Vircurex basically stole $10,000 worth of Litecoin from a friend of mine when they went 'temporarily insovent' several years ago.  Promising to pay everyone back - and never did.  Their repayment schedule (still owing massive amounts of money) has not been updated since 2014, and was removed from the site soon after.

Reviews can help people weed out the bad apples, that's why I created http://website-review.info/

There isn't yet a review for Vircurex, so feel free to add one! Smiley

Totally off topic but Vircurex sounds like a cream you'd use to cure viral infections. Its name just doesn't conjure up an image of anything else.

It's akin to going to your doctor and being prescribed.....

Bitcoin: smear on your penis three times a day after meals.

Now this ^ is funny.

Have to agree here not sure what they were thinking when coming up with a name. Grin Grin Grin

Virtual Currency Exchange I'm guessing. I actually like the name if that's what they were going for

I agree, vircurex does have a peculiar name, even if they made it off, "Virtual Currency Exchange", the name reeks of ointment/prescribed cream Tongue

Exchange that is the longest in business without any problem is The Rock Exchange. They are small but have gotten through a lot of things since 2007 when they started in Second Life.

Surprised the site is still running though and says it pays interests on balances even though the funds are frozen

For all the criticism Crypsty gets it's one of the only exchanges I know that shows the owners identity and has a physical location. Without that you are basically trusting someone you don't know like a random person on a forum with your money. Yeah they could have a good reputation but say they did lose a large amount of money that they couldn't possibly pay back then they have all the motivation in the world to disappear without paying you back.

Of course this is also why we need decentralised trading like second gen coins NXT, Qora and Etherium etc.

I can't agree you more.

People only notice the bad exchanges because of all the hype with them.. Just look at Polo and C-cex.  Still going even though they suck.   No problems with BTC-e but just something about how anonymous it is keeps me away.  Like I'd let some anonymous place hold my money.. yeah sure.. not hardly.     Only ones I really have some type of faith in is Coinbase--not an exchange but can buy/sell BTC there and Atomic-Trade.

I was lucky and only lost 1 litecoin to those guys but I agree their behavior has been very disappointing.  So far I haven't gotten any credit back.  Since they are relying on trading fees to repay past balances and anyone would be crazy to trade with them I'm not too optimistic about either one of us getting our coins back.

I'm sorry you lost coins.

Good Luck.

Wow, they should be fined and taken down as an exchange.

A list of Scamming exchanges should be made, so people know as to avoid them.

The best exchange's I've used so far have been, Cryptsy and Bitstamp.

I've heard stories of BTC-E having taken customers BTC, as well as many other exchanges getting hacked.

btc-e, i think it's unlikely. back when liberty reserve was around someone spoofed their api key for USD and imported $1b USD into the exchanged, dumped it into all the crypto markets, and ran off with everyone's BTC/LTC in buy orders.  People who lost cryptocoins were reimbursed by the exchange at their expense.

Oh ok, then I take that back about BTC-E.

Don't take it back. Me and many others have had problems with BTC-E. One day I woke up and I couldn't withdraw. They told me I had more coins than what I should. Funny thing is I had supposedly an inbalance of 6 BTC in my account and back at that time I never had more than 0,2 BTC so I don't know how I could owe 6. They were sending me emails that my account was working perfectly, I just had to fill the debt (6 BTC!!). Obviously I never used it again.

Aside from the ponzi scheme where they used their customers money to pay their own debt. They are now depositing .0003 BTC into my account every day to make up for the 13 BTC they took without my permission. If you can do 3rd grade math then you know it will only take 43,333 days for me to get my money back... or 118 years if you prefer a smaller number. These guys need to own up to their mismanagement of their exchange and deposit all of the BTC they took back into their customers accounts.

That's really bad to hear man. Was that all of your BTC?
