If it is a huge OP and more than 1 person keeps quoting it it can become quite tedious having to scroll through it to get to the comment, you can simply quote the part you are responding to.

As far as I know signature campaigns do not count the words within a quote otherwise we would be seeing a lot more people doing it for that reason.

You know what grinds my gears?

When someone quotes a huge OP. Or any OP for that matter. There is no need for it.
Maybe someone can help me understand? As far as I know, its a waste of space.

to male their posts seem more long and constructive

I guess to reply to the OP. I don't like it when people quote really long posts either, i usually just quote the part I'm replying to and not the whole post.

So i try to quote just the part I want to reply at.

In most cases you see it is more appealing to read it.

Original Poster.

I rarely quote a whole post, just one section that I feel like responding to and it does focus the discussion. It's the quotes with humongous images that get most on my nerves.

Also makes it easier to reply in thick threads with multiple pages. Memory is a bit short.

when the thread got so much pages already..
i think more easy to reply what about OP said when we have qoute OP first..
and when we read reply with qoute, its will show us the relevant topic directly (without read any qoute before)

I quote op in long posts when it looks like replies have gone off topic or I do not want the person above thinking I am talking to them

I think they wanted to increase their words count because of signature campaign and I think this should move to Meta.
It's so confusing. What is this all about? You mean the that they increase their words ?

they do it to make the post looks longer and more constructive, of course

if you quote someone it looks like you are contributing to the community by answering or commenting what others say, too

May times it is done so the OP can't be changed without notice. Useful in the Selling and Loan sections or where someone is spreading BS and forget what they have posted.
So, yes, there is a need for it and you are not paying for any wasted space.
You can a long post if you feel the need to save on your word count bill.  Grin

Why do people make stupid unfunny troll posts like this:

For those of you that don't know what a swatting is,
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=swatting

Basically, I am ripped. Yup. I make GAINZ bro. I am the type of guy that will steal your girlfriend, just by looking at her.
She'll come to me. You might to hours of work to get in her pants. Me? Nah bro. I just flash my biceps and she'll be all over me.

I am probably the only ripped bitcoiner HAHA.

Anyways, the SWAT team broke through my back door (glass), I looked over, thought it was a burglar, and tackled the guy.
Flat out tackled. Like I said, I am ripped with gainz, so i took this scrawny cop down NO ISSUE.

They threatened to taze me, so i let up on the guy. They searched my house and found nothing except for my gym gear. What a bunch of losers!
Also, my family has connections to the FBI, so we found the guy that SWATted me, and he was arrested. He was nothing but a scrawny loser HAHAHAHAH. He was jealous of my gainz most likely.

Be careful putting your info online!

? It is kinda pointless quoting the entire op most times though, but sometimes it's necessary but better to directly address certain points rather than the entire lot.

Sometimes, OPs are edited.
If you quote the OP, your reply doesn't look meaningless.

There is nothing wrong with that if a person uses the right formatting. What bugs me is when people quote 5-10 quoted posts. It just looks ridiculous and takes too much space.
When replying to certain parts I just use '-snip-'  which signals that I've removed parts of the post. I quote often but I try my best to make it look decent.
