Farewell o_e_l_e_o
If I recall it correctly, I bought Copper Member when I was Jr. Member or Member. Back in the day, if you join this forum, you will experience a lot of abuse as a low-rank member simply because a lot of spam accounts created in the bull run. Hence my strategy is to show to the people that I'm not a beggar, and I can pay for having fun in this forum.
You made your nice initiative but the fact is during that period, I imagined the others even did not see your posts and your Copper Member title because your posts were deeply burried by spam ones.  Cheesy

Well, since I already bought this perk, not showing the badge would be wasteful. Maybe some of the old or not self-made high ranked members will buy it as a form of donation.

And about donating it once you bought it, that is limited only for one account, once you bought it, in my opinion, so instead of donating a copper member title, just donate him bitcoin therefore he could afford to buy one.

It's just a thought mate. Possibly theymos wouldn't let it and I see the point why other's donating to and that's all are for the benefit of this forum. I'm thinking to buy a copper member soon to have some custom title at least and also help this forum by adding funds for its development. Though it's not that big but at least it would help.

probably because copper membership is the only title that can be bought and shown off
and as others have said, it's a great way to show you support the forum
or just for vanity, as simple as that Tongue

Well, I'm a bit jealous for staff/moderators/VIP/donators who have another custom name/rank below their usernames
But I'm also jealous, because Staff (and probably also VIP and Donators) can't display the Copper Membership even if they paid for it. Ok, it's no big deal.
you shouldn't be! you wear custom title (staff) and get paid for it Grin
other people who wear custom title (copper/vip) have to paid for it

So the custom title "copper member" can be on and off? Meaning those who bought it can choose to remove it whenever they feel and just use it if they want?

Again, YES, it could.

That's convenient IMO. The prices changes right? I wonder if those who bought have an option to donate it to other members just in if they want. Just in case in the future the price of it increases.

The price do not change, the value of it in fiat do changes because of the price fluctuation of bitcoin, 0.005 BTC might be a small amount when you convert it into fiat way back then, but now, it is already tripled, I guess (correct me if I'm wrong).

And about donating it once you bought it, that is limited only for one account, once you bought it, in my opinion, so instead of donating a copper member title, just donate him bitcoin therefore he could afford to buy one.

I agree, though it was meant to be for newbies as mentioned already.  I also seem to recall certain members having other "metal" membership titles, although I'm not sure if they did that because they were staff and have the option to make custom titles where the Copper membership is displayed.  I can't remember who it was, but I seem to recall a gold or platinum member title.

Wow, I didn't stay long enough to notice that Cheesy All we know is that only Satoshi gets the platinum coins, but not sure if he gets to set his own.

I also remember Quickseller being one of the first higher-ranked members who'd bought a Copper membership and I'd always wondered why he did that since he obviously didn't need it at the time.  Maybe it was to support the forum like DireWolfM14 said he did it for, but it isn't as though the forum needs the funds from that.  Who knows.

If there were something like gold or silver memberships that offered benefits to higher ranked members, I might be tempted, though I'd be hard-pressed to part with my precious bitcoin for a forum perk.

Anything but VIP/ Donator is good in my books. As long as it doesn't involve selling our house for some grandeur, haha.

I am still waiting for chopper membership I hope theymos will consider about that  Cheesy

I remember this typo error from a member asking about chopper membership instead of copper. If hold becomes popular as hodl. Maybe this one could be trending as well if theymos allow it.  Grin I wonder how many will buy this chopper membership if already available.

I'm just curious with some high rank who uses copper membership cause based on the description of it.

Why not? If you've paid for it then you might as well use it. Some people like to show that they've purchased it, which is often one of the reasons they donate in the first place.

Well, I'm a bit jealous for staff/moderators/VIP/donators who have another custom name/rank below their usernames since I can't afford to be a VIP/donator and there's no way I become a mod or staff, so at least another custom name/rank below my username "Copper Member" is the best way to overcome that jealousy  Cheesy

And, say, another way to support the forum.

This is a prime example of why I think we should include new and reasonably-priced donator ranks. I think a lot of people would purchase them for a few perks.

