Pools provide the expected time to block information as a guideline.  There is no guarantee that a block will be found during that timeframe.  As you stated, one can appear at any time.  However, if you know the hash rate and the current network difficulty you can easily calculate the expected time for a block.  Online calculators use the same formula to determine your expected earnings over time as well.

Ok, thanks Johnny!  Smiley

Why the expected time to block info
if the block appears suddenly?    Huh Roll Eyes

I see, glad to hear that !
Are there any issues / bottlenecks - apart from lack of miners ?
Nope

It is nice to see p2pool is still around.
Well done !
We are still solving the occasional block. Smiley

Well i think that's due to bitcoin difficulty
but i'm not sure since there's the 3 days and
the 24h teory that the shares stay in the
payout list!!!   Grin

Why when i pause mining for some hours (12 hours for example) i do not have the same expected payout when i resume mining?

Is that a real question?

Linux since 1997 RedHat 4
p2pool luck isn't calculated correctly, so there's not much point paying much attention to it.

What this means pool luck 2000% or
pool luck 73% ?
Why when i pause mining for some hours (12 hours for example) i do not have the same expected payout
when i resume mining?
ok

Has anybody been successful running P2Pool on a pruned node?
It throws an error: Block xxxx not found, pruned data.. and P2Pool refuses to start.

Running fine on a full node however. The blockchain size is getting quite big these days and it may be convemient to run it on a pruned node sometimes. For example for backup nodes.

1) Most Antminers (including the S4, S5, and S7, and possibly the S3) have problems with p2pool, and will lose hashrate and become unstable unless you use a special firmware. These problems were fixed with the S9, but during the earlier generations, p2pool lost a lot of hashrate.

I've used a dozen S1's and one S7 with P2Pool and haven't noticed any lost hashrate.  Is this an accepted thing?  Should I be looking into that special firmware?

I use Kano's firmware with the S3 and have observed no problems. I never tried mining on p2pool without Kano's firmware installed. I have not noticed any issues with the S7-LN losing any hashrate on p2pool.

I disagree with you regarding CPU load

Maybe it's just a problem I have had because I tend to run p2pool nodes with a lot of hashrate. I also always do SSDs, so I've never seen the HDD->SSD improvement.

How many clients are connecting to your node? The difficulty of each share submitted by a client should be commiserate with its hashrate. Unless you have >1000 clients connecting to your node, I do not see how your CPU would be a factor. I run a lowly Xeon X3450 and the sucker is only pushing a 15 minute load average of 0.31.

What happened to P2Pool?

...

2) As block sizes increased, the CPU load on p2pool nodes has increased as well. In order to get reasonable efficiency with p2pool, you now need a fairly fast CPU, like a 3+ GHz Sandy Bridge or faster. Network bandwidth and latency requirements have also increased.

...

I disagree with you regarding CPU load based on my own testing using both bare-metal and virtual servers. It has been my observation that a p2pool node's efficiency is most affected by the responsiveness of the attached storage array. I found that my getwork times on a Samsung 850 EVO SSD were about 1/2 of that found on a Western Digital Black HDD and that node efficiency improved over 5% as well.

What happened to P2Pool?

Three main reasons, as I see it:

1) Most Antminers (including the S4, S5, and S7, and possibly the S3) have problems with p2pool, and will lose hashrate and become unstable unless you use a special firmware. These problems were fixed with the S9, but during the earlier generations, p2pool lost a lot of hashrate.

3) There's no Chinese installation manual for p2pool.

What happened to P2Pool?  It's been a while since I've mined on P2Pool.  I got a shiny new Antminer S7 so I fired up my old P2Pool node.  I see that the time to block is 10 days!  Back in the day we used to find blocks every few hours.  Why doesn't anyone mine on P2Pool anymore?  Despite the high variance, from what I can tell the luck has been very good.  There's no need to trust pool operators.  All the old reasons are still valid, but there's only 3 smallish farms mining on P2Pool and a handful of small guys like me with one or two rigs.

No clue brother.
