Exactly. Netscape did have its advantages at first but perhaps didn't evolve fast enough. What we know now is that the user base for BTC is definitely in the masses and with everything still being dependent on it, I'd say the analogy is fair but it doesn't capture the true difference between a browser and an economic assets that disrupts the entire financial system. BTC is therefore here to stay.

Mostly really, the problem here is that people's perception of Bitcoin "evolving" is always on the fast transactions and cheap fees spectrum. While that's definitely great, it's really really difficult to achieve fast transactions and cheap fees on-chain without sacrificing security and decentralization. Hence why the hopes are on layer-2s.

For years, there have been people and companies that don't believe in or don't like bitcoin. but in the end they were the ones who lost and were wrong. It is natural that it is like this now. There is no such thing as everybody will be a bitcoin fan. The bad thing here is that a big company like yahoo has this kind of thinking. this can confuse people.

news like this is common and is often done by several well-known media such as Yahoo when the price of bitcoin is high enough. They provide promotions on several altcoins with the aim of making the altcoins that are promoted will increase.

Despite telling to forget bitcoin, bitcoin will never be forgotten and bitcoin is the orientation of all altcoins. Bitcoin is the king of all altcoins.
and we must be really selective in choosing news that is important, according to the facts, because it can affect the analysis.  often the media and news portals also take this opportunity to attract visitors to their pages, either for other crypto promotional purposes or purely to keep the page alive.  so, don't be easily provoked, avoid fud and focus on other useful news.

I don't think anyone in the cryptocurrency sphere should care about the negative things some private companies, a government official said about Bitcoin cause in the end Bitcoin is still winning despite their negative statement which was planned to cause fud.
Looking at the link you provide, I believe it a paid advert and I don't think you'll expect Yahoo or the article writer will praise Bitcoin rather than doing what they are paid for.
I also think like you. We should not be ignorant of other people's ignorance of Bitcoin. In fact, a person's negative reviews do not adversely affect Bitcoin. Bitcoin itself still has a strong attraction to many people because of the benefits it brings.

Yahoo new was up until yesterday owned by Verizon. The sold at a massive loss to some financial company.
Probably why they're hiring uneducated, clueless writers.

This guy who wrote the article basically says that bitcoin is a thing of the past and litecoin and defi projects are better.

Well I think this could be interesting Yahoo's Ten Biggest Mistakes LOL.
Who would really listen to them? For me I think they are just adding up another mistake here or they are just looking for another opportunity since they missed it on Bitcoin.
Well for me I think it is better to forget alts than Bitcoin (HODL).

On a slightly different note, I think the intention and tone of this article aren't what OP is trying to implicate. Yahoo is suggesting coins that are still underpriced than their value and it has given 3 good utility coins which can actually go very high in their value. They are not trying to say that BTC is useless instead they are just saying that it's no more exciting in terms of multiplicating because while BTC has grown thrice from its previous all-time high. These coins have come long way ahead than that. It doesn't implicate "Yahoo Hates BTC". Moreover, the Analogy is correct at least in terms of the utility of the coin, Bitcoin isn't used a lot in transactions these days due to hefty fees.

Yeap, hence why I said that the journalists are simply ignorant. Bitcoin is always being compared to early iterations of certain platforms/software; despite Bitcoin being not just any kind of software, as it's a protocol. It's quite a significant difference.
It's not comparison but analogy in my opinion since Netscape is the first famous browser and Bitcoin being the first of its kind, I think that that analogy is the reason why they believe that bitcoin is going to be obscure in the long run which isn't true because I think Netscape didn't last a decade.

Ugly move from Yahoo: "Bitcoin is to the crypto market what Netscape was to search engines in the early days of the Internet. There’s a need for a better solution, and the market is responding."

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/forget-bitcoin-crypto-assets-154341517.html

I think we're gonna see a huge BTC rise in the coming months, it's the calm before the storm. HODL!

Did you not hear 'Forget bitcoin' and stack up on uni, link, and ltc Grin, according to the article the bull run is locking around and you don't want to miss out by not holding the right alts,
Btc will rise but will most likely going to moon according to the article, I will be including sov in the list they made, sov will explode in the upcoming months.

Inappropriate comparison. I think these guys just did not have time to buy bitcoins on time and now they are just angry about it. Lost profits and misunderstanding of investors, although there may be some other motives. In any case, bitcoin is not going anywhere, it will be mined for a long time and the price of bitcoin (I'm sure) will only grow in the long term. Even if something more advanced comes to replace it and the market accepts it, bitcoin itself will remain in history and its owners will not lose from their investments.