I don't remember exactly when I bought mine but I did it to support the forum, not for the added privileges.  I actually turned it off for some time because I thought it looked "tacky" with my lower rank.

This is why we need Silver/Gold/Platinum/Lamborghini Member memberships. Copper does seem a bit silly when you're already a higher rank but Gold and Platinum memberships would look pretty nice. I know these would be very in demand so it seems silly no to implement them really because they have numerous benefits to the forum which would include putting an end to account farming. We could even give all the money to charity if the forum doesn't "need" the money so even more good would come of it.

Once a man, twice a child!
It's simply an ownership thing or if you would stretch it a bit - a bragging right. You don't expect a man to throw away his Beetles because he now owns a Lamborghini. Expect Theymos enforces or programmes it to be dropped I don't see it ending anytime soon.

I doubt that there is strong reasons why some high ranked members bought copper membership. Some of them just wanted to donate some money to forum in this way. Others wanted to have something like custom title under their name. Maybe it looks cool and not same as all regular forum members.

The reason could be any of the one's you listed.
I personally think it looks kind of cool on profiles, especially when their ranks already affords them the privileges that come with copper membership. This may be one of the reasons users do not remove it later on.
I prefer newbies ranking up naturally(except if they are promoting a service through their account) Copper membership gives a user the privileges of a member account, which requires 10 merits and 60 activity.

Copper membership is a privilege and comes with its own benefits. I can understand that it is useful for newbies to be able to post images and messages on the forum and wait less, but it is also a way to donate something to the forum and say a 'thank you' to admin. They could have bought this membership to get a tagline added under their membership level so if not donator, Copper member worked well for them.  Roll Eyes

I have remembered, I bought copper membership to be eligible post with image. There were no any other intention nor I were much aware about forum that time. Couple of days back I had removed my copper membership tag since really it was not necessary anymore for me. But after some days, I wondered why should I miss additional title since I have oppurtunity? It was just one time payment, so use or not use will not make any difference. But its looking something gorgeous in my eye when I have additional title on my profile Wink (lol). Actually there is no any other special reason to wear currently. It's just my wish since it's not harmful for me.

I find your lack of faith in Bitcoin disturbing.
Well, I'm a bit jealous for staff/moderators/VIP/donators who have another custom name/rank below their usernames

But I'm also jealous, because Staff (and probably also VIP and Donators) can't display the Copper Membership even if they paid for it. Ok, it's no big deal.
And the profusion of titles, badges and decorations would make some profiles look like a cheesy dictator Smiley.

My original custom title was Gold Member. Mprep then one-upped me with Diamond Member, so I had to go one further and become a Lambo member.

There are some moderators and global moderators have special titles. See more:

Admin, moderators, ex-moderators (?), and very reputable users have that priviledges from theymos, who wrote it somewhere.
That one is for display name, but at least we know moderators have that priviledge.
can someone provide a good reason to change your nick without talking to an admin first no matter your status?

I can see stalker and such.. maybe personal info getting out but I cant see any need to do so without talking to an admin. And sorry but that includes all ranks, if I can become a hero member, anyone can and that scares me.  Shocked

Only moderators and members who have sent 10+ BTC to the forum can change it automatically. Hero members can't.

It's just a convenience.
Welsh said but it seems incorrect.
Only VIP members (50 btc), Donators (10 btc), Global moderators, and admins can display custom titles.

Copper Membership tag is purchase member ship, Newbie member buy copper membership, upload image permission and also same member rank facility , newbie copper member tag,

You're basically repeating what OP mentioned. He's not asking what it is, rather why some people still display it below their rank.

I don't remember exactly when I bought mine but I did it to support the forum, not for the added privileges.  I actually turned it off for some time because I thought it looked "tacky" with my lower rank.  That was probably after theymos implemented the 1 merit requirement for Jr. Member rank.  There was a rash of shit-posting newbies buying copper membership at the time so they could post photos.

Now that I've "grown up" I don't care if it looks tacky, and I'm not sure it does.  Some months ago I turned it back on because, I don't know, it has a bit flair to it?  No particular reason, really.  I know it creates a bit of snag for those who like to scrape the forum for data, sorry about that.
