The decentralization does not seem very decentralized haha. That is why many Bitcoin veterans try to convince people that third party service are not trustworthy and you need to use pc or hardware wallet. Well, now your ID is being kept by XAPO and you can never become anonymous
This is the risk involved when we do make use of 3rd party apps or sites which they do really have the keys of our wallet which means we cant get any amount from that place once they blocked you and you cant do anything about it.Reading the thread, there are already lots of complaints on this things which they do blocked some accounts and didnt respond on its users once they sent a ticket.

It took me one day to get my account verified and I only provided my ID and Address proof. Your case was even worse but since Xapo is working on too many verification, the delay can be understood. But it's good that they atleast verify accounts and release the funds, while coinbase doesn't even do that. It's time to stop using 3rd party wallets as you need to provide proof to get our own funds back.

Still locked out.

I emailed support today:

"I submitted my account verification 5-05-17 and I'm still locked out of my money.

It was my understanding that this level of verification would take place at much higher dollar account.  I've earned $10 off affiliate pay and Xapo locked me out of my account without access of canceling to return my funds and demanded my Social Security number.

I'm request that you please give me access to my account to process my withdraw or verify my files submitted because we are well outside the 96 hour window.

Respectfully,"

I heard that from any other person who is also claiming that xapo often conduct that type of attempt that they lock their members accounts and then ask them to provide their identity documents and after they approve they reopen the account. I do not like that type of attempt because with that attempt we will lose the anonymity and I think it is not related to bitcoin feature to reveal the identity.

All I can say is, this is really weird.

Disregarding the main point of the concern, why the heck for $10 worth of amount? Currently I have an active account at XAPO in which my bitcoin transaction is regular and obviously all are above $10. Never had an experiencing with locked or freeze account same with Coinbase that's why I want to know where those violations of the others came from. My Moonbit affiliates is not that much for an average of $1 a month based on the current bitcoin price.

To OP, does they tell you the exact thing or reason why it was happened? At least it should have because if only for affiliates matters then that is really crazy.

Coinbase asks for information when buying and selling Bitcoins, but not when using the service as a wallet.
You sure? As far as I know Coinbase is monitoring every bitcoin transaction you made, they have history of suspending/freezing people's accounts if they notice inconsistency.
For them this inconsistency could be just big amount of BTC stored or transferred to your wallet. I bet they will be asking you where this bitcoin come from.
Coinbase is also strict regarding on implementing their TOS and you are correct once they see some unusual activity on your account they can freeze your account anytime and same with the case of OP I'm confused why they locked on the account with $10 on it? Its too small to consider and affiliate earnings don't really violate at all since its on legal way.

Nobody can be sure sites as big as Xapo are not selling your information. Unless you are making a transaction with Xapo themselves, KYC would not be necessary. Coinbase asks for information when buying and selling Bitcoins, but not when using the service as a wallet.

This reminds everyone that exchanges are not a wallet. Storing money in any type of exchange is asking for bad news. I'm going to follow up on this thread to see if Xapo will (slowly) but eventually release the held money.

they won't allow me to log into my account until I provide my social security #, ID scans, bills and all types of shit.
Yes, you need to clear verification process according to how much you have transacted with them. You can read more on their different verification requirements here : https://support.xapo.com/what-information-do-i-need-to-provide-to-have-a-xapo-account/view=faq

Once we reached next level of transaction history (I faced this when I have completed $3k worth of bitocin transactions with them), they will not allow us to log on. I had to wait 2 to 4 days, after that I got email from them, mentioning my access was enabled.

I have earned $10 of bitcoins through MoonBitcoin affiliate program and they are asking me all the top tier questions before I have access to my $10.

I understood what I was signing up for... what I don't understand is why they aren't following their own terms and freezing access to my funds.

I was not given the option to close my account and withdraw my funds either.

Xapo, Coinbase or other centralized service/wallet/exchange is bound to respect official AML/KYC law. Which is borderline idiotic at times.
They might have other local rules like ban or freeze your account because they find out you are using their wallet to send money to gambling services.
Bitcoin was invented exactly to battle this kind of situation where you account can be suspended by 3rd party service.
The only online wallet I know which never banned/froze/suspended an account is blockchain.info

It's better to avoid centralized services related to BTC here on the internet. First, they want to make you believe their service is very good, you have advantages when using it (no fees on transactions), but next, they start showing their real face. You need to start paying for transactions, you need to send them your personal informations... That is what happened until now, let's see what happens in the future.

Makes no sense to use centralized wallets for a decentralized currency.

Strange thing. Bitcoin amount, worth few thousand bucks cirulated on my Xapo account and they haven't asked my ID, bills, proof of address and etc. And now they as for all these details for just ten bucks recrived from faucet. Shame.
You agree to certain terms to which you have to conform with when using a service. What is the issue of providing ID to xapo? It is not that big of a hustle anyway.

Let alone, 10$ is not that much.
Give all your personal details for $10? I don't think that everyone want to do that.

Thank you for the link, now I understand why I had my xapo account got locked but I refused to submit them my documents as I was not having any balances with them when they started denying access to my wallet. (I just opened another wallet and used).

I guess it would be good for people to check the TOS before starting opening accounts with them. At least they should show some important TOSs while signing up with them. That will definitely prevent many hassles.

I thought i'm the only one who will think twice before uploading my identity to the internet even though for a trusted site. Well let me tell you about my story I was a xapo user I collected some bitcoins and save them out there mostly from faucet, and they locked my account I don't remember the reason why they locked my account i just felt that i didn't against their rules like gambling, scamming or something, Thanks God I didn't put all of my bitcoins out there, i should provide my identity to get my account back, no thanks xapo i'd never do that.

I am using xapo wallets for a very long time and i never had an issue regarding the verification of IDs as they never asked me till now. I am not sure why you are forced to do so.Did they change the terms of use conditions to enforce the verification and if so i am not aware of it,like to see if anyone facing these issues other than you.

Same with me, it is 2nd year using xapo but they never asked me for KYC till this time but I do not hope they will ask me for it later. If they ask me to do KYC then I would prefer to stop using their service.
