This looks like a problem at the very start:
I'm not sure what's causing it though - timeout errors are usually a network issue but maybe someone a bit more tech savvy can chime in.....?

jtoomim - what's the standard queue setting on them?
8192, like all other Bitmain gear. The main problem is that Bitmain's cgminer will abandon stale shares by default, which is problematic with p2pool. (A stale share means a DOA/orphan on the share chain, but could still find a block.)Yeah, that's what I figured they'd be. I found changing the queue setting to 1 0r 0 helps, but hopefully kano will be able to work his magic again & fix their terrible cgminer

yeah i belive the vps provider has opened the tcp port 9332 but has not opened stratum 9332 so thats why we can connect via browser but not miner
