In the Quantity Theory of Money a constant money supply requires that the economy can grow only if the velocity-of-money circulation rises exponentially or the price level declines exponentially, neither of which are plausible for a healthy economy.

Correction:  Both of which are plausible inevitable in a healthy economy where the numeraire floats and money travels at the speed of light.  The sources of friction have been destroyed.

we can't have freedom without diluting the money supply. Selfish savers want their past efforts to be a perpetual friction on the backs of those new innovators. Rather a small, reasonable debasement (or demurrage) provides a balance to neutralize the parasitic rent that usury has on society.

The first and most obvious bogus assumption here is that savings bear interest.  This is so laden with non sequiturs that it makes me nauseous.  That's because he's trying to make a complex argument compactly.  Instead he's not really saying anything except expressing his tastes.  If the argument were unpacked, the numerous flaws could actually be addressed.  In this form?  Good luck.

Quote
Why are you so selfish as a saver that you don't want to pay 2.5% - 5% per year to fund the security of mining to keep it decentralized so the government can't come tax + confiscate 50+% of your savings? You know that even gold is debased at 2 - 2.5% per year.

False dilemma.  It's not even good rhetoric.  It's utterly abyssmal logic.  Why should I have to pay extortionate tolls for commodity services?  If you are going to socialize the cost of operating the currency (which is actually vanishingly small and not worth discussing) why socialize it inefficiently when you have an easy choice?  What does the accidental fact that gold is mined have to do with the point (if there is one)?  BTW gold mining is a diminishing return.  Bad example.  You don't have to compensate for destroying one class of rentiers by creating a new one.  There is no law of "conservation of rentiers".

Quote
Selfish people deserve the corporate top-down controlled fully compliant government's coin. Wink

Use of "selfish" here is political rhetoric using language taught to preschoolers in order to subvert mature ratiocination and critical thinking.  Yeah, those darn selfish people.  Drat them!  Even remarkably unselfish people may prefer not to see spurious taxes being assessed regressively without any corresponding benefit being derived.  With equal illogic one could deride selfish miners for taking excessive fees.  Neither approach is likely to aid in reasoning coolly about the issues.

Strange. Both 0.8.7 and 0.8.8 ("experimental") do this?

edit:

Here's a recent active peer list in case you wanna try to manually sync them with "bitmonerod.exe ----add-peer [address]":

Yes, both seem to do it. I'll try adding the peers in your quote above and come back with results.
EDIT: seems like it could be network, I'll try later in a public hotspot as well. Can't connect to any of the nodes

hey guys i need your help.

I wanted to test this coin and have mined a couple of moneros to two different adresses.
I used two different pools, and on this pools i can also see the paid amount.
But on my wallet the balance is still zero. I tried cryptonote wallet and simplewallet in different versions.

Furthermore im not sure if the blockchain is downloaded sucessfully, cryptonote wallet downloaded the blockchain
a couple of hours and is now saying "ready" but i dont know how to check that.

Any ideas of what i have done wrong ?

You're telling me you want an anonymous coin, that has high adoption, that perpetually increases in value, that is resistant to centralization and comes at no cost? Good luck.

Strawman much?   I think paying reasonably is reasonable, and paying unreasonably is unreasonable.

In a constant growth supply, price deflation doesn't occur unless the economy is growing.  If the economy is growing, the value of the reward is increasing, not remaining constant.

Dude, in crypto *the numeraire floats*.  The market adjusts it.  That's a good thing.

I want a coin which does not rob people of their savings, that is anonymous.  It will therefore be resistant to centralization. It will also inevitably have high adoption in that case, because it is what the species needs to escape the explosive trap of debt money.  The whole purpose of an anonymous coin is to protect against robbery and extortion.  Building robbery and extortion into the coin completely destroys its justification for existence.

Hey guys I have a question, what is the line you have to add inside the minerd batch in order to run spesific threads, instead of full cpu threads? ty!

Just   t-
ty very much kind sir!

bladetus , what do u mean? where do I put the --help? in batch?

You wouldn't put it in your batch file. You would type minerd --help in a command prompt.

eg. open command prompt

change to the correct directory

eg. cd c:\users\desktop\miner

then type minerd --help

can't get past initialization stage on win7 32bit. fails to connect to peers. latest client. anyone have a resolution?

