Spencer Dinwiddie; A healthy Ben Simmons would definitely play at the All-Star level and would be easily selected as an All-Star. Better than most names in the league.
I don't quite agree with that because the problem isn't just that he's healthy.
His biggest problem is mental health.

Speaking of Ben, just watch some highlights of him when he was still with the Sixers, yeah, he was really good because that mental breakdown and then the whole media put their eyes on Ben and he was just affected psychologically.

Although he played with the Nets, it was just a shadow of himself. Of course, Spencer is a team mate so he will tell us some positive things about Ben Simmons, maybe encouraging the young fellow to come up and become healthy again so that he can proved his critics wrong.

Considering Wemby is a 7'3+ Center that has a great ball handling and shot, I have to say the risk of getting injured is there as well. So, I am guessing they are aiming at making his core more powerful, and his legs more powerful along with his knees.

Normally tall players get injured a lot easier, he is a skinny dude as well which means that there is a chance he could get injured a lot easier. So instead of making him play at summer league, maybe they will end up with him training his body instead, he is already talented and making him shoot more shots doesn't really make him all that much better, his body being trained to withheld 82 game season would be much more important at this moment and if he plays 70+ games on his rookie season I will consider that a huge success.

Concerns that Victor may be injury prone are justified as he is too skinny for his height. In fact, he weighs about as much as the average point guard and shooting guard, which means that even small forwards can pressure him in the paint. As I see it, the optimal weight for Victor should be 265-285 pounds to dominate the paint and be less prone to injury.
So he should really spend a lot of time in the Spurs' gym during the offseason.

Wemby is gonna take the break in the NBA summer league and will now focus on the upcoming season. This is as per the decision of his team, Spurs.

Spurs decide that Victor Wembanyama’s Summer League is over after two games

I guess this is all part of the grooming plan and he had shown enough for the summer league. The preparation for the upcoming season should be prioritized then.
What's the main reason why there is Summer League? It's for the undrafted players to showcase their full potential, hoping to have a spot in the NBA roster, or even in the G-league.

Wembanyama must not play in the Summer League TBH, but 2 games just to have a glimpse on what can he expect when he play in the NBA is I guess enough already. I guess he knows where to adjust after he played 2 games. Now he needs to workout, do some shooting drills, and maybe increase his body frame since we're still months before the regular season starts. It's a good decision by the management.

It's also good to see Coach Pop signing a 5-year contract with the Spurs again. He already taught of retiring after last season, but because the Spurs got the number 1 pick this year, he wants to develop Wembanyama thus, signing that new contract. With his veteran experience, and a lot of knowledge, I'm pretty sure that he can develop Wembanyama just how he developed Tim Duncan in the past.

I definitely agree on that note. These players who have drafted this summer already have their own contracts, so there is exactly no benefit for them to play in the Summer League because those that kind of games are not even the kind of games they will be playing when the season starts. The playing minutes should be given solely for the undrafted players to show their capabilities and skills, as well as the invitees because as what happened, they just looked like a clown in the bench.

Not a bad performance for his debut in the league and I think that Spurs will give him some workouts to do for improvement. He's agile, and has passing ability, overall I'd say he's definitely great but having a skinny body in his actual regular season debut will surely not dominate if he goes head-to-head with some plumber guys on the court. Can't wait for this phenomenal kid to make some storm.

Right decision for your valuable asset, instead of risking him playing inside summer league, it's much better to him focusing
with what he needed to improve after that experienced.

He needs to work for any improvements that he can develop, more on his individual talents while waiting for the upcoming
season, better to keep him healthy.
There's for sure the program that's all set for him and that's part of his development with his stay in the Spurs. They will take care of him on how they've taken on their other first picks Robinson and Duncan.

He's got the talent already, he just need to cultivate it and be ready for the wild inside the court once the season starts.

It's nothing compared to the summer league but yet, that's given them already the idea on how tougher will it be.

Hey! That's a foul!  Grin

But, I don't agree with it too. Not the mental health for me but more in his bad point of view. He ain't a bad player, he is actually good if will be polished but it is he who dislikes the methods being given to him. The guy is like a spoiled brat, IMO. But, this is not the first time we have seen such a player. He wants to be a star but doesn't have the right arsenal to do so, he might as well just join a team with shooters if he will stay at his own path with no shooting skills.

In the Philippines, you only see a few football fans because what matters there is Basketball, especially the NBA. that's why when they first heard that Kai Sotto will be playing in the NBA Summer League bloggers hype the nation by making multiple contents out of that news and that's why Pilipinos are super excited seeing him play because they were hyped just before the start of the summer league. If they will see Kai Sotto playing just for a few minutes on the court, I'm sure it will be crazy excitement just like a Manny Pacquiao fight in his prime.
It is true. I don't dislike football but I am not a big fan too. I can watch it but it gets me bored in the middle of the game.
Ain't we also happy to know Jordan Clarkson is a Filipino? I mean, every time we identify one player even in the States or Europe with Filipino blood, we love to hype them up as a countrymen. Even the sidekick of Spiderman was hyped by us.  Cheesy

I think they will have the first dibs in the Summer League, those who sign and most likely going to play in the NBA.

And I read that there is a big hype, or at least Filipinos are waiting to see Kai Sotto to play in the Summer league? But so far he hasn't seen action and continue to be bench by the Orlando Magic.

The hype is big because we all know that Filipinos are basketball crazy nation and they want to see their first man to play in the NBA.

I believe in that hype because we are very optimistic that we will see a first full-blooded Filipino in the NBA, however, the way it looks now, it seems like it's not gonna be easy for Kai, but he just has to continue pursuing his ambition. Also, we cannot compare Kai to Pacman as everyone knows Pacman while only those basketball enthusiast knows Kai Sotto.

