I am more on those coins that are undervalued but have lots of potential. Ethereum, Dash, Litecoin are good to invest. We all know it. But to those who cannot afford those I mention above, I suggest look for cheap coins with potential. Like Waves, IOTA, and NEM.
My choice is:
1. PBL - the 1st Protocol for Decentralized Publishing, nice idea, solid team , lots of opportunities to grow
2. XLM - delivered some really good news this year (IBM partnership), i believe this will lead to more positive announcements next year
3. XVG

GVT, MNC and IOTA. they are my suprise coins.
Iota, xrp and wawes my choices. I am definitely investing in them and I think they will gain me in the future.
I would say that some promising coins are WAVES, DGB and RDN. Maybe they are not the most profitable, but they will definitely give a profit in a long term.

Cryptocurrencies are in the unstable period now. Therefore, it is better to invest in established and credible projects like Ethereum, Ripple, Litecoin, as they are less likely to fall in price.
I agree to invest in such kind of altcoin. Cryptocurrency is always unstable if we talk in generally. If some of them stable the other one are not stable. Any of altcoin are good if they have high marketcap. So we can reduce the risk anyway.

I’m not making a recommendation here, but my current top 3 based on what I am holding are LTC, Etherium, and Deep Onion. Deep Onion wasn’t planned, it grew into the #3 spot by outpacing the rest of my holdings.

Why Waves? Most of people think that that waves is a good project but why? I have been thinking about it but i am just not really sure about it.

A lot of great picks here and mine are no different. I pick XRP, ETH and Waves because I feel that they have a long way up to go this coming 2018.
There are lots of altcoins and most of them are dumping and having low values. It is difficult to predict the price of a certain because of its fluctuation. For me, my top three altcoins are BCH, ETH, and Dash. I choose BCH because for me, it has a nice price even it was just released on August. I also choose ETH because I think it is a good coin and most of altcoins are ERC20 based. I choose Dash because as I observed, it has a nice price and I think it will give me more profit if I will have some. These are my top three altcoins because for me, they are the best.

We almost the same I hold also Wave, IOTA and Ethereum I planned to hold this for a long run purposes and I know these coins are have a great potential if you remember last few months ethereum who almost overtake the price the of bitcoin by next year it will happen again. Litecoin also for long term is the best altcoin and a strong fundamental coins like bitcoin, I hold now huge litecoin in my portfolio hoping that someday the price of altcoin may the next step of bitcoin.I'll start with mine:
