Transactions stabilizing at a higher rate (only 5 days of October remaining, on track for 20-30% increase over ATH monthly transactions despite the fork wobble, and already well into a new record) hash rate seems to have found a lower equilibrium around the pre-spike area of +1.5Gh/s.  $price doesn't seem interested in going much lower.  All in all,  barring a huge BTC spike, I'm losing confidence in the downside, short term.  The ham fisted buys on binance from time to time keep pumping.  My interest in clearing a little spending money @ $200CAD is waning as we work the 170-180 range  Tongue  Might just wait for $ATH.  Or $2kCAD #johnalan   Grin Grin

Hex officially passed moneros marketcap: https://nomics.com/  I mention it on here because this shit was free to claim if you owned bitcoin back nn december 2nd and over $3billion worth of bitcoin signed a message with their address to freeclaim.

Don't get me wrong i still think monero is solid but hex has gained me so fucking much this year instead of the measly monero gains.

Enjoy your gaynz.

I'll continue to enjoy my sound money.

yeah the price of monero now on two years high https://www.coindesk.com/monero-2-year-high
hopefully this up trend will continue and we will see the rise on privacy coins in the near time

Couldn't agree more. I never really understood how other privacy coins keep getting love but Monero's always the quiet one, almost to my uneducated observation the Bitcoin of the alts. Just working and improving, and getting stronger in fundamentals. Once Bitcoin people (those who ignore all the noise trading) make up their minds about privacy, it's Monero all the way.
There's a saying in Russian "Money likes silence". Maybe this should be Monero's motto?

I firmly believe XMR is undervalued after working with it on FreeBitcoins.

If Bitcoin is $13k.... XMR should be $1k-$5k IMO.  I think that is lowballing it too.

People coming into Bitcoin are actually all mostly going to be XMR's in the future.

It's a better choice for most people who are interested in "Bitcoin".

I agree, though I think there are too many weak hands to ever see Monero > 1KUSD.

Though I think we will probably see XMR/BTC at 0.008 with BTC at 50K some day, so say 400usd for XMR.

FWIW I've held from 7usd to 480usd and back.

So it's all over.  The ATH is well above any chance of a new ATH.  Ever.  Might as well shut down development.  A lot of people putting a LOT of effort into something that will never succeed.  Too bad, things were looking good.  Clearly we are all better off trading for BTC here and now for ~0.01 BTC/XMR.   Oh.  You first.  Roll Eyes

Some people just like living with regrets.  Still don't get it when I read idiotic comments like this from people who have been lurking around since single digit prices.

Ever? Really? I am totally positive Monero will be worth $10k in this decade. Not consider USD inflation. Lets say I am positive that Monero will be worth 5 oz of Gold in this decade.

Agreed.  I've sent myself an email reminder for December 31, 2029 to see if we're right.  I feel like stashing away a bottle of Barolo right now...

Have you ever wanted to sponsor students going to school to focus their education around cryptocurrency and blockchain technology?

Have you ever had Bitcoin or Bitcoin Cash that you wanted to donate to a 501c3 non-profit to get it off of your balance sheet?

Check out https://www.magicgrants.org/ which is a non-profit that distributes scholarships to undergraduates who express an interest in cryptocurrency. No, we don't accept Monero (yet). But, if you have Bitcoin or Bitcoin Cash this is a noble way to separate yourself from it while supporting college students that are interested in cryptocurrency.

Both Monero and Bitcoin are destined to go up this and most likely whole next year. Swings down as Monero had last two days will for sure happen but general trend will be up. I dont see any other way. Number of transactions will be by far highest in October, no matter the protocol upgrade bad two days. Emission inflation is at 1.58%. That is just like Gold. Everything under $200 for all year high does not sound nice.

Especially whales who have been forced to keep funds frozen in their wallet to avoid detection.

That's funny and true. I know a guy who apparently has hundreds of bitcoins looking to get into monero without raising attention to his old wallet! He's already converted several btc but he wants to exchange much more. I'm not really sure his best course of action...?

Sounds similar to institutional investors that want to buy some stocks without drawing too much attention too early. You do it little by little over weeks or even months.

They need to buy OTC. You will hard find any OTC where you dont need to KYC. But it is the only way to buy big amounts without moving market drastically.

You can trade crypto-to-crypto on Bitfinex without kyc.  Your friend will need to use a vpn if he's in the U.S. to make it look like he's not.

Cool. I'll suggest he look into it but if he can wait however long, atomic swap would be a nice option (!). But I have told him his old bitcoin should be nice and "untainted". He wants to buy something big with it, like a house, but not have it tracked back to his old wallet. It's not really my problem, lol, so I haven't researched it very hard.

What I don’t understand is what happens if someone wants to swap let’s say100 BTC in Monero, but no one else puts up 100 BTC worth of Monero to swap... where does it swap then? And does that Bitcoin just end up being locked until the swap is terminated?
I think in that case the atomic swap market price will go up until supply/demand match. There will be a premium over regular exchanges.

Edit: the original swap will fail with both sides retaining their coins.

For example, if you, as an end-user, want to acquire monero and have bitcoin, you'll launch a swap client that connects to a swap daemon, and connects to a counterparty that has monero and is looking to trade them for bitcoin at an agreed upon price. The swap client will give you an address where to move your bitcoin and, at the end of the swap, the swap client will display the monero key-pair to import into your wallet. You now own monero. If at some point the swap is canceled for any reason, your bitcoin will be refunded at the address you chose, making this exchange trustless.

Wow, I hadn’t thought about that use case yet. There could be a second market with a way higher XMR/BTC rate swapping for potentially dirty bitcoins.

Emission is already below Bitcoin’s and the deficit is only going to increase over the short term. With atomic swaps coming soontm and a steep learning curve for properly using coinjoin, I think you may be underestimating the demand for a truly private/fungible currency. Especially whales who have been forced to keep funds frozen in their wallet to avoid detection.
