If you have that kind of money, don't invest it in just one coin, invest in several, just in case one of them crashes. So better invest your 12K in several good coins.
If you are looking for one and that's already established on the market - that's QSP - a lot to go in stores, great project and will be in high demand. Believe me, its at least 10x from todays price by summer.
It is better to divide and inlay such sum in a few currencies. Look information about the market of cryptocurrencies and about chinks which will become perspective. you will divide the budget into a few parts and if what that a coin will not rise - other will rise necessarily
Priv is a really good coin to buy at the moment. It's still in early stage! But now before it is too late.

I will suggest you something, dont invest in those altcoins that no one knows , just invest in the solid ones, like ethereum, litecoin, dash, monero, and so on.ZRX will also rise, but it is not safe enough compared to ethereum or the other coins.
Invest in bitcoin and Ethereum, I think this is a good solution, at the end of the year you will get a good profit.
First you need to understand about bitcoin and altcoins do proper reasaerch and then split your money and invest according your money like you want to invest 12000$ then invest that money into 6 coins like 200$ each coin it will gain you more profits and less risk.

I think Ethereum is quite potential and you can invest in it for a long time without fear of failure. It appears mostly in large projects, trading floors and in the Altcoin market. So it will probably replace Bitcoin in the future
please be realistic, every investment has their own risk, but give it a try, dont invest to much money, because it is riskier and split your money into 3 or 4 coin because they will give you another chance to get a big profit

Investing in ripple is a good decision since the price are drop down but in my opinion you need to split your investment into two since your capital are huge $12000 just try the EOS and NEO this two is one of the powerful altcoin in the market the developer are awesome with a great technology inside.

for a long term just go for the most trusted coins on the market you wont be deceived by them, i dont know this is just my best advice for u
Prioritize on investing in bitcoin and ethereum, these coins are for long term investments and you can count on them. Trust the potential of those two primary coins before even investing on other altcoins, which you are able to identify once you actually research on which campaigns are doing great.
I think beside ETH the platform projects like EOS, LISK and Ark are also attractive projects for long term investment, since they have with their very active team and community great potentials and good future. From my point of view these coins are the perfect candidates for the long term investment.
I will divide the small capital and take the investment. That makes me safer. But I would choose ICO investment with small capital. The remaining capital will trade and invest in stocks
