-awareness and understanding. usually, their mindset, gambling to chase high wins, they often ignore every risk they will face. which in the end they are trapped, lose their possessions, and end up becoming addicts. but by the way, this is just my personal view.

I think its mainly about gambler mindset. Besides earning or losing money, gambling is a game some players win or lose. Gamblers think there will be time that they will win and get back everything. This false reality can be really damaging in my opinion.
Those who play gambling are called gamblers but not all gamblers are like that (the one that is mentioned by the OP) but there are still gamblers who only stick on their limits. Gambling is a form of game to give people an entertainment and maybe some profits if we are lucky but we shouldn't focus on it so that we won't feel that we are a loser whenever we used up all of our deposits. It's true, there are times that we are lucky but it doesn't guarantee that you can recover all your past losses. Much better if you don't dream of that because that was hard to do and it will only lead you for more losses.

Some gamblers don't realize they are losing their life savings anytime they keep playing and losing.
You won't notice it at first but the more you play and lose, the more it will be obvious. It will also be hard to notice if you don't check the balance of your savings account

they forget the main purpose why they gamble. If gambling is only for entertainment then no one will become an addict, if gambling is used for profit, then he will stop when he gets a lot of profit. But they forget how to stop at the right time, keep pushing to play and hope to keep winning. this will backfire and cause a lot of losses, so you want to keep going and keep playing until there's nothing left. A series of losses that occur doesn't even deter them, and they keep looking for money to be able to play, this is not good and they will become heavy addicts. There needs to be control and a reminder that profit will not be obtained when greed continues.

It makes me wonder: why do gamblers tend to wait until they have suffered a catastrophic loss or a string of losses before quitting or seeking help?

I think some gamblers may be in denial about their addiction. They might believe that they can control their gambling and that they will eventually win back what they have lost, which can keep them from quitting or seeking help. Some of them probably believe that their luck will change or that they will hit the jackpot ato one point. Compulsive gamblers may also be embarrassed to admit that they have a problem. They might feel like it’s a character flaw or failure, which can prevent them from seeking help. In my opinion, gambling is not an easy addiction to overcome.

The losses serve as a reminder that brings them back to reality that they need to stop this habit. Why many of them go ahead to create sad topics that tell their pains and losses from gambling is because they just need to vent out their frustration which they do here. It is possible that because some of these person's gamble online from home and made losses, coming online to talk about it is a way for them to ease their pain. Other's who like to be sympathized with, share their story to attract sympathy.

Why would anyone care to post if they are winning. It's only when they have lost it they tend to share their story.
They know there's nothing they can do about it and sharing things lessens the burden and gets sympathy from others.
Also, it gives them a hope that someone might have the solution to their problem. This is why many share their story only when have lost it all.

Because they have to lose everything first before they realize they have lost it all, if an addicted gambler still has some money left after a big loss, they won't feel satisfied, they will still believe in a hope that only exists in dreams.

Addicted gamblers don't feel sorry for themselves until they lose the entire money that has with them, let my make another money even after they feel sorry and pitied for all they've done, they will still gamble and keep the stupid lottery ticket idea alive, this us why its very hard to stop a gambling addiction.

Well in gambling, regrets are usually in the end. So when everything is working ok and you are winning in the beginning, you might not think of quitting to be honest. And so you go on, whether noticing that you are being eaten alive by this casinos as you continue to deposit and lost big money and then the big excuse, "gambling ruined my life" scenario in the end. Wherein you could have prevent it if you have total control of your self, but you chooses not to because it's enjoyable in the beginning.

You're being right because many gamblers have experienced these things a long and bad way, I believe most of them later Learnt the lesson of their life from their first mistake in gambling citing different experience that led them to it, the mistake most newbies in gambling commonly do is that they were always easily enticed to lust after money in a hasty decision making only because they got a clue on what they have no idea about a d dabble into it.
