Yahoo was a profit organization directed by poor managers and they failed. I don't see similarity between yahoo and bitcoin. Bitcoin is decentralized and not managed by a group of people. Bitcoin will survive in any bad case.

Yahoo was the pioneer in browser industry but it failed to deliver new facilities to customers and so it was replaced by google. But bitcoin has all the salient features in it and th only problem it had was the high transaction fee and not it has also been solved. So bitcoin would continue to survive.

Yahoo was the first (?) search engine at the time when Internet started.  It was the pioneer in its field.  In the late 90's its market cap reached to a high closed to $120B.   Three and a half years after Yahoo started, Google came out and gradually took away market share from Yahoo.

After 22 years, Verizon bought it for $4.8B.  Would Bitcoin ending up like Yahoo in the future and got beat up by new competitions?

What do you think?  Please provide your reason(s) to support your view.
I think to bitcoin may end as yahoo is a very difficult thing because bitcoin is now growing so hardly anything can beat bitcoin, it will be the new trend of the world in the future, it will be very difficult for it to stop working.

with many people using bitcoin, i don't think that bitcoin will ending up like yahoo because bitcoin is designed to stay longer than we can think. bitcoin and yahoo is different thing and we don't need to compare both. bitcoin will works best for all people if they all using bitcoin like what we do right now.

if we want to compare yahoo then we can choose verizon, bing, or even google because they have the same company which works in internet and they revenue is from ads.

The yahoo case is not the same as the bitcoin case, something very different, yahoo loves its product too much and thinks the other is useless so it fails to innovate, whereas bitcoin is different, bitcoin is the same as gold, it will always be needed maybe even up to 100 years for a faster transaction And as an investment that promises big profits

The more mainstream bitcoin becomes, the more important of a role it will play so unless another altcoin can rival or exceed bitcoin's adoption in the marketplace, its going to be tough to dethrone BTC.
Ethereum could only be the strongest rival of bitcoin now and since the value of Ethereum now is very cheap I think we have to make the right decision to buy or we will be like Yahoo who end up missing all the opportunities. We should be a risk taker and and as I foresee the future of Ethereum, it will be more popular and will grow it's supporters, with that I can say it's possible to surpass even the strongest crypto currency now which is bitcoin.

I believe that the only permanent in this world is change so I think bitcoin being the top cryptocurrency will eventually replaced by another altcoin.  This may take sometime but the change is inevitable.  We have seen several cryptocurrency that have more advance feature than Bitcoin in terms of speed and security.  It is just a matter of time.  The effect of being first mover to decentralized blockchain had not faded yet but if it does then we can see a change of rankings among cryptocurrency.
It is not as easy as just having better technology, the most important part is to have the trust of the people and many coins have some support but nothing close to the one bitcoin has and if bitcoin reaches mainstream adoption before that happens then I predict that a change at the top is probably not going to happen in our lifetimes.

I think this thread is related to this image. "Yahoo: Mother of Bad Luck". I wouldn't really want to compare Yahoo and Bitcoin because first of all, there are people that are behind Yahoo. There are people that rejected these offers. There are people behind Yahoo that have made a series of bad choices and ended up in the worst place possible. It has a similarity to a trader that bought a coin at a low price, then the coin has pumped, and then ended up selling at a price lower than what he bought the coin.

If things like this happened to bitcoin, we can't really blame anyone since bitcoin is not an entity. The only people that can destroy the bitcoin market is us, the users. It's totally possible that bitcoin would also end in the worst place because big players don't really care about this market. They only care about profits and if it takes total bitcoin devastation for them to create tons of profits (in fiat, probably), then they are going to do it without thinking twice.

It is incredible how they made the wrong choice one after the others.  But if they did buy Google earlier, Google may go down with it due to poor judgement and management.

It's possible for bitcoin ending like yahoo or even e-gold, but we should know some point of their failure. In my opinion reason yahoo dropped because yahoo not update their search engine analysis and market, at first time yahoo very optimist they will be company that will give good results in search engine and then google take their chance. E-gold drop because of no transparency, centralized, close source and not have huge community like bitcoin. So only few people trust them and because of close source, the development progress got stuck
Yeah, and because Bitcoin is still updated and growing up, Bitcoin will be used in at least 5 or 10 years because of its important place in crypto currencies markets.

This is the truth that the owner of the yahoo invested much money in the market for the marketing and use and demand in the internet world but at last he didn't get final success like the Google .
But you need to know that the Google was much old than yahoo , so no one can beat the legendary .
And also here the condition is same for Bitcoin because Bitcoin is the first coin that entered in the internet and no one was in the starting , so how anyone can beat this .
Bitcoin is the god of the other altcoin and also the value , demand and technology improvement daily increasing for the Bitcoin , so there is no chance for the Bitcoin to get down .

Seems bitcoin is currently very popular, a lot of great sites that preach about bitcoin so popularity and prices continue to rise, decentralization idea is very interesting because it is the best solution of a lot of financial problems.
For now bitcoin becomong yahoo is not visible for now, bitcoin being used by aloy of investors and businesses may makes btc popularity more vulgar. Tjere might be more alts to be created but the features, service got offered is already essential to its user that might hard to beat by other alts.

I am not sure about this, it is right that many altcoins have a good potential and increasing prices actually, but still all altcoins depend in their prices , trading and almost everything on Bitcoin. So in the nearest future i think Bitcoin will stay as first crypto currency used worldwide.
I think it would be better than that, although altcoin also has the potential to replace bitcoin. But most users already prefer and believe in bitcoin earlier than altcoin
