no idea about twitter but there were a lot of news online about facebook developing a blockchain team. also, facebook authority just blocked ico related ads and lifted after a few months, as far I recall.

It is for everybody's safety. Facebook and Twitter thinks that it might be a scam or transaction into illegal things. If the government proves that a scam and illegal transactions have been made through facebook or twitter, it might be the end of their credibility because their site's been used to do such crime.

When you say that Steemit is a success in social media, I would have to respond that it's really not compared to Facebook and Twitter.
I say that as an avid Steemit user btw, so I very much have a bias in favor of Steemit.

We just have to be realistic here, user retention on Steemit is just abysmal. I think they only retain like 5% of new members, maybe even less than that.
It currently can't even be compared to Facebook or Twitter, since it's completely different.

Steemit is more like Medium currently, you actually need to write full articles if you want to make any sort of income.

Why would these social media giants use blockchain when they're raking in massive amounts of profits as it stands now?

Steemit is like of a success in media, I think.

Steemit is one of the early adoptors because the founder believe in the power of crypto currency but Im not telling that FB, Twiiter etc. doesnt believe in it they are just waiting for the right time to introduce their own crypto currency they already build a huge community and they are just waiting for mass adoption on most of the people on social media.

I do not know why they do not participate in the electronic market like steemit. In my opinion the founders want to protect their reputation as well as the facebook and twitter platforms they do not want to suffer from this market.

The facebook and the twitter have their own systems so why would they use the blockchain system? I believe tha they are watching the blockchain and cryptocurrency market closely and they would act if the right time comes. Also i am very curious that if they run a coin for themselves..

Remove your mindset of that every single thing should have it's own blockchain. Blockchain is very unnecessary in most platforms, hence why we see a lot of useless coins and tokens.

You are right that there are lots meaningless coins and tokens, they do not even solve real problem, and some existing products are much better than them.

As far as I know, Facebook Has a New Director of Engineering for Blockchain. So probably, the company is gearing towards blockchain, but its all speculation for now. And then Twitter Is Thinking Over Blockchain Technology, CEO Jack Dorsey Tells Congress. Might be closer than we expected though, maybe in couple of years they will roll out something related to blockchain specially on improving their users data and privacy protection.

This is what happens, many fraudulent sites have been included in both social media so that it is necessary to review each blockchain ad.
