One of the reasons why other players still stay at old age.
1. Love of the game.
2. They are acquiring enough money for retirement.

You can add - chasing their first ring by signing a 1 year vet. minimum deals to a contending teams with stacked rosters.

Also, most teams, if not all, need a veteran presence in their locker room. Apart from chasing rings and money, being able to help/mentor young players is what some of the old dudes like to do.

There is no reason for staying if you are not making enough money anymore.
Dirk should better enjoy his retirement if he still have a savings from his earnings, I hope he has because some NBA players got broke after they retire.

One of the reasons why other players still stay at old age.

40 is mostly the age they retire. After that there will be no money entering in their accounts.

They still got 30-40 years to live and I dont think the money they got from playing basketball can afford that.
Add up the life they got used which is mostly expensive.

So business will be their option since they cannot be accepted in office works for that age.

I do think Dirk is a wise man. His Teacher might have already prepared him for that.

Mavericks' Dirk Nowitzki open to taking on bench role in 2018/19 season

Doesn't have to force every game in the first place so I think it's way better for Nowitzki to come up on the bench and let their young rosters to do what's the best thing to do. No doubt even at his age, he still have that "hot hands".

No need also to hardly pushed the 232 points behind Wilt Chamberlain for the 5th spot on NBA All-time scoring list as he can achieved that even with a minimum of 5 points a game although it's unlikely to happened that he will only have a majority of 5 points in every game.  I think before All-Star game next  year, he will now passed Chamberlain. Just my speculation as long as he remained healthy and present in every game.

And coming from a bench, who knows he will become a contender for a 6th Man award which is unusual for a near retiree player. What an achievement if that will happened.

Respect for Dirk Nowitzki.
So humble and giving way for this young players. If he could get 20 points a game then he is covering a lot of that 5 points a game already. Grin it will be an easy target for him. Those hands will never be forgotten. The one that gave Mavs a championship even if it took a long time.

That championship really made me a big fan of him although I am already a fan even before that. Grin
He don't have to prove anything because he already won a championship.
Playing with a little minutes would help him healthy season long because at his age, he can easily be injured but in crunch time, the team can
still rely on him since he is a veteran player.

Yes. Get him in at crunch times. Most teams do that to veterans like him.
Robert Horry before was used for that kind of play.
Steve Kerr is also one example of a crunch time player with eagle eyes.

But next year should be a retirement for him. He have done enough for Mavs. Hell others old players didnt even have a chance for the ring.

Mavs should do that in last season 2017-18 to be able to make at least playoffs. We all know that Dirk Nowitzki is too old now and makes me think needs to retire and because of his performance is too far the young Dirk Nowitzki.

Well great players come to a point where they know their roles even if they're not the top option anymore. Dirk has carried this franchise for most of his long career and coming off the bench isn't something that can take away his worth. And i agree, catching up to wilt won't need him to put up a lot of minutes. He'll do it off the the bench.

The #Timberbulls need to buyout Noah's contract and complete the full circle.  Grin

Too bad it's gonna last no more than a year. No way in hell Jimmy stays to play with Wiggins and KAT.
The Chicago Bulls super team reunion but now in different team. I wish they will get Noah so the full reunion will be complete. Once a best lineup now an average players only (except for Butler I think)

And I guess Butler in on his way out of minnesota? This was being reported before, when Butler and Towns had a misunderstanding. Do we have any updates regarding that issue?
Not really the best lineup (maybe one of the best in the east) , they couldnt get passed the Heat in the post season series. Maybe I would consider them beating the Heat before D.rose's ACL knee injury.

I haven't heard about any update regarding the issue between Butler and KAT. Probably there won't be anything new before the beginning of the season.
Nevertheless, I think Butler will be out and he'll join Lakers.
I would celebrate if Butler will join Lebron, it's a good combination and they definitely have a chance against the warriors, provided that Butler
will remain healthy. He is a star of the Chicago Bulls and he was able to carry the team, imagine if he plays with Lebron.

Nope. Butler should better play off without LeBron. He will only become a nutshell because of the great ball hugging of the king. I think Butler should play in a team that is composed of hungry players to compete for a championship and the team that's supposed to be that way is the Spurs and I do believe that he suits in the playing style of POps.
That might happen but I am still hopeful that Lebron will change the way he play and will adjust according to the play the coach will design.
When Lebron plays with Irving they had a good success and they even win a championship, I think for Butler in order to have a good chemistry
will Lebron, he needs to be humble and accept that Lebron is the King.

It could happen, theres even a speculation about KD joining the Lakers next year, and that includes Butler as well. While Leonard will surely sign with LA next year ( If nothings gonna make him change his mind. ) Lets just see what will happeb next year.

Los Angeles Lakers is really a damn rich team that can offer max contract for at least two superstars. Even season 2018-2019 hasn't started yet, the talks about their plan on 2019 free agency is one of the hot topics right now. Kawhi Leonard, Kevin Durant, Klay Thompson, Jimmy Butler and there are also others big names who might popped up on the lists.

I would celebrate if Butler will join Lebron, it's a good combination and they definitely have a chance against the warriors, provided that Butler
will remain healthy. He is a star of the Chicago Bulls and he was able to carry the team, imagine if he plays with Lebron.

The problem with Butler is inconsistency. Yes no doubt he is good but his explosiveness is inconsistent. But playing with Lebron, I think some adjustments will be made by him.

Well, that would not happen though. Lebron has his contracts on LA Lakers and will be that in years. There would be a lot of great matches on West Conference finals since we will be seeing the rivals facing again, it is just sad it will not be happening in the NBA Finals. Still, there will still be a lot of new team ups on the other conference but I guess WCF would be the most anticipated games than ECF.

I dont understimate LA this season. They have a lot of amazing young talents plus the vets like Rondo and Stephenson can help them a lot to reach their full potential. Lebron will of course lead the team. But, its just so sad to see GSW today has a superb fire power.

Lakers option for Butler might be tricky though, since Anthony Davis recently fired his manager and signing with Rich Paul. There's definitely things behind the scenes we don't know about.

Completely forgot about it!
But adding a big man to LeBron makes much more sense, for sure!

ball rotation movement
ball rotation style
Shocked Grin

That cricket or bowling?.. sure does not sound like basketball.

That is funny, I think what he is trying to say is the ball movement. I don't see this much on a great team since what I see most of the time on NBA these days is individual plays which is great since we are seeing how developed and improved the players are but there are still a reason why they are called a team.

I am not saying that there are no ball movement on the players these days but I don't see it more like the old days of NBA.

Yes they forgot the combined power if all of you can score or defend.

ISO types. But this plays are also made to see how good the defender is against a star. We know man to man defense is just the mostly used kind of defense now.
If it will be a mismatch then they will abuse it. If not they will try a screen for a switch of defender again.

What is mostly missing now is the double team. It may be tiring but it is also worth it if they could steal the ball. But what team does that now?

Yeah, it's probably Lakers or Knicks.
Latest reports indicate NY are going to make everything in their power to acquire Kyrie in '19 off season.

I just read that Ralph Lawler is retiring after this season.