Netscape was more popular as a browser to me than a search engine and what they are telling is that there will be an alternative that would take over Bitcoin and anything is possible in this market if someone is able to come out with a better solution than what we have in Bitcoin then it is possible that coin could take over Bitcoin in terms of adoption, till now we have not seen anything that shows that there will be a major shift anytime soon.

what yahoo did is nothing special or new. for many years the media has been doing the same thing and has been fooling newbies to buy a lot of shitcoins that were pumping at the time just be dumped on and lost a lot of money.

Not saying this in bad faith, just having some tongue out, but I guess we should thank Yahoo and others then for pulling the wool over people's eyes and helping Bitcoin prove itself against them.

On the other hand, they're also interviewing Coindesk editor apparently in other news I saw, so pretty apparent that the media (or at least, Yahoo) are playing both sides like a profit-oriented media company should.

Want top-notch marketing for your project, Hire me
Naiveness can kill than a disease, we shouldn't be bothered about what people said out of lack of knowledge mind you ex-Paypal CEO once compare Bitcoin to his autograph and now he wishes he didn't.
The writer of the article posted only believes TPS is the major thing that defines good crypto whereas the technology itself and the concept are what plays an important role.
There would be some change of minds in the future and most likely with these kind of negative sentiments turns out to be just contradictory on what theyre currently doing

which they might be saying up some Fuds for them to hope to enter out on the market with cheaper price or actually had already bought coins behind the curtains.

When these kind of words are popping out in the market then its likely we might really be seeing some another bullish run in upcoming months or years.
Change is always constant and I also expect some change of mind in the future but there will be some people who will never support Bitcoin (an Buffet Warren) but the Yahoo situation they are just doing their job and the intention may be to cause fud so they can accumulate some Bitcoin.
Speaking of the bull run to happen in the upcoming months, if the Bitcoin market still replicates the old bullish market trend I expect the bull run market to be over when it November.

I don't see any reason why anyone should even care about reading this article, these days there are so much negativity on the internet about bitcoin, but I do well to stay away from reading those articles and only think positively about bitcoin and the crypto market, i will advise you do the same and not let these critics get to you, just keep calm and hodl till we get to pluto.

Not your Keys, Not your Bitcoins
Oh boy.. Just another "junk", uninformed article by Yahoo editors... DeFi is indeed a trend and will most probably be part of our future, but we should see it as a complementary infrastructure to Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies in general, not an "alternative" to Bitcoin. Take Sovryn for example. It is built on the RSK network which is a second layer to Bitcoin. We can now borrow, lend, provide liqudity, organise token sales and so much more in a decentralized fashion. Not shilling SOV. I'm just writing what I see happening. Ethereum hasd crazy high fees so its scalability gives me second thoughts.

If this was written by a Yahoo author, I just have to say "OH, THE IRONY!!!".  Yahoo is a dinosaur now compared to Google, just in case you didn't get my drift.

That said--and I'm no hater of bitcoin--there are much better alternatives in the crypto space when it comes to cryptocurrencies.  For the last few weeks, bitcoin has sucked as a currency if you were trying to buy something with it.  Network fees are/were very expensive and confirmation times slow.  Pretty much any altcoin that has value would work so much better, and I think it's pretty hard to argue that isn't the truth, no matter how much you might like bitcoin.

But the market loves bitcoin, and I don't see that changing anytime soon.  It might end up being primarily a store of value than a form of money that people use for goods & services, and I'd be just fine with that.

And they put litecoin on that list of cryptos to keep an eye on?  Jesus.

I'm not saying that it's impossible, but I wouldn't go that far tbh. There's really no reason for Yahoo! to want newbies to be losing money on cryptocurrencies. It's simply just the case of having a compelling clickbaity article for people to click on, without giving a crap on what their potential next moves would be.

I will keep the bitcoins that I have, I will not be affected by news or advertisements that will destroy bitcoin. This news circulating aims to increase the price of the altcoins they promote such as UniSwap, Litecoin and Chainlink.
I also bought some Altcoins like (UNI, LTC and LINK) but I will not sell the bitcoins I have because of the negative news about bitcoin, I better hold Bitcoin because the price will definitely be more expensive in the future.
