Depends what you mean by help. Of course it is always good for spreading awareness when celebrities endorse something as that's why people pay them so much to promote brands and products in the first place because they have a large audience and often social media presence, but it's not always a good thing. Last year a few celebs got into trouble for promoting scam ICOs and they are the sort of people who will promote anything as long as you pay them to do so. They're the very definition of sell outs. So no, it's not always good for celebs to promote crypto especially when they're usually only doing it because they have financial incentive to do so. How many are actually even promoting bitcoin because they actually believe in it and not just whatever ICO they've been paid to promote, and that can have a negative influence in the public when they keep advertising get rich quick scams where the naive investor loses money.
I think it's foolish for him to say it's foolish not to invest, especially when crypto isn't a guaranteed money maker and many people have lost money. He's just trying to promote his own "Akoin" (lol) so he is clearly biased. He doesn't even seem to understand crypto that well himself and I'm sure he's just another celeb who has been promised riches in order to user his name to promote a coin:
Akon, the famous singer, songwriter, and producer has been spreading the word about cryptocurrencies since June when he announced plans to launch Akoin, his own cryptocurrency. The multi-millionaire recently discussed cryptocurrencies and the crypto world in an interview on Revolt TV’s Drink Champs podcast.
When the host of the podcast admitted that he did not understand what cryptocurrencies were, Akon replied, “nobody does” and went ahead to give an explanation by comparing cryptocurrencies to stocks:
It’s no different from the stock market... You buy shares of companies that are most trusted. You know they are going to make a profit. You know they’re going to yield an investment. You go there with your money because you know, these guys, in the next four, five or ten years, their projection said they are going to make triple what they are making now.
He concluded by saying:
When you look at cryptocurrency, it’s a little bit different but it’s kind of like the same concept, the way I understand it.
Akon added that he was still learning, as he keeps finding out more after getting involved with cryptocurrencies.
