Very disappointing first match at the ICC Women's T20 World Cup Qualifier. I had high hopes for Thailand, but they went down against Sri Lanka by a big margin. Thai women actually managed to restrict Lankan women to 122/5, which for a moment looked like chasable for me. However, Thai middle and lower order collapsed completely. They were 31/1 and then they ended up at 55 all out. ICC isn't doing anything to support Thailand. And the impact is quite evident now.
I honestly did not have any big expectations from the Thailand women's team. Because I knew that they were going up against Sri Lankan women. And the Sri Lankan women’s team is a lot better compared to them. But I did not expect them to perform so badly. I thought they were going to score a little more at least. And nobody from the Thailand women's team had a strike rate over a hundred or even hundred. and a t20 match I think that speaks a lot about the performance of the team.
Yes, I did expect Sri Lanka to win in this match. But I also did not expect them to win so easily. Or maybe I should say that I did not want them to win so easily. Pakistan would be lose today’s match for sure because the team of Pakistan women has not played well since the start of this series. Only Nida Dar performed well in bowling and with a single player the team cannot be handle as you can see only Nida Dar is in top three of most wicket-taking in this series.
Losing and winning is a part of a game but I think a player can be lead the team in every situation if that player wants to see his/her team as a winner.
In short, if that player is honest with her/his team then nothing can be beat to it. For example, Muhammad Amir in the 2016 Asia Cup against India, when Pakistan was all out at 86 but then he came and picked an early wicket in India, however, in the end, the Pakistan team lost the match but at least just because of him, the went until the last ball and women's team can also do this if they want to be a winner. I think they should fight till the last ball and do not care if they have lost the series already. A last ODI win can still be refreshing and they will go into the T20 series with much more postive mindset.