The Spurs haven't been a playoff team since DeRozan was traded, so this could be a promising start for the team to make it back to the playoffs. However, it's crucial for Wemby to stay healthy, as they need a dominant big guy. If he can contribute an average of 20+ points to the team and maintain his defensive presence, their chances of making a playoff run are quite favorable.

Smart move. He shouldn’t be on the court until he gets more meat on his legs.
Yeah, Pop don't wanna see a 2nd Chet on him and that's why he has to make sure Wemby is on set when the regular season comes.

Popovic has plans for Wemby and Popovic doesn't want anything to happen to him in the summer league.
That's right, he's grooming Wemby into being the face of Spurs and that's why he should be in the best condition when the regular season starts. They can't avail to have him get an injury on this summer league.

Yes, wise decision with Wemby, they have seen him play in the second game and have great numbers. But most likely, they will have to sit down with him and discuss what should they improved.

There are still a lot of games int he schedule of the summer league if I'm not mistaken, so maybe we can also see some players who has the potential to be the next hype player not just Wemby in this draft class or even undrafted players.

The Spurs have seen enough from him, and they want to prevent any potential injuries by preserving him during the regular season. This approach is similar to what happened with Chet when he got injured last season and missed the entire season. The Spurs are likely taking precautions to avoid a similar situation with Wemby if he were to see more action in non-crucial games.

If Wemby will have the same mentality as Timmy and David, he will be accompanied by natural talents,
imagine how Spurs build that winning team, right after the twin towers, together with all those role stars who bring them titles
and with Timmy and their own versions of big 3, Parker, Ginobli and Him.
Coach Pop is the right person for Wemby, I believe that the blueprint will continue as long as the players are willing to
bring all the best that they've got.

They already signed Pop Greg in a multi-year contract looks like they gonna work well to improve Wemby with him and get back those championships in the near future. It's alright when he didn't get big numbers in his first summer league game they are just protecting him to not get some creepy injury that will gonna cost them much if ever that happened. because skills in the NBA cannot be adopted fast by just putting the player on the court no matter how good he is and since he was the main topic of the Summer league I'm sure every player was expected to play hard against him to steal the spotlight.

I was pretty surprised to hear the news that coach Pop signed on for another four years. I had thought he already stated publicly that he was going to retire once his contract was up. I guess he changed his mind. I don’t think he’s going to be able to build Wemby into anything special. Wemby just needs to spend a few years in the weight room.

Anyway, that was the whole plan at first but when they had won the lottery pick, everything has changed and even coach Pop already knew that the front office will ask him to extend his contract as they badly need him to coach the new kid in town that is touted to be the next superstar among all players in his generation, and that indeed happened.

If they didn't get the first pick and also draft Wembanyama maybe there's no assignment left for coach Pop and he decide to resign. But since things got more interesting on their team  as they get a generational talent in team he decide sign for another contract and develop this kid. Good thing he do that because we know coach Pop can develop him into a monster and we see how good he is on his game 2 performance.

Well there's only 2 scenario, either coach Pop will retired as coach of the Spurs but maybe have jobs in the front office, or just re-sign but maybe not 5 years extension.

But since they got Wemby, and maybe coach Pop wanted to develop the young kid so he re-signed and had his coaching tenure for a huge 5 year deal for him. So we are all excited as we all know that coach Pop has proven already in the past, with the likes of David Robinson and Tim Duncan, two big guy so he might have the secret formula applied to Wemby too.

Yes that it is since if we think about it there's nothing to prove as he is so successful coach. But since there's a exceptional talent added in their rooster then maybe he's interest rise up again and decide to continue his coaching career while Wembanyama is there and needed their guidance. This young kid is so lucky since he was handle by Spurs since for sure he will improve by the help of those veterans and his coaching staff

Orlando want fast phase on their gameplay and I think if Kai is there they cannot make that play this is why they decide to play small ball line up to see if their newly acquired players can give them better plays.

They shouldn't get bothered about it since if Kai Sotto show some potential on their work out and practices maybe we can see him running in the floor but I guess the coaching staff didn't impress on what they see then maybe this is the reason why they decide not to use him on their first and second game on summer league.

Regarding the hype, well Lebron didn't get his championship too in the first 8 years of his career. He even needs to fly to Miami Heat just to partner with Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh to claim that first ring of him.
The future is not written yet, there will be lots of improvements that will happen, and how I wish I could see the San Antonio Spurs being back on the map again as a playoff and championship contender. I bet Coach Pops will smile one more time once that happens.  Wink

We're not discussing whether Wemby will win a championship, as that's too high of an expectation. We're talking about whether Wemby will be able to perform as expected, like a genuine NBA star. I have doubts that he will even win the Rookie of the Year award. No disrespect intended, but I see some weaknesses in him that opposing teams could exploit, limiting his impact. It's important to remember that the summer league is very different from the regular season.
Well, I didn't say he will become a champion, yet. I am just trying to compare two hyped players in their rookie year and also how the other one ended up. It's just facts that I shared. I am not expecting too much too. There are not many rookies who made the championship in their first and second years in the league. But if he could at least make it to the playoffs then it will be a big achievement.
And of course, summer league is way different, it's just a showcase of the skills of the new players and the bench. I am not opposing that.

Regarding weaknesses, who doesn't have one when they started the league? There will always be holes in their performances but the important part is how he would improve after. It will also depend on the Spurs' management on what kind of players they will surround Wemby with.

Anyway, they are now resting Victor Wembanyama for the whole summer league. I guess they've seen enough and will now focus on how they will improve whatever weaknesses it is.
