^^ Definitely, Zion's will need to adjust to NBA playing style.

He hasn't played a single game in the regular season, so we can't tell.

He was unfortunately injured during the pre season and injuries are normal, every player are vulnerable to it, whether its preseason, regular season, or playoffs. Let's just hope he can come back bringing the same intensity he showed during the preseason so he will become a big help to his team to rank up.

I mean he can't just dunk over everyone, and experience players are going to bodied him and this could make him uncomfortable. Unless he has the mentality of Lebron James during his rookie year. So for me, Zion needs to adjust psychologically and then see where his body are going to take him in his first season.

He doesn't just work based on what he like, he sure have a coach or a trainer that is here to guide him because they want to protect him and the organization's investment to him.
They announced a while ago he wont be making his first appearance in the regular season until midway through out if lucky. I cant see him getting close to becoming rookie of the year no way. I have seen nunn play and he is getting the minutes and have performed well above those who were drafted while he wasnt. So this to me is the best reason to put him at the top of the list. Smiley

Carmelo Anthony is finally picked up by a team! Portland Blazers actually picked up Carmelo Anthony for a non-guaranteed minimum and it is awesome that we will get to see Carmelo on the floor once again.

I know he could be literally cut down from the roster if he doesn't play well enough to stay in the team and Portland doesn't need him around if he is not going to work so dude may end up with a cut short run once again but if he could just work hard and get into a rhyme dude could actually help Portland turn things around. This dude scored 28 just 3 games before he was cut, he is still a great player and a top 20 scorer in history of NBA, why would anyone want to kick him out is beyond my understanding but also why wouldn't he get picked up right away is even more silly. Lets see how he ends his career this time.
He's a good scorer and defender way back from it's prime, but attitude issues ruined his career, he needs to work from Blazers squad in order for him to extend his stay. He already mentioned that he's willing to adjust just to have the opportunity to play again. Let see if he'll be able to fit with the blazers system knowing that the tempo of the play start from Lilard and CJ, Melo is a born scorer it's a good chance if he adds threat when CJ and Lilard get into traffic and help scoring the basket.

Looks like the Barkley move worked.
I am not a fan of the kid but he is really good.
There are times when he makes a lot of errors but he explained it all quite well in an interview with ESPN.
So the question now is how he will get up.

He knows there is something terrible about him specially in the locker room.
If he can minimize the errors and somehow showcase what is good about him then he might get a better contract next time.

Not sure if Melo is the perfect player to give a boost to the team. Melo is an icon but he is the leader that does not easily gets along perfectly well with other players, not especially as just a simple team booster and not as a star player in court, which he still believe he is until now.
I am hoping that he learned to adjust to his role from not playing for almost a year. That is his hard reality now. Accept he is not the focal point now and rise to the challenge or he will not be playing in NBA anymore. He is a non-guarantee. Blazers can kick him out anytime they are not satisfied with his performance.

I have a feeling that zion's not going to meet expectations when he plays. I mean, not a draft bust, and he could be decent or starter caliber at best, but not the dominant type that the pelicans can build a young team around. Impressive ncaa stint yes, but its likely the guy won't have the same effect when he plays with the big guys competitively.
Let him play his rookie year first and let his coach and trainers make the necessary adjustments to his game. We cannot just make presumptions without seeing him play a single NBA regular season game.

Just as what I expect from the kid, he's not a superstar kind of player but he has talent which he should harness to achieve what people think he could do. I don't think he could make it a run for the rookie of the year this season though.

this is the current rank for total point leaders rookie 2019. from the list above, I like the style of Ja Morant and Coby White. Ja Morant with good speed put on Coby White is a good shooter. unfortunately, Zion still can't play until now.

That's why I believe Pelicans can build his squad well, a group of young players who are so entertaining in every game.

All of us can assume this but the real reality is in the field later. We also don't know Zion's current body shape, maybe his body has changed since pre-season. I'm sure Pelicans also suggested the best for Zion.

