Yes, it has happened to me at a small scale. People say "How may Bitcoins did you get today?" in a joke tone, or make weird looks when I tell them I earned some bits (because they think it is too small earning).

But let's just keep on.

It happens with most of us but I gave a strong reply to them when I traded my BTC at the peak I got a good amount of money and now tables have turned and they are keen know about Bitcoin and make extra income.

Don't worry about that, they are just some fools who don't even understand what bitcoin really is! You should tell them that he who laughs the last, laughs the best. And believe it, because when bitcoin goes to the moon you will be laughing at them!

Well, yeah...A lot of the people I know still think Bitcoin is just this funny Internet money, sort of like Gold in World of Warcraft. I just remind them that the World of Warcraft currency also has a real world value and, anyway, you can really use Bitcoin to buy things online if you know where to look.
I don't think that this is a good thing to do. Going front against them. Plus bitcoin is serious stuff that even Forbes is talking about now. Making connections between bitcoin and money used in video games is far from being fair to it. It just destroys all of its credibility in people's eyes. You'll just get answers like: "ok yeah, Gold in WoW actually has value in real life? Well you'd be a dumbass to convert your 'real' money into this 'gold'" is the kind of answer that you're more likely to get (and, sorry, but I'll side with them there, except on the "real" before the word "money" when talking about fiat).
Bitcoin is NOT a video game thing. It's an investment and a revolutionary technology.

In Satoshi I Trust

But if they asked me what the point is in owning it, I really would be hard pressed for a good answer.

Future potential surely? There isn't an advantage in using it for payments at present apart from the occasional discount, but I spend it where I can as there's something very satisfying about getting in on a potential ground floor.

I don't think it's in any way ready for prime time yet and I would fully expect your average personage to have little or no interest or understanding of it. That's probably for the best for now.

or tell them it is like owning a tiny part of the internet in 1995. that would be a good idea , right  Smiley ?

Many people don't even know how to explain how the current economic system work so they think they are on some crazy ponzi scheme. I'm not a Bitcoin fanboy, to me it has miles to go and still in its infancy, mostly in terms of adoption. Common people actually laughing about Bitcoin is a sign that it's too complicated to adopt and use, plain and clear.

However, if you have some spare money, one should have investments like this everywhere really. What's 1 or 2 BTC for many of us? another useless appliance for the house? Bitcoin has a huge potential and it's foolish to not hold a "share" of it if you understand how it works.

On the other hand, it clearly has no real value compared to other stuff. You can say fiat doesn't have inherent value itself but it's not the same. The BTC marketplace is still highly manipulated and there are not many mainstream uses for it.

Totally agree with you. You can compare it with early internet 92/93 were writing an email was a pain in the a** if you had no idea.
When you told your friends about it their faces turned into something totally weird. Most of them didn't get it at that time.
Today it's part of our daily life.
Bitcoin needs time to mature and improve in usage and how it works. This is kind of an evolutionary process and doesn't happen from now to tomorrow.

Correct Bitcoin still have to go long way to function fully , but now who ever knows about it should keep faith on it. their are peoples who if dont know about it will degrade it and tell all faulty excuses, i also told my friends about it but that time i was using faucets so i was also not that much convinced, but now i am using this forum and signature campaign and i am able to earn around $150 per month

and now when i am showing them my wallet and its value they are also getting interested and asking me the procedure to do it.

I can't really blame them for laughing. The concept seems far fetched anyways for people to take it seriously. It's been this way for years now and I don't expect it to change any time soon. The only possible way for the perception to be changed is if the price were to take off which we haven't been the brightest as.

Talk to a Venture Capitalist....the best you can ever get on such is 50/50 ..if it is better then 50/50 odds you don't need to get capital ..folk will see that and toss money at your project.

