We need them for more money, and they need us so they can steal from us.
We need politicians for us to have a leader to lead our society, to make law and implement it. But sad to say the politicians that must implement the law, help our country to be better are the one who make it harder for us
The whole idea in the founding of America and its government was in two basic parts:
1. That the people be free to do anything as long as they didn't hurt other people;
2. A government to protect people from invaders, and to organize jury protection when somebody claimed he was hurt by another person.
That was it. All the laws and government were set up for these two things only.
Sadly, today we see government being used by government officials to plunder the people, and to get the nation into all kinds of messes that were not intended.
How can we protect ourselves from government officials? Use the jury properly, same as it always was.
The following short video doesn't use a jury, but it shows you what can be done even without a jury... if you do it right.

We need politicians just to discuss ideas. But that is all we need them for. We need all the people to decide which ideas are right, without the politicians having any control at all.
Make the politicians into an organized forum like Bitcointalk... but more organized. Then, let the people decide among themselves what to do, and which politicians are right in what they are saying. Let the people govern themselves, without the politicians governing them.

because humans are social animals and we need a hierarchy (it means strong,smart will rule) but in these days politicians doesnt have good traits instead of that they are just manipulating people.
We need politicians in many aspects of our country. They are the one who in charge in our law and make everything happens especially for the poor.
It helps to develop the concern of the society and can offer a good solution to the problem of the community.
For me, we don't need them and theere are so many positions to be occupied by the came corrupt politicians. We need more volunteers that do really care about the state of the country that are not paid by taxes but by donations.
Well, i somehow agree with you yet that is really hard realize today. Politicians have played big parts in decline of governments. Greedy, selfish people who have their own personal interests in everything they do. Its an age old system that i agree, needs to change

I think we need politicians because we are to rich to share it with corrupt politicians. Im tire of them. The term itself made me hate them.
Not to say that politicians are good. But in reality the vast majority of people are not going to be informed on any subject, have bias, etc, etc, in a much worse level than a politician. They are also easily manipulated. Since some people are going to be in power, they will manipulate people to vote for things that will make it better for themselves.
We do not, like many things in the world are the way they are because of inertia, things have been like that for so long that people are unable to see that it is no longer necessary, politicians are only there because people have not realized we do not need them anymore.
It's a long discussion. If you have ever tried to organize something with people, you understant immediatly the need of leadership, even in a small group.
Of course, when dimensions are big as in a state or a corporation, it's very easy to lose the focus and a lot of people are just there only to profit of the situation.

The trouble with direct democracy, that is a system predicated on people's referendums and other direct means of political decision-making, is that it is too volatile and does not take into account the power of hype and short-term marketing strategies. These always favour populism, and decomcracy has developed methods to prevent such extreme swings in political sentiment, for instance through the retention of the Parliament and Senate bodies. Representative democracy may be sluggish in taking decisions, but that is its fundamental positive - it is more resistant to erratic behaviour.
I think we need politicians because they're presented for us to choose the right way to deal with other countries.
We need politicians because we as citizens cant do everything...and certain matters wouldnt be handled correctly, probably never a majority of citizens would vote for higher taxes if they are needed..
You are absolutely right. We will not be able to solve so many issues that they solve. Politics itself is not a simple thing, which requires a lot of knowledge and time. That's why we need politicians. We need politician to lead the members of society and to make laws that will implement peace and order. But most of then using their position for their personal gain and the people voted get left behind.
Ideally speaking, politicians are there as representatives of their constituents in whatever area they hail from. It should be a sort of public service because they should be thinking when they make laws or regulations to safeguard and help the people have a better life. However, like most of the replies state, it is unfortunate that many politicians only run for office for themselves and not for the welfare of the people. The government is the biggest business entity in every country, thus many are blinded to try to take advantage of that.
No matter how politicians do not improve our lives, there is nowhere to go without them. After all, we all need at least some kind of leader, to avoid the huge chaos
Politicians are servants of society, hired workers who represent people's interests when considering the laws of society. They are necessary for us because we simply do not have time to deal with all these issues.
The reason we have politicians is so that we have officials that can uphold the written law. Like American written law is unique because it leaves areas where laws can be open for the people to decide. If the people do have an idea, but it violates the guidelines set by our written law (the Constitution) then the politicians can vote it down. Politicians have another huge role which is to keep other politicians and the other branches in check.
