BTC star crashing last night but this morning gone up again seem that 1k is the for now until christmas and new year then it can go higher maybe 1.5k

The price means nothing. 1k means nothing if someone sells 1000btc price will go down 100$. Stop looking at price alone and start checking market depth.

Nah man trade volume is to high, nee much more than 1000 btc to crash the market like that.

Someone need sell 5300BTC and it drop from 1190$ to 1060$.
You can look at it yourself here http://bitcoinity.org/markets/mtgox/USD

This was useful. Thanks!

The amount of off the cuff speculation in these threads scares me.

Here's what's going to happen this year (my humble opinion).

Organizations are all going to be creating their own coins (PepsiCoin, BMWShares, etc.). These coins will all be created to for more liquid securities trading (people can buy fractions of these new virtual currencies, instead of having to buy full shares of stocks).

They will also have a secondary purpose. They will be used to buy into Bitcoin with an overvalued speculative wave via new adopters. The same way an IPO usually tends to sell at a price above its worth, these coins will all do so with people hoping to get in early on the "next Bitcoin."

How does this affect Bitcoin? Easy. Bitcoin will be the measuring stick. As long as it remains a point of reference in a larger virtual-currency securities market, the price will have to increase, at least over the longer term.

That being said, I believe these companies (and definitely governments) will make their own shares to buy into Bitcoin at a better rate than fiat will offer. Because the new coins will be overvalued, they'll be able (for a short time) to buy more Bitcoin than they're worth. That will make $10,000 bitcoin valuations very reasonable as high demand for "CorporateCoins" will transfer over into Bitcoin; all plausible within 2014 - definite by 2015. Again, my humble opinion.

I think it's definitely possible, however, there needs to be a lot more people getting into bitcoin for it to happen.

I Doubt it .. As it is now it has balanced... Maybe if some big country make influence then maybe.

You mean about $1,000 stable for one week  Huh
When the price was around $100 early this year, many believed $1,000 is such high amount / BTC it can never happen...

Bitcoin will increase in value indefinitely. Just like the dollar will decrease in value indefinitely. Not over night. But day after day. As development continues I think we will get personalized bitcoin wallets next to anonymous wallets. Maybe regular banks will facilitate secure wallets.

Yes, slow growth would be best for Bitcoin because more time for new services offering exchage USD to BTC, but if Bitcoin gets adopted too fast, the price might skyrocket again

Imagine someone who mined 100,000 btc in '09 as a hobby then forgot about Bitcoin and only now with all the media attention they would think of it again. They don't know anything about markets and dump the entire amount on Gox and sell it in one go. What would that do to the price?

It would crash almost to 0, but the price would recover to 100$ the same day as people with money left on exchange would compete to buy cheap Bitcoins. Later when new money deposited to exchange, price would recover to the one at other exchanges within a week

People won't do this, Gox will crash, too much to set away at once. Also, Gox probably won't be able to transfer the money, we are talkin $100,000,000.- here. Completely different scenario as a 1000 BTC dump, also incredibly unlikely to happen.

will not happen.

The value is stuck between 1000$ and 6600 Yuans. Each day it fluctuates, evolves between those two levels.

Also 1000$ can be 'easily'  spent, can be a part a your wages, but 10000 $ it too much.

You can buy part of the Bitcoin, you dont need to buy whole 1 BTC.
So I dont understand why $10000  will be too much in future. Remember there will be only 21 million Bitcoins, so 1 Bitcoin is a lot

I guess someday this might actually happen considering the current growth and increased use of bitcoins from individuals and more companies and the increased popularity in China.

(US) people can invest a part of their wages just to test . To find 1000$ can be "easy", but 10000$ is another level.
And 1000 is a "magical" number, or better 999.99  ;-)

As for Chinese people and the Yuan/RMB, take a look at the mass of BTC already exchanged/used in China.
BTCChina is already a huge place, and IMHO it's a battle for who is able to impose its will, and its parity change.

Graphically, see fiatleak.com

I would not be surprised if it happened 2014. But it's hard to know how the price will change.
