I briefly saw a headline the other day saying there were now 4 versions of Monero after the fork, can someone explain wtf happened?

Are any of these forks viable, have wallets, and devs, and miners, on exchanges etc

Latest scheduled Monero hard fork changed POW algorithm to break hidden ASICs, ASIC companies and people who paid $12000 for a now useless ASIC forked the chain (4 times).

Only 1 appears to be traded on an exchange.

To be clear there was only one chain fork. There are several different projects all claiming to be the 'official' project representing the old chain.

Haha, true that - I could have made it clearer ... current Monero dev team is very open and transparent about decisions and development; I'm sticking with the Monero (v7) chain

Is there a list of which specific ledger wallets will support this? I'd hate to get one and find out later it didn't. Smiley

I read somewhere that for starting it will only be the ledger Nano s

I'm like 72% sure that any nano s apps can also run in ledger blue.

Only Nano S to start with.

Overall, Monero got lots of positive press and videos and everything now with changing mining algorithm.  More people that got in crypto in 2017 will now look at Monero. I bet all metrics of Monero went up ( google searches, reddit subs, ...) Such things are not seen on price immediately but gradually over time.

Yea. Confirmed. Big boost. https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?q=monero

NICE, good call Febo and thx for the link I always forget about that. I find it interesting when broken down by region as well. China is way up there, I like that. Smiley

BTW this makes me smile. Cheesy

There is a term they say in football which I always think to myself about crypto. Form is temporary, class is permanent. And if you look at those Google charts all the while, you still see Monero moving up even after the big announcements in 2016. Bitcoin Cash? They throw money around, pump up and hype up at events. Give it all over the place to corporate suits. And still they get a big "Meh" from people.

Thanks for the post Febo!

Yup, I had to look that one up!

But this cannot be applied to software as class is not permanent with an ever evolving design. Tongue

But I get your point. Wink

But evolving design is classy. His point stands.     Grin Cool Tongue

As I understand it the Nano S and the Blue will both support it.  This has been talked about on reddit /r/monero some.  If you want I'll try to hunt up a link.

Monero Confirms Ledger Wallet Support is Ready to Go
http://bitcoinist.com/monero-ledger-wallet-next-update-spagni/

Privacy-focused altcoin Monero (XMR) is set to receive official support from cryptocurrency hardware wallet manufacturer Ledger, lead code maintainer Riccardo Spagni has confirmed.

I know there has been delays in this but its better they take the time they need. Nothing would be worse then if they put out a product like this with flaws.

I somehow thought that since the mining has become cheaper, the price will start dropping for a while.

As a counter: When a miner gets more XMR per kWh, it needs to sell less XMR to cover the electricity costs.

It all depends whether said miner wants XMR or fiat or...
price seems to be on a downward trend though.

It'll tick up when BTC starts dropping again.

I'm curious if the profitability due to the recent fork pushed down prices due to miner movement?
Said another way - a good chunk of ETH hash moved over to XMR while it was more profitable. Assume they mined and instantly sold to BTC to buy either more eth or a coin of their choosing.

I would say the biggest pressure on mining profitability has just been forked away and that is why we have seen such a bear market since january coupled with the overall scene's bubble. Without the ASICs I would think Monero would have held it's price v/s USD during the overall decline.

I wonder if anyone has calculated how much they have taken from the market cap these last 3 months. I am of course assuming that they were selling all along the way as well, which my be completely off.

I have been analyzing the Monero chart and according to analysis, XMR has remained at $163 for the last hour, the triangular support line. The current price is above the support line and can rise to the $ 175 resistance line. Also, since the 100 SMA trend is lower than the 200 SMA trend, the support line is likely to collapse and the price is likely to be between $ 163 and $ 200. I expect a breakout from here.

I somehow thought that since the mining has become cheaper, the price will start dropping for a while.
But nothing dramatic has happened on the markets and from what I read here the price has a good chance to actually rise. I wish you guys are right.
