been following this topic from the start and at this point I really don't have an opinion on whether its legit or otherwise, but if I were a legit company such as BF Labs is claiming to be, and had a product initially priced at $599, then posted a thread that blew up like this one did, I would certainly raise the price as well...

Seems to me, if this is a real company with a product that can do what they claim it can do, they would not have originally underpriced it so far.

I'm waiting for a response back from my latest email in regards to a demo with the current development drivers & firmware.

Thanks for doing this Inaba (and potentially wasting your time).  None of the sarcasm and bile is directed at you.  Without you having at least limited access the situation would be even more opaque.

The BitForce Saga Act I - The Pitch

Granny: This nice man named BFL came by and offered to sell me a BitForce Single.  It does 1.05 GHash/s and only costs $500. With that, I don't need to pay those high commissions on Mt Gox, so I can spend even more bitcoin on Silk Road.

Grandson: No Grandma, don't you see that it is a SCAM.  If it's too good to be true then it is.

Granny: Not only does the Single get 1.05 GHash/s but it only consumes 19.6 watts!

Grandson: No Grandma, can't you see, they just want your money.

Granny: If I don't order now, I lose the chance to take advantage of the pre-order pricing.

Grandson:  These prices are too good to be true! It IS a SCAM.

to be continued in Act II - The Demo

LOL. The rule still stands : if it appears too good to be true then it probably is. Enjoy getting shafted by BFL !

most scammers don't hand back the money once they have it....
They might if they want to perpetuate the scam?

This scam is getting funnier by the minute. No demo. People getting refunds. The game is UP.

well for ppl who got the refund, thats good for them. But what about others who do not participate in this thread?

Only BFL can know.

What you do know is people asked for and received refunds, most scammers don't hand back the money once they have it....

Agreed, if the only money they would make without a product would be on the preorders. Are people still able to pay for units?

  Fizz's #'s 5 and 6 bugger me too.

Is the demo going to come or is there no demo after all?

Well, one guy charged back his order so no demo for you!

He had it refunded, from what I understand, not charged back. 2 different things.

If i got flu, i can cough or have running nose. 2 different symptoms from 1 problem.

Unless, it was a brick...that you were purchasing Wink
Yeah I'm sure BricksOnline.com aren't appreciative of the insinuation that they are scammers! Sure, the shipping adds up... but they have so many colors!

If you pay from a paypal balance and do not use ebay, you have no guaranteed protection.  Paypal COULD side with you, but they might not.  Even if they do side with you, if they can not recover funds you still get no refund.

If you pay by a credit card you get more protection.  Just do not make the mistake of dealing with your credit card first with the dispute.  Try the dispute with paypal, even though it may fail.  This SHOULD give you the ability to keep your paypal account if you would like it in the future.   If the paypal dispute fails, then deal with your credit card company for a refund.  If nothing was shipped, the odds are you will get your money back up to three months.  Because you filed a dispute with paypal first (you followed paypals rules) they can not set your account to negative after the chargeback EVEN THOUGH YOU LOST THE FIRST DISPUTE WITH PAYPAL.

Some credit cards, like AMEX, will allow a chargeback even six months down the line.

I received a response from PayPal regarding my inquiry. Turns out DeathAndTaxes isn't right. Chargebacks are only guaranteed when you purchase from eBay. (Emphasis added)

Ouch.  Pretty assholish for Paypal to call it the Buyer Protection when it only applies to Ebay purchases.  I have to think that is intentional double speak.  IF they wanted to be clear why not have Ebay Buyer protection policy and Paypal General Buyer protection policy.

So looks like your rights for non-ebay chargebacks are next to nothing.  If I am reading that right, from that email it looks like the seller could ship a brick (literally) and you would have no resource.   Sound about right?