Thus it is with me and crypto..don't spend more then you can afford...I hit my limit (equip/elec per month) and will stop here end of life on equipment

But BTC to me is a lot like say 'airport land' you have two places they are gonna build a major new large city airport...you kinda 'have to' take a chance and buy land in 1 place or the other because of the potential of a windfall.....if you pick right you win EXTREMELY BIG for your risk..if you pick wrong its TOAST

thus the old 'big risk and big reward' motto

or as my Dad said on such investments ..the best thing to do if you decide to 'go for it' is mentally build a fire in your mind and burn the $$$ .that way if it rains and puts out the fire (you were correct) you are 'pleasantly surprised' otherwise ..you made your choice..its probably burnt...and forget about it for  couple years etc

who knows...but the odds of me having the inside track of ANYTHING at this level of return ..on the ground floor ...as a speculative venture capitalist kinda 'shark tank' kinda thing is unlikely..so this is my ONE speculative shot at something like this...win/lose no inbetween that much is true Smiley

Clueless!
I have been telling my work colleagues about bitcoin now for about 3 years and they still think its a big joke.  I dont care because i believe that some day i will be the one Laughing......  I think alot of it is people dont like things they dont understand and would rather make fun off it.

So was just wondering has anyone else on here had similar experiences and how did you deal with it?   Wink

Mine (in my case 2013 knc jupiter 550 gh ..53 btc till end of life......and now 2 titans (one orig big mistake 10,131.80 usd DUMB) but got lucky on March 2015 panic (supposed new big ass scrypt miners coming out .which meant I got a great deal on used Titan...figured I had till June to mine.then thru dumb luck all them big scrypt miner announcements were scams (alpha tech etc) or cancelled (volcano etc) So 57 btc so far equiv and prob can get 10 more out of it. Say 110 btc is what I'm looking at end of life on last of my home miner equipment...

So when they say "man you lost your ass in BTC (2 instances so far but this holiday season and it is still young) now that it is down to $450 (amazing how they know this ..in that it supposedly would fail.why do they know the price?) anyway...thrust of conversation is was $1000 usd now $450 usd I got screwed ..or so they think.

I then explain that I 'mined' BTC. (or in case of Titans LTC I will move to BTC when ratio is right ...sucks now)...I bought the equipment not the coin..thus I have 100 btc plus (again probably 110 btc end of equip life) or about $45k in BTC at this point in time...I guess you were not listening the 4 or 5 times I tried to explain this to you. (both instances...two different folk this conversation I've had so far) ...so after that reply it is ..well..

Kind of a conversation killer at that point in time. Smiley They kinda get a shocked look ...like I just slapped a nun's ass and wander off mumbling...

Well if we are lucky in 2018..we will be the 'despised rich' and treated like 'evil bankers' for our 'shady secret ways...of not telling everyone about this'
in 20/20 hindsight.....everyone will say our 'explanations sucked' or were unclear or whatever....imho it was more ...closed mindedness..but that lead
balloon won't fly...it will be ME not being clear enough on this 'lost' chance...if BTC goes nuts in the future....imho sheesh

But anyway from 2013 has moved from Evil Ponzi/Scam to in 2015 'reckless/stupid/risky speculation...(but not a scam per say). ...PROGRESS!

So I guess that is something anyway....from "Flim Flam Man in 2013 and con artist" to Amway or Fuller Brush Door to Door salesman status in 2015
...Onward and Upward!

Let them a laugh and making silly jokes. If they are really doing it since 3 years and haven't seen the progress, growth and improvements during that time, they are really dumb.
The one who laughs last, laughs best right?! And that will be you.Don't worry! Wink

Well, as far as I'm concerned, I'm already laughing, and watch the stupids laugh at a good investment is just funny Cheesy

I have mentioned to a few people that I am into bitcoin and told them where to find out about it, I haven't told anyone to invest due to the fact you can lose money and they would only blame me so the choice is there's pointing them in the right direction is the best thing I can do.

Let those people rot in their ignorance, that kind of people just cannot be saved, don't waste your time trying to show why it's worth getting on Bitcoin and how they can be pioneers by getting in now because those guys are part of the 99% that don't get it and the reason we'll be rich in a decade.
