The greed and the desire to get/earn more is the thing that makes it addicting, there is even a body-based reason for that "related to brain secretion of hormones", I guess that's how it is.
Greediness is the real reason why gambling is addictive. When you play dice and you won a lot with your starting minimum amount then that will crave you to earn more and even higher.
