I'm curious that extremepool.org shows I have a Total Paid, but my wallet shows a zero balance after refresh.  It hasn't been very long, but my experience with XMR on a couple different pools was immediate.

I'm further curious as to why the block reward is not always 320000, but usually some much smaller amount.

if you don't understand why the block reward isn't always the same read the op or the white papers it is explained..
as far as not receiving coins yet once the pool pays them I have been told the block chain is taking an extremely long time to sync up.  I transferred some coins to poloniex earlier today and took about 6 hours.

Thank you for attempting to provide some answers, but I'm afraid my curiosity is not yet satisfied.  I found an obscure link in the OP, http://ducknote.org/aboutduckNote, and in it one obscure footnote that says the block reward can vary, apart from halving:  "*Supply chart has an accurate, but approximate values, because block reward for some blocks can be lower than base reward due the big sized block penalties."

That's not much of an explanation; a proper explanation would address why large blocks are penalized, what the reward variance can be, and how often it might be expected to happen.  By observation, the answer to both the latter two is "a lot".

You say "white papers"--could you perhaps provide more clues as to where additional writings reside?

As to block chain sync being the reason for non-existent or slow payment, I don't think so.  My wallet and the pool are reporting the same block height.  I think that extremepool is not actually paying out right now, and that it is likely not something nefarious, but rather that something is broken.

this has been explained in this thread but here it is againExplanation:

1. BLOCK_REWARD = BASE_REWARD(currently = 320000XDN) -  BLOCK_SIZE_PENALTY (Normal block should be < 32000, in other case block reward will be lower than expected)

Here is the block 8160:
https://minergate.com/blockchain/duck/block/b7239e7406e85a1e17965778c29d999fdc98fd2793d233f641b971280ea7628e

Block Size 91514 that is > 32000, because of 10 big transactions, so reward for that block is lower than expected. That is a normal situation for all CryptoNote coins.

as far as there being in thing wrong with the pool I can assure there is not anything abnormal that I am aware of, it takes time for the coins to appear in your wallet.

Just an FYI.  At 9 satoshis Ducknote already has a very pricey mkcap of near half a million.  Don't let the satoshis fool you into thinking Ducknote is cheap.

the other cryptonotes have market caps weeeelllll over a million

Not sure about that...
There are about 3 billion DuckNotes at 9 sats...
that's 270 BTC = $160,000... seems reasonably priced.

And since we have only traded about 30 BTC in volume...
I would give it at least a week before we have a meaningful price.

is it a copy of XMR?
the name is too simple, too young!
and xmr is a copy of bytecoin

But unlike xmr and bytecoin, ducknote has a 4 min blocktime, so it has fewer orphan blocks

Coins rarely are copies of each other, and I find it misleading when people use that term.  Whenever a "copy" is made, it is generally an improvement upon a coin, or another way of approaching a problem that the last coin was trying to solve.  In ducknote's case, the main change was the blocktime, ducknote sacrifices slightly faster transactions for fewer orphan blocks.
