so, how easy will merchant adoption be for cryptonote vs bitcoin?

I am dubious that Monero ever achieves mass merchant adoption.  It's use is further complicated and obfuscated compared to bitcoin.  The need for a payment ID is one thing.  I believe XMR stands a chance to be a better store of wealth than Bitcoin.  And by doing this frees bitcoin up to concentrate on being a currency.

That said, it COULD happen that Monero has success in merchant transactions.  Who can say?

It will be astonishing if there could be a way to side-embed this with bitcoin (decentralized), or at least conjugate their payment terminals to each other (centralizd). Any idea?

I recognize you from the nxt community. How long have you been involved here?
nice ROI

thats a little bit of an understatement. you may literally be a legit guinness book entry world record holder. Cheesy

anyway yea me too. this is my first foray since my involvement in nxt. cryptonote really seems promising and monero the most promising among them.
Unfortunately monero is a bit pricy now to buy a huge pack from, but I bought some..
Anyway for me this one is more of an interesting project to involve and follow than an investment vehicle.

I personally dont pay too much attention to price. I try to focus on everything else besides.

Not too much, about two weeks I guess. Unfortunately the nice ROI I got from Nxt made me left away from monitoring alt-scene for several months.

Sorry not impressed. The pace of checkins and the quantity of changes being checked in (I reviewed all those commits) is not at all impressive. In fact it seems downright slow. I've made my living coding and running dev teams and if I had a team that was only contributing that amount of code per week there would be some serious changes to the team. Seems like the devs are working on this like two hours per day or something. Time for a much bigger dev team. You guys should be actively recruiting, not turning away help as has been done several times in this thread.

Having more people on board is always better. As you're a software professional, I'm looking forward to your contributions :-)
Where do I find your repo on github?

No need for rapid development?
Show me one Coin github which is more active:
https://github.com/i2pcpp/i2pcpp/commits/master (i2p router c port)
https://github.com/mikezackles/bitmonero/commits/daemonize ("daemonizing" the daemon branch)
https://github.com/tewinget/bitmonero/commits/rocksdb (db implementation started - using rocksdb, a leveldb fork)
https://github.com/tewinget/bitmonero/commits/rpcwallet (rpc based wallet for exchanges/merchants etc)
https://github.com/Neozaru/bitmonero/commits/wallet_wrapper (high level gui api)
https://github.com/Neozaru/bitmonero-qt/commits/master (Qt based gui for monero)
... plus the sideprojects...

If you want to help, help with the GUI or come to monero-dev on freenode, we have tons of work.
Or if you want to speedup everything and cant help with code, theres a devfund address in the startpost.

Have you submitted any pull requests to the repository? If not, then maybe you should start contributing before accusing the devs of not accepting help.

Last I checked, the devs are not receiving a salary for their work. Would you like to step up and pay them to quit their day jobs and allocate all their attention to Monero?

do you own any yet? if not post an address.

Thx, I've just recently bought a few on Poloniex after some friends showed me to this thread about XMR.  We were all part of a KNC mining Group Buy where the administrator ran away with our money, but I've picked up some amazing contacts in the process.  We are still communicating in a brand new Skype Group, mainly raving about XMR's potential.

I've added tip addresses into my footer now  Wink

your xmr address isnt working for me and i dont think its a problem on my end because i tried sending some back to myself and it worked fine.

Please add me on skype @ thestatdude. We have a small XMR fan group as well.

Anon, can I earn some tips?  Wink

Well im not really giving tips per say. Its donations to people who are just getting interested but dont own any coins yet. I gave away 0.9 monero to like 10 people over on the nxtforum thread because i knew they would almost all be new Smiley. I could perhaps be persuaded to donate some nxt to you though since you would probably be new to nxt. You have to download the client though, no exchange addresses.

so, how easy will merchant adoption be for cryptonote vs bitcoin?

I dont think it would be any more challenging than it has been for the exchanges to start trading XMR. I suppose the only issue is that for them to make it work they have had to override some of the anonymity features in order to make their transactions traceable.

If anyone still don't think Monero will become the next big coin, just read the news: https://archive.today/KKAZH
no one that considers his privacy seriously can trust bitcoin to be totally untraceable, monero is the future, its inevitable...

Those who underestimate the value of privacy do it at their own peril, there is a huge market out there. I know it dragged me into MRO, and i otherwise had zilch interest in alt coins. Never owned one before this.

I am rotating a little of my gold (and i rarely ever sell) to MRO, something i didnt even do for BTC.

I dont know if it'll be MRO, Zerocash or something else, but a privacy-centric coin is the future.

Side note...why the ticker change ? Regardless if it was officially changed, let's stick to MRO with eachother. Smiley