It will be a hard fought race for the MVP.
There is Kawhi, Lebron and the new crowd favorite Doncic.
Triple doubles or double double, these guys are game changers and Gianis might be on the last of the list.
It will depend also on their health. if possible 80 games should be played to take that trophy for season MVP.

I will vote for Doncic now. Give him some boost to be more confident and be the new face of the league.  Grin

Luca has the very big chance to become the youngest MVP, younger than D.Rose (MVP at age 22). Im voting half for Doncic, as he continued to be consistent by leading the Dallas Mavericks last season up to this season averaging almost a triple double at a very high level of basketball IQ.
While, I'm also voting half for LeBron. He's in his 17th season and were playing like the LeBron in 2013.

If Doncic wont get the MVP this year, I'm pretty sure next season he will.

Don't forget James Harden as well.

He is playing MVP caliber again, averaging almost 39 points a game. So it will be interesting how the MVP this season goes (although it is still early). Of course, many wanted to see Luka winning because he really elevated his game this season.

But we have to see his team win though, so that the argument for him in the discussions for the MVP will be solid and legit, just saying.

I haven't forgotten about him.
It is just that there is a voting system now and Harden is not the type which is being liked by the people.
That is why Gianis won the MVP even though Harden had the better stats.
One reason why I dont put him in my list.

If both are playing on the same level, it will be James Harden who has an edge because definitely his team will end with a better standing compared to the Mavericks. Last season, IIRC, the race was between Harden and Giannis but Giannis team has a great standing owning the best record in the NBA regular season so he won that award.

That would be a factor. Although the individual performance is going to count big, it is doubtless another factor if you can carry your whole team and win games, and not just make high points, double double, or triple double but end up losing games anyway. Doncic may very well be a player fighting for that precious MVP award against other stars, but he needs to be consistent for the season is long. And Dallas has to record more wins.

update last Nov. 7, 2019 based on the link above.

Code:
Alvin Gentry confirmed that Zion Williamson (knee surgery) will not play in November.

It's a lot of time to wait and their struggle might continue.

Currently they are 3-8 (w-L) and they are lucky not to be in the bottom, thanks to Holiday they won in their last game against the Clippers by spoiling the return of Paul George but they can't keep it consistent if they will only rely on holiday.

They badly need someone who can produce points consistently, and I believe Zion Williamson is the one that could help them on that department.

we need to wait and need to see her play.
he is not her, he is "his". Grin

I hope he didn't disappoint the fans and the club. Melo will join the Blazers on their upcoming Roadtrip (CMIIW).
he will try his best, he disappointed two teams already, the OKC and the Rockets, so I'm sure after a long break, he already realize and had the strategy on what to do now that he has a contract.

but yeah let's forget about Melo and wait until he can play for Blazers. By the way, how about Zion Williamson condition? when will he be ready to play for the Pelicans?

I think the contract is good for the club and for players because Trailblazers and Carmelo agree in a contract agreement (Non-Guaranteed). Melo will get $14K while in the Portland Roster. His contract will be fully guaranteed (Fully-Guaranteed) if he is not released after 7 January 2020.
Melo for sure will try his very best to prove his worth, he really wanted to play and to what I understand he also willing to adjust his level, He's willing to play even in a support cast and not the star caliber the way he was treated before. I'm also hoping that he's contract will continue and he bring good help for CJ and Dame. With his experienced he can add mental boost for Dame and CJ while trying to workout with blending the chemistry.

Not sure if Melo is the perfect player to give a boost to the team. Melo is an icon but he is the leader that does not easily gets along perfectly well with other players, not especially as just a simple team booster and not as a star player in court, which he still believe he is until now.
No one would know unless we see him playing with the Blazers and there's a good effect on the team.
Melo once lead the NY knicks so he has that kind of leadership that could surely help the Blazers if he will just always follow the game plan.

The important thing here is the acceptance of the Blazer's key player and with that, Damian Lillard's acceptance of Melo in the team is a good thing to start with. Melo may say it or not but he may now realized how hard it is to be rejected on the game that you love and hope that he is humbled by the experience. Setting aside the pride, is key here if he want to prolong his basketball career for at least a year.
