I tried margin trading. My top problem is that I cannot stop. I always try to recoup and that sometimes makes me lose even more money. There are websites with a risk-preventing system. I cannot say that it’s 100% good for me, but at least my losses have substantially decreased.

That's the danger of jumping on the peak. You just miscalculated the rally that's why you ended up loss. That's scenario happened to me also many times. I always jump on a pumping coin and at the end i loss it because the rally ended and fall really deep. But that's still good because it gives you experience. You can use that experience on making decisions.

Margin trading is all about how to use leverage under different market conditions. It is a  double-edged sword. The unknown side of margin is that you can lose your money in blink of eye if you have positions in volatile market. Trading with margin  is kind of  risky investing  and it can be dangerous without understanding what you’re doing.

My experience in margin trading was not actually good I lost .2 when btc went skyrocket and all of the alts dump and my position that time was long. I have to cut my loss before losing everything. I will never try doing margin trade again until I am sure with my TA to avoid losing more money. I have my regrets but the important thing is I've learned from that experience and it motivated me to study more in trading.

I tried to make some quick buck with margin trading on poloniex recently and lost around half of my bankroll with blink of an eye with Ethereum, i think i have made a bad decision of playing with alts when price of bitcoin was not so stable.

What are your good/bad experiences with altcoin margin trading?

Basically when you do margin trading on polo you have to keep in mind 3 things:

1)play only with amounts you are comfortable to, remember you have a leverage

2)remember you can't close each position with a profit, there are loss, if you don't accept it, it will bring you more losses

3)set (realistic) goals and set also a maximum amount you can lose

A study of patterns and candlestick could be helpful

Happy trading!

If you know what you are doing, margin trading can be very profitable. The problem is the Poloniex lag scam along with the other scams they are currently running. The other day, I sold burst coins and then POOF my whole balance disappeared. 2 days later they gave me burstcoins instead of BTC and burst had lost 40% of it's value. They stole .13 BTC from me. If Poloniex didn't do insider trading and run intricate scams, it would be a good place to trade. I am done with them since they keep stealing money from me. Last week they charged me for lending when I had no orders open! And just stole 1/5% of my bankroll!

Op, trading is a very risky venture and because of this you most have adequate knowledge on how trade work. The only to make money in crypto currencies margin trading is to understand who people lose in it and do the opposite.

I have positive experiences with my margin trading in both crypto and forex as I am very conscious about not waiting for big profits.

Margin trading or leveraged trading may get you more profits for given same amount of capital, but it is not recommended to go with if your trading experience and technical analysis skills are not up to professional mark.
These are seeming some very good points every trader must note down before going for margin trading. I just wonder you are trading like how I am gambling. Yes, I am not greedy while gambling and I close my gambling instantly if I get profits. I yet to experience margin trading, but I believe going with my actual capital will be more than enough for me.

It is no matter whether you are choosing bitcoin nor altcoin, leveraged trading is very much similar to choosing big base bet in gambling, you may get more profits in winning streaks and more quicker losses in negative movements. Leveraged trading without exact price levels which are being supported by strong technical analysis with may bring disasters.

Indeed, I had the same case with TRICK and AL coins. But I knew about them already so I did not put much of the money into them. I always put little money at first and after doing survey I go for bigger chances. However, alt coins can drain at any time so do not trust them completely. You was very much wrong before putting that kind of money on to altcoins. They are solely produce of peoples choice. So you have to study first which one might get popular by chatting with other crypto crazy people and knowing where the money is really going. Once you come to the alt coin of the day then you can invest money in that and grab and opportunity to boost your profits.

This is a type of trading with the loan money , And in my opinion it is just like gambling .
Because here you are making loan based on the total estimated bitcoin you have in your Poloniex account .
If even you will make small earning then that will goes in the interest and all that depends upon your luck that whether your choice for the particular altcoin was right or not .
No doubt from the last night the price of the bitcoin Really fluctuated more than what we expect in the typical condition .
About 2 months ago I also made my first marginal trading , since in the starting I feel that I can do something more better with marginal trading way , but at last I get no profit after all cut Sad , lost of time for me .

I have tried it but not comfortable doing it in Poloniex. I am always thinking that I am trading based on debt and I am bothered with many "what ifs" since trading is just like gambling Grin I do not want to gamble based on debt, the consequences is not good if you are unlucky in my opinion.
It is indeed when you do margin trading indirectly you have got a loan from the site/provider.
Just like when you play leverage in forex trading , once you collected a profit you will have bigger profit.
But don't forget you will have a chance to get busted too with this margin trading , so make sure you have calculated everything.

I personally prefer to use margin trading only on standard Forex pairs like EUR/USD.

IMO crypto's price deviation (+/-) is high enough not to risk your roll with margin trading, if you have at least some reasonable bankroll size.

Let me give you an example: Chances  EUR/USD to move +/- 10% in a day is almost literally zero. So here you need a bigger amount to make X profit/loss. On the other hand, USD/BTC +/- 10% daily is something almost usual.

I have never tried margin trading, I once asked a friend, the answer is disappointing. For beginners like me if not yet good learn better after that try it. Avoiding losing money better. Wink
Margin trading is helpful for newbie traders to avoid or to lesssen the money lose. Trading isn't a matter of luck, it's a matter of strategy and good analysis. Part of it, margin trading is such a great idea to practise, develop, and make your trading profitbale. We shouldn't just listen or rely on a person, we should also try it by ourselves since there is no learning if there is no trying.

In trading luck is also main factor and if we lost on first step, it doesn't means that we can't become traders. In reality, my margin trading experience was profitable for me from the begining, when I didn't know any important thing in trading and to my mind that was luck.
Experiences won't help you OP but remember suggests, they are said from experience and I suggest you to always use demo platforms when you are newbie.

one of the most important things in trading, and much more in marging trading is money management/position sizing. research the subject.
Yes, I am very much aware of that and that is the reason I never prefer going for leveraged trading.

In negative price movements it would be much difficult to deal with capital and position sizing due to restrictions from margin providers. Positions will get auto square off with the limits set by margin providers. I had experience of going for margin trading in Forex but never wanted to try in crypto currency trading.
