HAs anyone successfully built on MS Visual Studio?

I gave up with VS 2010 and installed Xubuntu to do my recompiling

...and that wasn't a pain?  I haven't done it before.

primecoind modified with mustyoshi's changes for linux http://www10.zippyshare.com/v/86926056/file.html
Compiled on debian x64, no idea if it'll run on other systems.
Use at your own risk, no guarantees that this is mining any faster.
Also, learn to compile yourself, it's fun, much more secure and feels like hacking.  Cheesy
for windows https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B9cvOfoOekSdRDlNbExRTlRGcWc/edit?pli=1

Beware of using files that you didn't compile yourself.

Hey Midas, err I mean Sunny King ;o) Nice job on the coin. Lots of good publicity right off the bat also.

and whomever take offense at this or not... Are you really complaining about someone not releasing an optimized miner because it's somehow not fair that they used their education, intellect, or a combination of the two to adjust how the client runs? By the way, is that an obama phone I see in your pocket?

Having an advantage is fine, and intellect/cunning should be rewarded. A 10-20% advantage seems reasonable, a 1000-10000% advantage, however, just reflects badly on the intentions of the actual coin as stated by the devs of this coin and it's predecessor. Not to mention defeating the purpose of any coins initial release, which is widespread distribution and  accessibility..... I could also go into the potential vulnerability existing by having such optimizations ,.. and many other issues but meh.

then again, Not everyone falls into the 'low hanging fruit category', aka those that have to  'game' the/any system to eek a living in the first place, for little reward short term at the cost of longterm gains. think goldfish.

lol obamaphone? vast majority of the US lives on food stamps/ social security/handouts/obamaphones and that society seems to be working well enough to easily control the entire world and more... what was your point?

The point is a leech though I'm surprised you didn't get that. I'm guessing if they expect someone to provide them an optimized miner free of charge so that everyone can mine at an equal rate that they most likely also have a socialized phone such as the obama phone. Granted the phone was started way before obama but under obama the numbers of people taking advantage of that program and others like it have skyrocketed.

I couldn't find this anywhere, but does anyone know how many coins are ever going to be mined for this? Is it the same as Bitcoin?  Kiss

Seeing this:

Bugs me a bit. Can someone fix this?

I second this.  Change this ASAP.  This is something you will take a LOT of flak for, very quickly if you don't get on it.

Change lines 82 and 85 in /src/qt/forms/optionsdialog.ui and then recompile.

...assuming you know how to recompile

I know how to compile in ubuntu, but windows is a huge pain in the ass for compiling (and btc/ltc mining gives me errors in ubuntu 13.04).
Yeah I guess that's the reason no modified windows client will be posted for some time. Although there are gitian sigs @ https://github.com/primecoin/primecoin.gitian.sigs , but that's too high for me.

Yes please! Even though I'd prefer a Windows bin. :C
OK, but it's huge (59 MB), compiled with the standard flags in the makefile, some clues to make it smaller?

edit: forgot to strip it.  Cheesy
What's the size now? =D

...

Can you justify this claim?  I have been mining very acceptably with a single cpu and the stock client.  I have seen NO indication of anyone having that kind of an advantage.

That being said, I think, quite frankly, that if you could pull that off, you would deserve the rewards.  I don't understand all this whining.  The technically inept are not likely to be successful in such an arena as this.

this guy wins the internets for the answer...

Seems like hillbillies are searching for a conspiracy theories lead by their leader Meil Gibson, and when they think (key word) that someone could do 1000 % improvement on open code and HOW DARE they not to share... I mean jokes are great, jokes like these keep me going day by day.

Thank you hillbillies for a great laugh.

I just found a block on the testnet with the code optimizations posted a few pages back. This was on an Intel Atom getting about 46 PPS. For experimentation, I also changed the nMaxSieveSize to 250000 and still got a block. I'm not sure how this will influence things in the long run though. The lower sieve sizes do seem to increase PPS at the moment though.
Edit: found another on the testnet, I'm going to try this on the main network now.
