This is the last day without NBA basketball for a while. Tomorrow night we’ll find out the final playoff standings with the results of the play-in tournament. Then it’s everyday NBA playoffs for a while. Best time of the year. This weekend we should have an idea of how the first round is going to go and see which teams are able to take it up a notch.
It's a good time to rest and refresh our minds especially those who will be making their bets. We got to really analyze the game and leave emotions behind. Although I know it cannot be avoided.  Grin

Kings coach Mike Brown voted NBCA's Coach of the Year
https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/36179274/sources-kings-coach-mike-brown-voted-nbca-coach-year
Mike Brown! Yeah! He deserves it.
Quote
After orchestrating one of the most dramatic turnarounds in the league in years and ending a 16-year playoff absence, Sacramento Kings coach Mike Brown has been voted the National Basketball Coaches Association's Coach of the Year, the organization announced Thursday.
Now, we have to wait for the media voting but this will have a big impact on him to win the award.
The four other coaches running for the award.
Quote
Among the other coaches who received votes, sources said: Milwaukee's Mike Budenholzer, Oklahoma City's Mark Daigneault, Boston's Joe Mazzulla and New York's Tom Thibodeau. Each coach votes for one winner and can't vote for himself.
But I do see some media revealing their votes and most of it are for Coach Brown. He will win this one, without a doubt. He made the Kings better, 2006 was their last playoff appearance and now they made it again. A sensational coaching job, thanks to Mike Brown, even I was dragged by the Kings hype.

I just read a report that Andrew Wiggins is expected to play in game 1 of the Kings vs Warriors matchup. This has got to be great news for Warriors fans. Wiggins is a big reason behind their last playoff run as he became a defensive specialist in the playoffs. Things are seemingly coming together at the right time for the Warriors. I hope Wiggins kept in shape during his absence.
Yeah, saw that news and that's why many Warriors fans are blowing up with the first match against the Kings. It was also exposed why he's been absent for a long time and it's personal to take care of his father.
I missed watching him inside the court and those that have bought tickets that are quite expensive and is historical for this match for game 1 is going to be worth it.

True, that's why when the Warriors announcement that Wiggins is not going to play at the regular season, then we know what it means already. That if they make the playoff then definitely he will go and play. He is still one piece of the equation for the Warriors. So they are back with full strength this playoff, with Curry, Thompson, Looney, Green and Wiggins at starting five. And then they have Poole, DiVincenzo and Payton to come-in. And then the 3rd unit will include Moody, Jerome and JaMychal Green, so that is very deep in rotation for them, healthy 100%. With that, it's going to be a fun and exciting series with the Kings, they don't have the advantage in this series, but they have been in this kind of situation before, they are still one of the most dangerous teams outside despite their sixth position. It's hard to beat that championship DNA with the likes of Steph, Klay and Draymond.

It definitely looks like Lakers will do fine. On the other hand Pelicans put themselves at risk, seems like they may not get it at all. In the end the top teams are top teams for a reason and these games shouldn't really matter. They will end up playing against high seed teams anyway so getting the last spot shouldn't really matter. What play-in managed is 10th team being able to both get a better draft position but also have a single series possibly where they will lose but make some extra money because there are some games played at home which would be profit, plus the tv rights and commercials and sponsors etc etc. Aside from that I do not expect Nuggets to lose to any of these teams at all.

I texted one of my best friends in the third quarter of the Bulls Raptors game last night "Bulls suck.  VanVleet is a baller".  I had the second part right, but I not the first, which I guess I'm happy with.  Here's the thing, being a Bulls fan I of course want to see them win, and they certainly have a chance versus the Heat, but they'd be playing Milwaukee next and there's just almost no chance they could even win a game, let along the series.  I don't know exactly how the lotter works, but the sooner they go out, the better the odds they have for a higher draft pick...is that correct..anyone know??

What a game though! A lot of fun to watch.

The thing I’m shocked about right now is Zion Williamson being healthy but not playing because he doesn’t feel like himself. Imagine what Kobe would say… The Zion story is playing out just how I thought it would. He’s too big for the NBA. He’ll never be there when it matters due to injuries, which makes how good he is a moot point.

