I did it before and I do it now Smiley Money is not everything and I'm not here for the money. It's nice to get a bonus for spending the time here, tho, but this should not be the main reason to be here.

Money definitely isn't everything and I've worn free signatures more than paid ones throughout my time here.  However, I've found that being paid to post here reduced the troll attacks against me a great deal.  Once they saw that I was being paid to respond to their nonsense, they lost interest in constantly baiting me with lies.  So it was a 2 for 1 for me.  Earn money, and discourage trolls with a grudge from wasting my time with lies.  Hard to beat those sort of benefits.  Wink

Btw, @NeuroticFish, you are still wearing the old Bitcoincleanup.com avatar. There is a new and sparkly one. Although, the old one looks cleaner and more rounded.

I've missed the "announcement", but I've noticed that many wear a different avatar for Bitcoincleanup.com and that's why I didn't comment on that.
The new avatar looks somewhat broken on my computer. Probably that's the part supposed to be "sparkly" (that's why I kept the old one and I feel it does the job just fine).

Thanks for trying to bring that into my attention though.

But that's very rare, and you will hardly come across many people that do that. It's an exception to the rule, so to say.

The true essence of this question should be that will you be willing to let go of your signature in order to wear another signature for free for a noble or social cause. The majority of the people will answer No to this question as money is more important for most people.

No, your logic is incorrect, sorry. As said, expecting people leave paid campaigns for free ones is unrealistic.
On the other hand there are still many users not part of campaigns and/or simply wearing their own avatar; if 10-20% of them would do just a little to help these projects it would already matter/become visible.

Well, to be honest, everyone will be willing to wear a free signature depending upon availability. This means that if you are not in a campaign, your signature and/or avatar is free, so wear anything for free promotion or for a social cause.
Not exactly. There are members of this forum who aren't in any signature campaigns and they never apply for any either. But they also don't seem willing to advertise things for free, so they either don't care about signatures in general, they don't think it's a good idea, or they don't want to be told what to do.

The true essence of this question should be that will you be willing to let go of your signature in order to wear another signature for free for a noble or social cause.
That's not something I expect people to do nor should anyone be asked to do something like that.

Depending on availability:

In the event that people wanted a signature to wear for free of a long running, trustworthy, and awesome community organization, such a thing has existed a long time (although could probably use an update). I present to you the NastyFans No-Pay Signature Campaign: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/nastyfans-no-pay-signature-campaign-767863

Feel free to use the signature, rip off the code for your own signature campaign, or use it in any other way that makes you happy.  Smiley

Not sure if negative trust accounts are allowed but still I would be more than willing to promote projects/services I know or use. I would also try some exciting new projects but it depends on the credibility of the project.

There are some users with red trust promoting Bitcoin Cleanup so that's not a problem for me (just as long as you are not a BSV shill since they have a tendency to change BTC to BSV  Tongue  Grin)

Secondly, promoting for free would be our part but are these projects asking you for free promotions? Considering their status, I don't think they might be looking for free promotions. So a very important questions arriving here is "are those projects paying you?" "If yes, are you donating the amounts to some charity?" "If no, than what would be the usecase of those funds?"

BitcoinCleanup is the nonprofit; I don't really consider it a "charity" since I don't depend on user funds for operation - the only reason I wrote that in the sig campaign title because I saw another sig campaign do that several months ago.

As explained on the site, user funds are only used to pay for advertising expenses (and also hosting, though I mostly have that under control right now).

As I mentioned in the OP, I would appreciate if we don't discuss projects, motivations, what to promote, and what not to in this thread. This discussion was created to get feedback from the community and see whether or not they are interested in promoting something for free. That's all. I will quote your post and answer it in Forum advertising space for free signature/avatar advertisement.

Just wanted to pop by and say that I've been doing it already, but instead of going through a coordinated campaign like what is envisioned here, I just did it on my own. I believe that's what others do, as well.
Some people are wearing unofficial avatars, signatures, and even mentions of websites in their personal text space. But it's rare to come across it because the majority of users are part of paid campaigns and can't do it.

I just bumped the other topic closely related to this subject. I invite everyone to check it out if they want to help > https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.61016869.

not your keys, not your coins!
Interesting topic; entirely missed it until now.

Right now, I am wearing a profile picture with https://bisq.network/ and https://walletscrutiny.com/ logos.
I try to give https://www.defendingbtc.com/ more exposure through my personal text, as well.

For promoting Bitcointalk threads, I have a 'Other recommended topics (not sponsored)' on my webpage, which can be found on my Bitcointalk profile: https://bitcointalksearch.org/user/n0nce-3373858

I believe this is the easiest way to do it; no coordination required and everyone can promote whatever they deem important and underrepresented.

