Monero is a big cap project that doesn't mean it is also the best privacy coin project, in terms of technology young projects like Ryocurrency(RYO) are far better and worth looking at. The first thing that I don't like about monero is, Emissions, how is it possible to mine 40-50% coins in the first year when difficulty was extremely low, and not many people know about monero. While on the other hand RYO is a small project but did considerable work on emissions and introduce 'Plateau Curve' to keep and emission scheme fair for early and late miners, RYO emissions are almost the same as BTC.
This is 2020 and privacy coins with better tech are only going to survive in the long-term.

Hi Crypto Friends :)
Is Exolix is partnered with the XMR team?

Monero Devs as a Core team do not partner with anyone, once in a while they will help a project with integration.

Anyone claiming affiliations that the dev team is partnering with them is scamming.

The closest thing is Globee which is designed to be built upon the Monero Eco system and has some Dev involvement.

Ah I see, saw that and was a bit curious. Thanks for the clarification Smiley

A recent presentation from the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation, or FBI, shows ransomware hackers have pilfered massive amounts of Bitcoin (BTC) since 2013.

Between October 2013 and November 2019, victims paid roughly $144 million in BTC to ransomware hackers, FBI supervisor Joel DeCapua indicated at a Feb. 24 RSA conference.

There are people who will always help, because they are good people.

But its just an open source project.

If you contribute good stuff your recommendations will naturally carry more weight.

Get involved if you can. Help everyone and raise the watermark.

Its about time I did something tbh lohg ago since I did the whirlwind missives. Im thinking of some yt videos on chart action.

Google Monero coffee chats to meet some of the guys doing good stuff.

Eventually all countries will mine top crypto currencies.

I am not convinced why a country would mine crypto, especially Bitcoin.
For a country it can be way more profitable to invest big in some crypto and then play with the market. As a whale it can create quite some waves and profit from them.

A country banned from the international market may mine anonymous coins indeed. But buying the necessary amounts of hardware may not go unnoticed. So I'd stick to the whale idea.

That's a pretty interesting read, I can see how the privacy features can be pretty useful for North Korea. Although not just North Korea, I think it can be pretty valuable for virtually everyone that's getting into crypto, especially with the Ring Signatures to hide activity
It was discussed on reddit almost 2 weeks ago: https://www.reddit.com/r/Monero/comments/f3hxqo/meta_please_investigate_fake_news_before_posting/

If we forget that 10 time increase that manly come in headlines from this report and was no data shown so we would see how they calculated that.  More important is that actually country is mining Bitcoin and Monero. Eventually all countries will mine top crypto currencies. They will make serious research which. And wil fro sure not mine such that will not exist 10 years latter.

Thanks for the advice. Should I try and prune the chain on the old wallet and sync the old wallet or should I download directly the new wallet without taking care of which block height on the chain the old wallet has reached? I hope I have explained myself properly...

Sorry, someone else will have to answer this I'm not up on the particulars. You should pm @dEBRUYNE if he doesn't see this question.

I stopped running a node quite awhile ago.

Thanks for the help. @dEBRUYNE has helped me out and everything has ben solved. Basically for now I didn't download the new wallet but just moved the blockchain from the laptop's hard drive to an external hard drive and redirected the Blockchain in my wallet towards the external hard drive.

Monero is a big project but big is not always good, a small project like RYO which is the next big competitor of monero fix all the flaws that monero failed to do in Cryptonote protocol.
Monero need competitors to give their team more motivation to build up their protocol stronger. I don't agree with you that the RYO is a 'next big competitor' and it has fixed (or tried to fix) all (all ?) the flaws of Monero.

monero Emissions are the worst emission scheme in the crypto space they have mined 40% of coins in the first year when difficulty was low there and later on they dump all those coins which result in quick fall from $400 to 70$
What happened with people who bought at cheap? Did they sell their cheap coins at cheap price? Most of them did it. How many bitcoin investors bought it at a-few-cent per bitcoin sold it around $19k, and how many of them have enriched their total bitcoin so far?

while small project like RYO focuses on the things that monero promised us as a privacy coin, Privacy, security, decentralization, and fairness.
So, when it comes to privacy coins I go for Ryocurrency instead of monero because I believe in quality not in quantity and we all know only quality can survive in the long-term.
It is the topic for Monero, and not the place to promote for RYO.

When it comes to privacy coins, I still think that XMR is king considering that it has a long and proven track record of privacy

For time tested coins like monero to receive their due laudation from an investor, there needs to be an uptick in judicial activity or malicious event with all-encompassing consequences, maybe a hack or change in regulations to persuade people to seek alternatives to available privacy options. When theres a great furore and sky is falling, people want a safe way to transact their money.

Hi guys I have a problem with downloading the new GUI wallet. I would like to update my GUI wallet which has not been updated for over a year but unfortunately my GB storage is full (120GB storage mostly used already by Monero Blockchain and around 30GB operating system). I don't know what to do since I would need more space on the disk. Do you have any suggestions? If i buy a new laptop and download the new GUI wallet and Monero blockchain is there a way I can open directly my wallet on there? Thanks a lot in advance

Prune the chain.
