how can i reduce the number of CPU threads used in the mining software ?
Usually it is "-t" setting. -t 3 for three threads for exampleWhich file i need to edit to make this setting. I'm new to this mining software . i have only used xmr-stak-cpu
so appreciate if you can tell me exactly which file i need to edit or the command i need to run on the doc prompt.
you need to edit batch file like this *.bat
cpuminer-sse2.exe -a lyra2z330 -o stratum+tcp://zoin.netabuse.net:3000 -u USERNAME -p PASSWORD -t 4
this file configure algo mining,pool, user, how many cpu cores you wish to use for mining
download cpuminer and you will find this file there

with two thread my i7 processor is running at 66% . is it a good ratio for the durability of the processor?
You did not write core i7 models but as a rule they have 4 cores and an additional 4 HyperThread streams. I think you need to put the parameter in the -t 6 or -t 7 position, then your CPU will most likely launch TurboBoost frequency boost technology. This way you will achieve maximum performance for zoin mining. I also advise you to check the cooling system and, if necessary, perform its cleaning and replacement of thermal interface.
