So he mentions using Diffie–Hellman key exchange, I thought that that was weak and easily attacked by large actors as well as MITM and easily backdoored as well. I really liked Anonimals competency of the principals involved though. It would ge interesting to have lunch with him to just gat a grip on what he's doing. I have not followed korvie at all.

Is this normal? Help a newbie here.

I created a monero wallet 2 months ago to start mining.

Now that I am almost being paid, I checked wallet adress, and it isn't what entered on pool miner configurations.

After some googling, I went to https://xmr.llcoins.net/addresstests.html both are valid monero adresses, but suposedly "Netbyte + 10" should be the same and it isn't.

What am I missing?

Thanks.

Which wallet did you use to generate an address?

AFAIK, the only wallet I created 2 months ago...

EDIT: no wait, I did create another wallet on my laptop. I really don't know why. I just restored the original wallet from backup.

People, do backup your wallets. I was already sweating trying to understand this.

Good to hear you managed to resolve your issue.

I just downloaded the monero desktop wallet.  can i deposit to the address given to me while the blockchain is still syncing, or do i need to wait for the syncing to complete? thanks

Yes, but you won't see the funds until you're fully synced.

Lot of people are talking about Monero for next year to be its time. I also have started in small numbers to buy as some of the tokens I hold see some increase. I think there is still enough time to grab steadily easy by easy some decent amount of the coins.

hi. my ssd is running out of memory. how can i transfer the blockchain to another drive?

You can use a symbolic link on Windows too.
Close the daemon, move the folder with the blockchain (probably C:\ProgramData\bitmonero) to the new drive and open an elevated command prompt in C:\ProgramData and use this command to create the link:
Code:
mklink /D bitmonero D:\bitmonero
... assuming you moved the bitmonero folder in the root of the D: drive.
I strongly recommend using an SSD for storing the blockchain.

2018: The Year of Monero?

By Max Bibeau | USA

While 2017 has undoubtedly been the year of Bitcoin, with prices skyrocketing tens of thousands of dollars, 2018 may have different surprises in store. What really made 2017 important for Bitcoin, is that it became a household name. Instead of being a niche, nerdy technology, it became something that grandparents texted their kids about asking how to get involved.

2018 will absolutely bring more name recognition and price rockets for Bitcoin. However, Bitcoin may not be the biggest winner. Monero may see huge gains, both in price and adoption, as Bitcoin continues to face centralization issues and high fees.

Monero, founded in 2014, prides itself on being the most private, decentralized currency on the market. It is currently listed 8th by market cap, at about 3,800,000,000 USD. Its price is about $250 at the time of writing.

Monero treats privacy as the most important factor for a successful cryptocurrency – and as legislation continues to be proposed to Congress regarding the legality of cryptocurrencies, this could be very important. Monero assures users that they use the “latest and most resilient encryption tools available” in order to ensure all transactions are as anonymous as possible.

With a current supply of 15,449,232 XMR, it’s also incredibly undervalued compared to currencies like Bitcoin. It also has an interesting system regarding the total supply. Instead of capping at 21 million coins like Bitcoin, once 18.3 million XMR are in circulation, Monero will only be created at a rate of about 0.3 XMR per minute. This is meant to ensure miners continue to profit. In this scenario, the first year that the original Monero supply runs out, only about 1% of the existing supply will be introduced into the circulating supply. And every year after that, the percentage will continue to decrease, but never reach zero. This ensures that unlike Bitcoin, Monero miners won’t have to raise fees in order to turn a profit after the maximum supply runs out.

2017 was already a solid year for Monero – going from $13.79 in January to now peaking at $278.66 this year. The graph follows similarly the graph of Bitcoin in its 2014 years.

Even outside of price, Monero has seen increasing adoption this year, and it will likely increase next year as well. Black market dealers have started to catch on to Monero’s anonymity and have begun accepting it often. This is extremely important, as the black market is where Bitcoin got its start as well. It’s only a matter of time before white and grey market shops begin to adapt as well.

So, while 2017 was the year of Bitcoin, it’s likely that 2018 will be known as the year of Monero.

Hello Monerians,

https://moneroForCash.com (MFC) is now free. You can post adverts to buy or sell Monero for free.

As always, MFC:

  • Doesn't use JavaScript
  • Doesn't use search company analytics
  • Requires no ID or email to register or use
  • Does not share or sell user information

Additionally, the site is now owned by u/tficharmers. He did the awesome UI redesign a few months ago. I will continue in a support role as needed.

The email for the Contact Us form is still being set up so please bear with us. This does not affect internal messaging for adverts, which is working, as are email alerts if you entered your email (optional) on your Settings page.

We hope you enjoy the site!

Bitcoin, despite being the largest currency in market value and the most popular, has a number of platforms that accept it somewhat limited.
Several important musicians, in addition to many online stores, have come to accept Monero as a form of payment. At the moment, about 45 artists accept payments with the digital currency, among them are: Weezer, Slayer, Dolly Parton, Mariah Carey and Marilyn Manson. According to G-Easy, famous American rapper, Monero is the safest and most privacy-friendly crypto-coin available on the market. In addition, five online stores will also accept payments with Monero as of this week, and good discounts will be provided to those who choose to use the digital currency.

I have a question.

I got 2 identical 750ti cards, asus 750ti OC 2GB, same bios version, same identifier number, same memory frequency, same cpu frequency, both not overclocked, exactly the same drivers, fixed 40% fan settings, same xmr-stak-nvidia settings, same GPU-Z info, both have an external power connector to the same psu, one is in slot 3 of my ASRock BTC and the other in slot 6, the screen is on another slot.

The difference: one has Samsung and the other has Hynix memory. The Samsung voltage reports 1156mv@50degC and the Hynix 1200mV@42degC. The Samsung get's stock 243 Hs and the Hynix 220Hs. Samsung reports 55% TDP, Hynix 45% TDP. When overclocking cpu/mem I can get the Samsung up to 295Hs and the Hynix only to 250Hs (and still I did not find a stable OC for the Hynix one). But even at the stock/same frequencies the hashrate difference is like 10%.

Could this be because of the memory type? Or should I check my motherboard/risers/psu?

Different DRAM chips have different access timings, resulting in different latencies when accessing the memory. These latencies are not really exposed in gaming workloads so OEMs can sell cards under the same name but equipped with memory chips from different suppliers.

For mining though, these latencies matter and result in very different hashrates for cards that otherwise seem identical.
