Note the unconventional cAPITALIZATION!

Sorry to snap us back to topic. Wink

But now that bitcoin is doing it's best resurrection act and alts are shrinking... what do you guys see for the future price action of our beloved coin?

I hate watching the XMRUSD just hold, or slowly drop under these circumstances...  What normally happens?   Do we see a springboard after the BTC rise?  Why can't I remember.  It's not like I haven't been through this 1000 times.

After attempting to sync it on my laptop I decided it is time to put linux on it. Couldn't be happier with my decision...
My laptop just crashed as I was reading this post, kind of ironic don't you think? (still using windows 10)

I've been on and off trying to duel boot Debian with Windows, but every time I've tried it ends up in some sort of error or the installation freezes. I've installed it on computers and VMs before, so I'm beginning to think it's a hardware issue; especially since no other distros are having better luck on it either.

Personally getting away from advertised spyware (read the windows fine print) entirely is a must.  I even wiped W10 off of a HP notebook for my mom and installed Ubuntu.  Works great.  Simplicity is sometimes it's own benefit!

several mobile non-custodial wallets to choose from if you don't want to use the native wallet or a web wallet.  GUI on windows is... not great, requires patience.  Linux it is smooth and fast.

Ditto.  I finally got my Puri.sm laptop a couple weeks ago.  Love it.  Solved all of the annoying GUI lag.  Hardware helps, but Windows is such a tar pit, it's amazing anything works on it.

In regards to the moneroV scam, if I do nothing to claim my moneroV from my web wallet, will my privacy for monero be effected? Thank you.
Perhaps marginally if enough other people make claims but much much less than if you claim yours.

The Monero blockchain is becoming very large, i wonder how big it will become in around 5 years time when Monero has mass adoption on the darkweb. Hardware wallets cant come soon enough either and will drive the price of XMR up high Smiley

I think that the developers will solve this problem. The coin is very popular, but it needs to be constantly improved so that users do not switch to other similar coins. Now Monero occupies a leading position among private coins.

In the U.S. SEC Rule 15c3-3 limits rehypothecation. Broker-dealers can rehypothecate collateral up to 140% of the amount of the loan to the posting client.

In the U.K. it is unbounded AFAICT. So of course multinational banks just move it all into a City office.  Regulatory arbitrage FTW!

Precisely. I'd love to know the year where infinite monero exist  Roll Eyes

Year ∞.  Which is ∞ years after the heat-death of the universe is posited. As to where, I would suggest the conformal point at  ∞.

How accurate is this youtube video's content on the debt-based money system and the enslavement of people?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fKob3fGSm9o

Ok so at 3:42 he kinda has it wrong here. They wouldn't loan out 9 billion by using 1 of the 10 billion as reserve. The 10 billion would be the reserve and they would loan out 90 billion.

At 4:33 It's true that if everything works flawlessly they can rehypothecate base money deposits over and over again up to some theoretical limit but that never really happens. Eventually someone withdraws cash and it gets interrupted. That might explain another reason why certain people and groups hate cash so much. Cheesy

"Inflation is essentially a hidden tax on the public." Kinda. It's more a hidden tax on the subjects of our empire. It hides from the american public that the US empire is an empire by obfuscating the flow of funds. In the past empires would just go to foreign lands and say give us your gold or we'll cut ya. But that is politically untenable in the modern world. So the inflation of the dollar is the means by wich we transfer funds from our subjects to our homeland. If any of our vassal states interrupt this process in any way than we do send the military to fuck them up but the state tells the public that it's for humanitarian reasons. That's how modern empire works.

So then it might occur to you to ask how does inflation transfer funds from vassal states to the US homeland. Other countries are forced to hold USD reserves. As their purchasing power is inflated away they are forced to buy continually more. In order to get more they send us products and resources. Oil is the biggest thing. That's why we have such cheap gas in the us compared to other places and such an abundance of cheap chinese products. So yes some of our purchasing power is inflated away too but the american people are largely the beneficiaries of this also.

With regard to the question of the inability to create non interest bearing money to pay interest on previous debts. The fed has a tool called an "open market operation". The fed doesn't HAVE to buy t-bills with the money that it creates. It doesn't HAVE to buy debt instruments. It can buy what ever it wants. If it buys equities (stocks) for example than it is creating new money to buy an asset not a debt. There is no money owed on this newly created money. In theory this could be used to pay the interest on debt.

Truthiness 7/10. All the stuff about commercial banks rehypothecating money over and over again is true and important. And the fed does buy a lot of t-bills. There probably doesn't exist enough money in the system to pay all the debt, that is probably true. But the fed could create it if it wanted through open market operations. So it's not quite as dire as it makes it sound in some ways. It's right in that it is a giant purposely complex scheme designed to be unintelligible to all but the initiated and rob the world of it's prosperity. I would call it true enough.

