I think it's very plausible that we find a cryptocurrency in the future to replace it, something equivalent in the crypto field of google.
Surely, bitcoin is on its way to peak, it has wise plans for its users .It is providing people to get more benefit and is competing other regular currencies and hopefully it replace other currencies in future. When it comes to yahoo so better is not to compare it with bitcoin because it was not having smart plans nor it was so beneficial so it flopped.

Yahoo was the first (?) search engine at the time when Internet started.  It was the pioneer in its field.  In the late 90's its market cap reached to a high closed to $120B.   Three and a half years after Yahoo started, Google came out and gradually took away market share from Yahoo.

After 22 years, Verizon bought it for $4.8B.  Would Bitcoin ending up like Yahoo in the future and got beat up by new competitions?

What do you think?  Please provide your reason(s) to support your view.
no one knows here what would and could happen to the future. Maybe some fork would takeover the bitcoin network in the near future because of slow network. More demand is comming for bitcoin = more transaction  = more unconfirmed transactions and high fees. I think some altcoin would takeover bitcoin.

I would say very much possible. Think about Motorola and Nokia in cell phone industry. Think about Sony in palm industry. Bitcoin is expensive, now 4x forks a year, slow transacting. It is old and impractical to use in current landscape of cryptocurrency. I think the only reason it is increasing in marketcap is because it is like gold back in the old days, you can use bitcoin to exchange any altcoin; and more people are joining the cryptocurrency world because of the media coverage.

Soon in the next 5 years, I believe the altcoin will take over, the 50/50 rule: 50% of the top 3-5 coin will occupy 80% of the market and the rest of 50% of the other thousands coins will occupy the rest 20% market. This rule applies to every industries. Bitcoin has a marketcap of 58%, in the next couple years, I think it will drop to 35% -40% to make room to the other top 4 "altcoin".

I hope not but anything is possible. I have seen companies  that were giants in their field then suddenly crash. Examples are nokia and blackberry in mobile phones they are leaders but was overtaken by samsung and apple. Before facebook, instagram and twitter we have friendster multiply and my space. I am not saying that bitcoin is like a company.  I know how bitcoin works but we never know what the future holds but there is one thing constant in this world and that is change.

everything is possible, maybe later bitcoin will end up like yahoo but we can see so many coins are created as bitcoin competitors but only end up as altcoin, I do not know why, but in my opinion as long as bitcoin always innovate bitcoin will never end..

Comparing Bitcoin with Yahoo is completely missing what is going on here.

We are currently witnessing an entirely new phase of INTERNET history.

It is like history being written for the first time.

Not only will bitcoin be the global currency, but bitcoin will be the global denomination.

All our past patriotic bullshit notions will be extinguished, we will be people of the earth.

The earth is our mother.
Agreed, Bitcoin is one of the amazing revolutions that happen to currency. all things in the world will be affected by digital currency. It is hard to see something that started a great revolution thing is abandoned and dying, although there's will be a better technology or competitor I'm sure bitcoin will be sustainable.

Yahoo is a different platform from the first place. It would be better if bitcoin would compare to internet. Bitcoin is a future of economy, a trading exchange thats more reliable in performance. Hope many people will recognize it in a good way.

I have not thought in that direction that anyone will replace the BTC,while there is BTC and it has not been replaced I can only enjoy BTC nowadays. But after reading from above I have little conclusion similar to those who say the fact that it could happen but not in the near future and moreover BTC is the beginning of the future and may not be irreplaceable because it is seen from such a long struggle.

yes sir, It might take 50-100 years to undo the JD Rockefeller damage to the earth but Bitcoin is a very nice beginning.
Bitcoin can change the world economy model,
but Rockefellers messed up with so many aspects in our society, that seems to be a almost impossible get rid of it.

Bitcoin is entirely new platform on which the future is dependent upon. It's not just the value, the backing technology can be used based on the necessity to make things work in an perfect manner without flaws. When it comes to yahoo, it made an revolution in the internet usage, bitcoin is a level ahead of the same. Also Yahoo could gave not experienced such a growth of bitcoin in such a short time period.

history of yahoo was interesting that they underestimate other search engine and slightly arrogant but nobody in this world can predict the particular things future and even yahoo owner was never thought their company future will be less of valueable if we compare between yahoo and google and bitcoin too although the growing of bitcoin currently very increase rapidlly but maybe in the future there is another coin who able to replace bitcoin and that's why i would say i don't know because we never know what happened in the future

Every beginning there will be an end. Bitcoin could be like Yahoo. We do not know what it will be like, until now another Bitcoin competitors like cryptocurrency has many. It could change Bitcoin's position if anything happens with the Bitcoin currency.

indeed that is the competition in this digital world, those who are smart want to own and beat the already famous. I'm sure someday there will be a substitute for this bitcoin. before that happens, use bitcoin as well as possible for your future. especially now that bitcoin can not be supported by the government.

In the time of Yahoo, there was an abvious concurrent which can beat it. But here in our case there is no concurrence nowaday. The closet cryptocurrency is far about 6500 USD.
Also if it will disappear it will not disappear suddenly, we will notice a fall and then that is it.

Bitcoin can't be stopped.  It's not a company, it's an asset,  so Verizon and Google and big companies can't stop it,  and if they tried to buy it all up,  they would go bankrupt as the price would keep increasing due to the whale buy order.
"Bankrupt"Huh For Verizon and Google? No, I think these companies have power and money enough to buy all Bitcoin as long as the Bitcoin holder want to sell Bitcoin or just wait more time and get more profits. These companies are two of richest companies in the world, there is no reason they don't have money to buy all Bitcoin while total market cap of Bitcoin still smaller than total market cap of a stock.