BTC or BUST
I know that some people might consider this off-topic, but look at it from a radically different angle: If you want to advertise stuff for free, why don't you give your inputs on BIPs and upgrades to the Bitcoin Network? You are on a bitcoin forum after all, and it does not cost any money to do that.

You don't even have to be a developer or technically competent to participate in those discussions. The headlines and subjects of most of those initiatives are simple enough for the average user to understand.

I am seeing a major problem that is slowly growing bigger and bigger. It's that most people assume that since they don't understand how something works they think they can't give constructive feedback. This creates a loop, and eventually nobody else is talking about the proposals and they grind to a standstill. And it is not only limited to Bitcoin too, it can be seen in any software engineering space where further development depends solely on the advancements made by individuals around the world.

If you look in the archives of the "Development and Technical Discussion" forum and the bitcoin-dev mailing list, you can see that a lot of ideas have been proposed that have gotten literally no answer, and then the people who have proposed them have disappeared ever since. Simply because there is no dialogue!

The projects you guys are promoting are developed by small bands of people like you and I, and they also depend on feedback to keep going. If you shut off the feedback, one of two outcomes is going to happen: 1) it is going to die out or 2) if it is a more sustainable project it will become hardened by its own ideas to the point where it becomes a rogue project - and this has happened to quite a number of projects: From mixers and wallet software to mining pools [Hi Roger Ver] to even non-crypto projects such as Brave, some boffins wuld also include ElasticSearch (even Facebook and Google started with halos on their heads).

Or for an example that is closer to home, it isn't hard to see now a rift occuring in the network, because institutions and software are clinging on to old standards. Other people try to update these standards to improve the network, and get discouraged when nobody adopts them. Look at how many exchanges are still using Legacy addresses, for example.

This post isn't simply a wild biosphere of theory. I am making efforts right now to support the new address formats inside signed messages. But the problem I have is not a technical one, it's that nobody is giving feedback about anything. So how are people like me supposed to know if anybody agrees with the changes proposed?

So please, while you are busy making posts to meet your signature campaign quota, I urge you all to consider setting aside a few posts for constructive comments on these proposals. Remember, that the prices will only go up on the condition that Bitcoin-related work is further advanced.

Promotion will only be fruitful if corresponding amount of dialogue is made.

I read dev and tech at times but your right, I don’t comment because most of it is over my head..
Maybe I should even if my comments come from a poor understanding because it will bump threads and probably lead to me learning more from replies to me..

What I would really like to promote is more awareness of what can be done on Bitcoin through counterparty because it is so much fun to use and leads to so much use of Bitcoin..
Things that can be done on Bitcoin through Counterparty also has so much potential to bring market share back to Bitcoin from all of these other shitcoins promising smart contracts and tolkenization..
I want Bitcoin to lead these markets and it not just be thrown away to other shitcoins..

Last call to see if there are any more people who would be interested in promoting good bitcoin-related projects for free?
We have about 10 people right now.

After this, the next step will be to try and find some people who would be willing to share what we do over social media and someone who could create avatars and signatures.

First of all before I say yes, let me say, before we wear the signature, avatar and text in any campaign, we must know the kind of service rendering by the company because if we wear a particular signature and avatar and Personal text and in the process or later we discovered that the company has bad reputation. At that stage what will you do?

As for the free campaign train I will join it if I am not on any payment signature campaign, avatar and Personal text. Rendering free service is one my hobbies in the world. And also the campaign must be brought by a reputable user in the forum. I will not join if the person just registered and providing a service for to advertise for him or her. Therefore, let it be that the campaign is managed by a only user (s). Lastly, I am very much ready to promote any campaign that is for the benefit of bitcoin in the world and in Bitcointalk. If the above criteria are meant.

We currently have 9 people who have shown an interest in providing free promotion: Pmalek, Rizzrack, Mbitr, BitcoinGirl.Club, Z-tight, eddie13, Maestro75, ETFbitcoin, and Ucy. Approximately the same number of people are maybes depending mostly on whether or not they are in a signature campaign or not.

Is there anyone else?

I could also do this, now and then, for avatar + personal text, but with no strong commitment.

And while I guess that this means pretty much nothing, I guess that many others are in the same situation: if somebody start "managing" such campaigns, some of those having nothing better/more profitable to wear, would also think on this as a valid option, especially if they see reputable/trusted members wearing that.

(And yes, a campaign manager could be a must, as somebody keeping a close eye on how the advertised service is developing, and make sure people don't end up advertising scam).