Yes I can tie all that to a monero speculation thread. All that nonsense up there is part of why monero is such a great value proposition!

guys i want to ask you a question? Why is still so damn hard to use Monero wallets? I've spent literally 2.5 day to recover some funds I had in an old wallet.
Do you prefer any much practical method for that?

Use a remote node if you don't have a synced blockchain.  Restore from a block height not much older than the wallet for a quicker scan.  Should take no more than minutes if it is not a very old wallet.
thanks for your assistance, i will try this method in future.

one more question

I gave half of my Monero to a close friend but so far it is still sitting in the same wallet that I originally set up. Can I create another wallet on the same machine and if I do then how can I transfer half of the XMR to him. Should I transfer it all in one go or would it be more sensible to make multiple smaller payments?

I think if you set different name it will make new fresh wallet.

Always is important that you store safely mnemonic seeds (those 25 words password) that you get. From old wallet and from this new one.   With them you can open your wallet at any time on any machine.

If you somehow lost mnemonic seed of your old wallet. And you are afraid you would rewrite old wallet with newly created one you can do this backup.  Find wallet files and made a copy of them on your desktop before you are opening new fresh wallet. Walet files are usually stored on C:Documents\Monero

there is a significant transaction size reduction in/after testing and ready for a practical roll out soontm.

It needs some serious work to take place because it must be robust and thoroughly guerilla tested. From concept up.

I use a Chromebook with galliumos, which is a distro based on xubuntu made especially for Chromebooks.  And I replaced the 32 Gig ssd with a 128 Gig ssd.  No dual booting, just linux.  I've had dual boot machines in the past but for my cheap, efficient little acer c720p Chromebook it's linux all the way and cli monero daemon and wallet that run like a dream.

Crypto is the separation of Power and State.

'Bitcoin is dead/dying' FUD being spread by Aminorex.

...they own up to their most massive counterfactual mistakes and perhaps explain to their flocks how/why they managed to get it so wrong.

Yeah, the fee crisis is over, for now at least, and whether it will repeat I am not now competent to speculate.  I should learn to keep my mouth shut when I am not following current events.  I was quite wrong about s2x, because core was able to act while I was expecting even more stagnation. That error, again, is attributable to neglecting the current available information about the internal dynamics of core. I was also quite wrong about Bitcoin Cash, which has far exceeded my expectations.  I don't even know enough to say why.

Once you know something well, you can make more reasonable projections than before, but if you don't stay up-to-date on the most important factors, in a dynamic environment, that potential degrades rapidly.  My takeaway is to remember to check whether my info is still pertinent rather than repeating old conclusions without updating.  I have done it before, so shame on me for not learning from it then.  It is easy to get cocky and sloppy after a few wins, and a hard reality check is good for the soul, focusses the mind.  So thanks for pointing it out.

Frankly I am not paying enough attention to classic crypto lately for anyone to hang on my words about it.  I try to get the big picture, but my detail attention is currently consumed by lawyers and web plumbing for a CEF.  C'est la guerre.

Great post!  All my concerns regarding previous underestimation of Bitcoin's antifragility were thoroughly addressed.  You've succinctly and unquestionably reestablished yourself as the brilliant thought leader of our little MEA brain trust.

The crypto market is based around events that generate hype. Whenever something noteworthy happens a coin gets a big boost, else it just slowly rises or does nothing.

That said, there hasn't been a noteworthy event for monero recently, the next event will probably be the hardware wallets followed by open source wallets, bulletproof and lastly kovri.

The crypto market, like any other, is based on supply and demand.  Price moves quickly when the balance between supply and demand changes quickly, and slowly when it does not.  Fear and greed are two labile forces which play a significant role in supply and demand, but their lability makes their effects transient, while economic uses and emission rates are typically more gentle but always more persistent forces in determining the trajectory of clearing. PoW difficulty has an intermediate persistence/lability and is a feed back link between supply flow constraint and clearing price, which reinforces systemic momentum.  PoS systems simpliciter lack this specific form of feedback, but master node systems add back a near analog.  "Hype" plays a role in accelerating greed, while "FUD" does likewise for fear.

It is really a differential-algebraic system with complex component nodes.  The dynamics of the system as a whole are not hard to model (except numerically, due to awful condition numbers) but some of the more complex component nodes have a lot of latent structure which needs to be elucidated in order to make the predictive value of such a model quantitatively and quantifiably useful.  Specifically the allocations of holdings and preferences amongst market agents needs to be sufficiently defined.

The nice thing (and the awful thing) about models is that, like standards, there are so many too choose from.
