Hmm, that "effective fee" is a nice idea, thanks for the hint !
Now I can advertise my fees as twice lower :)

To add to this, we are not planning to obtain a certificate from a third party for now.
Consider using http://www.cacert.org; their certs are free and at least for some people the warning should vanish.

BTW, Chlorine and you should update your signatures.  Wink
I knew we would forget something somewhere while doing the transition..  Embarrassed Thanks for pointing it out Smiley

If anyone sees any more references to 0% fee or the introductory period, please let us know and we'll change them. There's a lot of content on the site, and although we checked it all we may have overlooked something.

Chlorine - keeps your pool in top condition
Any plans for a SSL ceritficate?

Hi Brian,

Access ABCPool.co through https://www.ABCPool.co to encrypt all traffic. Your browser will warn you that the certificate is not issued by a trusted authority, because we self-signed it. Your connection will still be encrypted.

Please see also our FAQ https://www.abcpool.co/faq.php.

regards,
Chlorine

NEWS: Introductory period successfully finished

Happy new year everyone from Chlorine and me! May 2012 bring you happiness, good health, and lots of mining profits.

As indicated on the last week, the ABCPool introductory period would end in the new year: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.664079

Today we pushed out the changes necessary to support the new fee of 4%. The PPS-amount has been adjusted as of this afternoon. You don't have to change anything to your mining setup, just keep mining as you've always done!

As part of the change we have also lowered all donation-percentages by 4% , so you won't be paying twice.

You may want to re-think your donation amount though. The fee makes sure we can pay for operational costs and time spent on support. Donations encourage us to further develop ABCPool.co with cool new features.

Keep them hashes flowing!
Thanks,
MC

Are the balances still playing "catch up" from this morning's freeze on payments? I'm looking at approximately a 1.2BTC deficit from normal.

Thanks!
They are indeed still wrong. We've identified the problem and the balances will be compensated within a few hours. No income will be lost, because sharecounts have been accumulating normally.
UPDATE: The balance issue has been resolved. All balances have been corrected to include the period between 14:12 - 16:17 UTC during which counted shares were not added to the balance.

questions on the new fee / donation environment...

the donation field is still on the accounts tab.  In the new environment, if we choose to donate, will this be on top of the 4% fee?

In the past, the history was avaliable with a 1.5% donation.  Will this still be avaliable under the flat 4% fee? or will we need to make an additinal 1.5% donation bringing the total up to 5.5%?

thanks,
Sigg
Good questions, I'm sure you're not the only ones interested in the answers Smiley

Donations have always been voluntary, and will remain voluntary in the future. They are on top of the fee and go towards development of new site features. We'd like to encourage you to re-think (i.e. lower) your donation percentage with this in mind.

All existing site features are now available without the need for a donation, give it a try!

Looking into it! We're rolling out the new fee right now, probably has something to do with that.

Hi MintCondition,
My share and balance stop counting, but your server still accepting shares, what happen?

i can imagine with the incredibly low stale rate, and the paying for invalid shares, a 4% fee may work out to be much less than that. 1-2% really compared to another pool.

2% Fee + ~1% stales + not being paid for them either >= 4%

I get paid for 99.85% of my shares (~10 invalid/stale per 6500) at ABC Pool.  At BTC Guild, I get paid for 98.50% (~100 invalid/stale per 6500) and they charge a 5% fee.

My lifetime invalid/stale rate is 0.20%.

This pool is a machine.

I would point to all of miners who consider 4% fee to be too expensive compared to the "free" alternatives. Calculate how much their server downtimes actually costs you. Here is an example:

Uptime 96-97% vs. abcpool 99.9
Other "free pool" server issues eg. lot's of stales/connectivityproblems % of time: 5%

Also notice that even if you use backup server script I have had issues simultaneously with several "free" pools.
Your mining rigs consume still about 10-25% of energy while idling.

I am happy with 4% fee if the great service continues and I am sure it will because ops have little incentive.

Happy new year & success to BTC and people

I personally doubt they'd get much from ads, at all. I mean, who here DOESN'T run adblocking software on their browser? Seriously?

My only desire, and I've mentioned it in the past as well, is to bring about namecoin mining, and allow some sort of automated selling of the NMC->BTC, for an extra kick in the ass in terms of overall income. It's something other pools offer, and it's something that would be well received here. I understand not doing it, and I'm clearly fine with it, as I still have 22k mh/s sitting in the pool, but it would be nice.

It's not as if there's a plethora of options in terms of "pools like this". If the 4% fee drives you away, so be it, but I have a hard time imagining your 4% fee is going to net into a lower daily payment than the comparable, also-have-a-fee pools, without the benefit of instant gratification.

A 4% fee is reasonable.  It's worth it.  If you don't think it is, then mine elsewhere.  It's quite simple, really.

Bittenbob, given the hashrate displayed in your avatar, you probably earn ~0.33 BTC/day.  A 4% fee is a whopping 0.0132 BTC/day.
One and a half bitcents.  Golly.  Is instant payout at anytime not worth something to you?  To hell with advertisements.

Seriously guys, have you considered advertising in order to reduce the need for fees? I have never seen an ad on the site and im sure more than a few miners like to come see their stats regularly which could add up to big money real fast. If there is a 0% fee PPS pool with ads vs a fee pool without i would definitely take the one with the ads.

I am quite happy as of late with the stability of the pool though so I probably wont leave because of the mandatory fees.