Try deleting the peers list in the appdata/roaming/bitmonero folder

I noticed that lately the client take a while to sync too, using the old or new version, probably because it tries a long list of peers before establishing fresh and responsive ones.

does not seem to work. I deleted all files in that folder (simply moved them, in case they needed to be restored). client regenerates: blockchain.bin, p2pstate.bin, and poolstate.bin. still unable to get past initialization.

the 64 bit windows package has a git dependency that's unresolved, so i can't use that version (bitmonerod freezes)

here's a sample log output:

The daemon will start synchronizing with the network. It may take up to several hours.

You can set the level of process detailization by using command "set_log ", where is either 0 (no details), 1 (current block height synchronized), or 2 (all details).

Use "help" command to see the list of available commands.

Note: in case you need to interrupt the process, use "exit" command. Otherwise, the current progress won't be saved.

can't get past initialization stage on win7 32bit. fails to connect to peers. latest client. anyone have a resolution?

Try deleting the peers list in the appdata/roaming/bitmonero folder

I noticed that lately the client take a while to sync too, using the old or new version, probably because it tries a long list of peers before establishing fresh and responsive ones.

It appears most of the miners have upgraded their software to the latest version (0.8.8) or at least the latest fees schedule (5*19^9 AMU minimum).

Please upgrade your daemon and simplewallet to the latest github version if you have not within the past few days. Windows binaries were updated a couple of days ago on the front page and already have the new fees schedule. If you do not upgrade you run the risk of your tx not going through because it lacks the required fee.

I will likely merge 0.8.8 today.

Hey guys I have a question, what is the line you have to add inside the minerd batch in order to run spesific threads, instead of full cpu threads? ty!

Just   t-

You can use --help to see the available flags.  Smiley

I took a quick look at the code I think you just need to run multiple copies. Run it as many times as you want threads. Unless I missed something. Huh

Monero (XMR) - secure, private, untraceable
@Bladetus - just go to the first free row in the list and write the hash rate of your processor there.

I have problem running a wallet on OSX.

1. Downloaded the binaries linked in op.
2. Downloaded blockchain and put in ~/.bitmonero
3. Started bitmonerod and waited until message "You are now synchronized with the network. You may now start simplewallet. ...."
4. Started simplewallet and successfully created a new wallet. Run refresh command. Got this output:

Starting refresh...
Error: refresh failed: daemon is busy. Please try later. Blocks received: 0

Anyone have any ideas? Wanna buy monero but need to get this working first.

The blockchain you downloaded is few days behind. Wait it to sync, enter "save" in bitmonerod window and then enter "refresh" in the wallet.

It worked, thanks!

Any of you guys using an older processor to mine?
Just spent the better part of yesterday unlocking the 2 extra cores of my Phenom II 960T and overclocking it to the limit. Gives me a hashrate of over 20 H/s per core for a combined hashrate of about 120 H/s. Not too shabby for an old timer eh?  Roll Eyes

Wasn't there a spreadsheet about the hashrates of different CPUs somewhere?

Edit: Eh, too slow it seems.

Edit2: How should I add my CPU to the list BTW? It isn't listed on the webpage that you're supposed to link to, as an unlocked 960T is listed as "AMD Phenom II X6 1600T" in cpu-z and there is no processor on the market named like that.  Huh

A monero wallet includes only one address ?, so if I want to generate a second address do I have to give a different file name or there is a command to generate more addresses with the same keys ?.

Also I would like to check the size of my inputs, how do I do that ? is there an equivalent of listtransactions ?.

Cheers!.

1. One address per wallet file. However, this address does not appear on the block chain, instead a new address is generated each time. So if you want a new address for privacy purposes, you don't need to do that. If you want different addresses to use for different purposes then a separate wallet file is the way to go.

2. incoming_transfers

I want to group my coins to be able to send bigger transactions in case of need, do I need a second address for that or can I send the coins back to the same address ?.

Thanks.

Best to use a second one unless you can send the full balance of the wallet back to itself in one go. Otherwise you can't keep the remaining small ones from getting mixed up with the new bigger ones.

Got it, thank you!
