Windows users are reporting problems with the GUI on GitHub. The article at Bitcoin Magazine reporting only 2% adoption of Monero on AlphaBay was lower than expected.

Windows user here ... having no issues at all. Restored wallets, created wallet, sent funds, received funds, all good so far. Can you post a link to the issues others are having ?

same here, just did a first purchase from the GUI... went perfect...

with me same. I was actually surprised syncing uses so little of my memory. from 100-150kb so i can do on my 4 years old computer other things while syncing,  that i can never do when syncing Bitcoin or Ethereum wallet.

Lol @ all you guys dissapointed about the pump but not saying any word about the gui.

pfui!
one day you will realize that it can not pump because we have too many of you parasitic free riders on board allready.

in the meantime we have real users enjoying their new tool Smiley

This is the 'speculation thread' you know? Not the 'let's blow smoke up ourselves' thread. Just because some of us would like to see xmr go up in value, that does not make us 'parasitic free riders' - especially those of us who have contributed hundreds of xmr in response to calls to fund core development projects.

And yes, very happy with the gui  Grin

A couple of hours after gui release and the price is back to what it was yesterday. Was hoping for a bit more of a bump up....

I understand, but look at poloniex, XMR is the only green in a sea of red...

ok except for the ZEC-scam... but that's just another bounce in the ugliest bear I have ever seen IMHO...

best regards

EDIT: I can see now .. 1 user has raised an issue.
TBH I was quite pleased to read the BM article :

https://bitcoinmagazine.com/articles/alphabay-comments-on-bitcoin-congestion-monero-adoption-and-zcash-possibilities-1482345512

Highlights issues with BTC, and the 2% of business, not offers, is a good start IMO, especially pre GUI and RingCT

Yes I expected also more, but I hope the GUI will bring users to Monero that otherwise would not use it which brings higher price in form of organic growth.
Bear in mind, a couple days ago Monero was also 0.011 without released GUI.

Now I wish there were businesses (which actually are something people in general are interested in using) where you can spend Moneros directly without hassle of xmr.to (which sometimes is out of use).

But GUI is here to stay. It will never get depleted.

I know sometimes those things totally not connected. But I think now the reason is obvious.

So, does anyone know of any hedge funds investing in BTC and possibly Monero or any ETFs that may be holding some Alts?  If so, they could become rather large buyers in the market even if they only take a "miniscule" position.

ICONOMI should.

But not sure when will start buying let me check.

This seems most recent info: https://medium.com/iconominet/iconomi-cryptocurrencies-index-icnx-21-december-2016-rebalancing-transformation-into-iconomi-8e31e48493ab#.g0efk16yb
Altho I am not sure when they start buying. 28th December maybe.

In their ICO they gathered 10 millions USD to much which was planed to put into 2 founds, one for new ICOs named ICONOMI.performance fund
1. Actively-managed ICONOMI.performance fund launched on 13 November 2016
With its first investment into Golem ICO, on 13 November, 2016, we launched our actively-managed ICONOMI.performance fund. The fund, which holds over $4M of assets, plans to invest in 3–5 new ICOs in the coming months. To prevent speculation, investment details will be announced after their respective ICOs close. Currently, ICONOMI is the sole investor into ICONOMI.performance, therefore all realised profits will directly benefit ICONOMI shareholders.

So 6 millions USD should be left for  ICONOMI.index. Plus what will be gathered when platform opens n 28th December and attract new investors.

But I still had not found any info, when they plan to start buy. If they will do it idiotic way might move prices a bit.

Another chart for Kurious.
This shows the price for BTC (dark line) and XMR (light line) between Nov 23 to Dec 22 on two hour interval - the data is from BTCWisdom and I have overlayed the prices to demonstrate my point.

And my point is that while on a day to day basis XMR is responding to BTC movements, over the longer term it is actually holding its value pretty well and far better than any other alts (although I'm open to correction).

Edit: Chart hidden to save space.

Ha!  Thanks....  Good to see it!

I am watching of course - and also keeping an eye on the USD price, which is holding up well.   The urge to be in BTC ought to be strong, but not as much as I feared. In USD terms we are about where we were a week or so ago.

What will be interesting will be what happens from here. The BTC run is finally here so; it either keeps going up, sits at a new level, or comes back down.  People will take BTC profits, diversify from BTC somewhat, or bale out a little.

Some of this money will come to XMR.  It will be the slingshot some have already mentioned.

Also with a market frenzy, at some point investors will be looking for other 'contenders' for this kind of appreciation beyond BTC and it may also draw new money into crypto generally...

As long as we hold value as well as we seem to be so far, we are well placed.

All the festive best, Nano Smiley

ZEC is doping in value fast. That is why also have drastic corrections. It is totally normal. You can see right now there is 15000 ZEC on Sell orders on Poloniex. Same time next year will be 10 times more.
