All of the moderators have orders from the administrators to move threads solely about Bitcoin XT to the alt currencies section. Threads involving both Bitcoin Core and Bitcoin XT are allowed to stay in Bitcoin discussion.

As I mentioned in that PM, this policy only applies to XT once it is actually modified such that it diverges from the Bitcoin network/currency, which is not yet the case. It's an awfully complicated issue, and this was sort of buried near the bottom of my three-page justification PM, so I don't blame you/anyone for missing it.

Ah ok, that makes sense then. Bitcoin XT will be an altcoin when established.

That would be a bit fun
All the active XT threads would need to shift back to Bitcoin Discussion if it became the main chain.
As for the XT move to Altcoins neutral as long as there are threads in main to discuss both it seems fine.

I really hope it wont become the main chain. It would mean a company would own bitcoin for some part. They surely have a brand name on "Bitcoin-XT". Then the development will be fully in a persons or companies hand. Since i doubt that we would take it away from them again when we first gave it to them.

I think we need to change something though no need to be too hasty. And i think certain developers disqualified themselves with a practical extortion.

Why should the community give bitcoins in the hands of a private company so easily? Thats something i dont understand. Bitcoin-XT is not the old bitcoin, its a privatized bitcoin to some degree. Sure, they dont have so much power about it. But it looks to me like the attempt of a hostile take-over.

Do i see this wrong somehow?

There were some indications of people considering XT's potential fork an altcoin and I won't say that this claim doesn't sound reasonable, I just didn't expect theymos to support it openly, on the other hand, I also didn't expect him to openly support a fork in the terms of Gavin Andresen and Mike Hearn. For what it's worth, Theymos also made a public comment on github on a discussion regarding bitcoin and forks. It's not big or extremely detailed, but certainly sheds some light to what he thinks about his thoughts on the topic.

 Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

even I know how you mean it, for majority of visitors, this may be quite confusing statement..anyway, I like it Tongue

It wasnt meant as a joke. Though im happy when i could serve you some good laugh... Cheesy

I mean Mike Hearn is connected to the bitcoin xt project (its a private project of a company), which will be a fork of our bitcoin, though it wont be the real bitcoin anymore, so an altcoin.  Hearn wanted to extort users by claiming "when you dont let me implement 20MB Blocks into the real bitcoin then i will leave development and go to bitcoin xt". He and his business partners probably hoped to make bitcoin xt the "new" real bitcoin then. And when i see how many users already downloaded the bitcoin xt wallet then i guess it might become a not small altcoin.

But when the community agrees and 20mb blocks are implemented then bitcoin will remain bitcoin. bitcoin xt will be a small altcoin only.

Im not sure if Hearn refers to bitcoin xt as the normal 20mb bitcoin too. That would not be so cool since surely this will be some kind of brand and it wont belong to the community. Though it would be even worse if the old bitcoin dies and the community would switch to bitcoin xt on a whole. That would mean bitcoin would be somewhat in the hands of a company. At least the development part. Which is a huge influence.

At the end our actual bitcoin, our bitcoin forked for 20MB and bitcoin xt forked for 20mb are all bitcoin but only one bitcoin can survive. All others will be altcoins. Smiley

What i fear is that the community will be split. When i read that chinese exchanges dont want the 20mb blocks then i wonder what will happen if a fork happens. Will we have 2 bitcoins where maybe 50% of users think their blockchain is the real bitcoin? One uses the one wallet, the other half another wallet. Some exchanges trade the one bitcoin, others the others. And all treat "their" bitcoin as the one with value.

I fear that this situation might lead to real price problems. I mean you cant simply double the value of a currency by copying it.

I know many think community will stay united and there will be a clear winner. But for me it does not look that way and i wonder what will happen...

Someone is playing politics. I would argue that those threads should remain in bitcoin discussion until it becomes clear if the fork is going to happen or not. If it will ultimately not happen then they belong in altcoin discussion, however until that it more clear, then the threads are discussing what will potentially happen to the Bitcoin protocol.

#WorstSituation #AbuseOfPower

Seriously, it was probably just done in error to be honest and they didn't read that threads should be moved after the fork.

Im puzzled why someone is moving all threads from bitcoin discussion, that speak about the coming fork, to altcoin discussion. Im not sure why anyone would think it has to do with altcoin at all. Its all "Bitcoin" that these threads are about.

I hope no siding is involved, things like that should stay in the proper subforum where it can be discussed. Pushing it to altcoin discussion subforum means that its misplaced and most probably wont be seen very often by forum members that are interested in the topic.

Sounds like this forum is run like an army and less like a forum about a DECENTRALIZED currency would be run if following the currency's vision. Yes sir, yes ma'am or as trump would say "You're fired".
There needs to be an established chain of command and an operational hierarchy in order to maintain order. If there was not these kinds of hard rules then mods would likely end up moving threads back and forth between subs because they believe certain threads belong in certain sections while other mods think they belong in other sections. It would be a mess.

This is how any established organization is going to run. Employees/workers are almost never (and really should never) going to be able to make whatever decision they want based on their own beliefs, but will rather conform to a set of rules and guidelines.

What is this story of forking? Is bitcoin blocks and mine rewards changing?

It is about the 20mb block size limit.  Gavin made a bad bluff and whipped the community into a frenzy.

Once XT hardforks, it will be an altcoin. I was thinking that it was supposed to hardfork today, so I didn't move the threads back when I saw them moved yesterday. I moved them back for now.

If it will ultimately not happen then they belong in altcoin discussion, however until that it more clear, then the threads are discussing what will potentially happen to the Bitcoin protocol.

That was my first thought too. That a mod has taken a side of the discussion. Though i dont want to believe this since i would want to think mods dont act this way.

Its about the future of bitcoins and one of the bitcoin chains will survive. Discussing the future of bitcoin in an altcoin subforum is simply not correct.

I beg to disagree. Thread movement is correct. This is not future of bitcoin, where the longest chain is ignored. This is altcoin...

The mods most likely have some kind of opinion on the matter, however when making decisions as a moderator of their section(s), they should be as neutral as possible. It seems this was not the case here.

I am fairly certain this will not be disclosed, however I would be curious to know who moved the threads and/or if a higher ranking moderator had made the decision that the threads should be moved