Situations like this confirm that the current generation of players has become too soft mentally. It's hard to imagine that any player from the '90s and '00s would have allowed himself to miss an important game just because he would have felt like he wasn't himself. Honestly, I immediately thought about Game 5 of the 1997 Finals when Jordan was very sick with the flu, but as hard as it was for him at the time, he still got on the court to help his team win that game. That's probably the kind of thing that separates all-time great players from ordinary players.

Has to do with money really.  Back in the 80s and 90s they didn't have these types of salaries.  Role players now adays can make over 9 figures so no need to end your career.  I don't agree with it but they take more direction from theor agents then they do themselves.  Shame cause zion is fun to watch when he is on the court.  But more and more thinking we will just never see an extended period of time with him.

Pelicans gave everything, but Ingram's effort is not enough. they seems to rely more on him in crunch time as compare to OKC who are really relax in this game and whoever gets the ball are confident that they are going to score. They are going to face the Timberwolves next and it could be sure berth for them if they win.

I don't know which team is better between the Pelicans and Timberwolves, but with the current issues of the Timberwolves, it might affect the team's performance, so OKC might have another upset win again. Gobert was suspended for one game, so he wasn't able to play against the Lakers. But I'm sure he will be playing in their do-or-die game against the OKC. However, as I said, it boils down to what chemistry they will show.
Timberwolves may end up losing this one because we are talking about something that is silly. They had a fight between the team and had to ban Gobert, and mcadoo ended up punching the wall and breaking his hand. Those two things sound like a very silly reasons to be missing out on anything and I feel like there is a chance maybe we could do better than that.
I guess you could really say that because even if the roster is somehow decent, we can't disregard that they are in a hot mess right now and that will likely result into a miscommunication while playing in the game because they are in a middle of misunderstanding. The management might be frustrated by now but they can't do something because the franchise's fate is in the hands of their players which I think the Thunder will take advantage of their situation now.

I am not saying that we need to be doing any better or something like that but Pelicans at least do not have that. They have the full roster basically, they are missing Zion as always and that is normal at his point, I am not really expecting him to be playing that much in his entire career, maybe finish with less than like 400-500 games total, so its fine.
They had a good run and they almost defeated the Thunders but we all know that almost isn't as good enough as that was their entire chance to play in the playoffs. The roster is already fed up by Zion's absence as his presence could really increase his chance. But no, that fatty was just too selfish and choose to be overweight instead of being fit enough to help his team.

Definitely wasn't expecting the Raptors to lose at home. I watched the first half and stopped watching, thinking the game was done for. As Raptors looked fairly solid in it. Surprising result for sure but it was fairly close. A few clutch plays here and there, and the result could have been different.
That may be because you underestimated the Bulls. I have seen this Bulls team come back before from a huge deficit, and they just did it again. The good thing is that Lavine is playing like an MVP, so you cannot count this team out. The Raptors are good as a unit, but they do not have much experience in big games as was concluded. They won a championship, but that was with the old squad. Most of them now are new, though they have the same head coach.

Yes, I guess majority of the bettors think that the Toronto Raptors had this game already. But DeRozan and specially Lavine doesn't want to lose this one. They come back from a huge lead and win this game.

And with this they are going to South Beach to face the Heat if I'm not mistaken.

The Pelicans and Thunder are still playing, Pelicans has a slight lead after the first half.

What a game, right? Play-in this year have been more interesting to watch compared last year, IMO. All four teams are good and the games were too tight to know which team will have the win at the end of the day. The Bulls rallied in the 2nd half and left the Raptors by surprise because they were unable to chase the gap that was made by the Bulls.

Then we have the Pelicans and Thunder who are both decent, but the Thunder prevailed, and they will be on the road to face the Minnesota in Minneapolis.

I didn’t watch the Bulls vs Raptors game but I did catch the end of the New Orleans Pelicans vs Oklahoma City Thunder game and that was exciting. I was back and forth several times over the last two minutes over who I thought was going to win. I can’t help but think if Zion would even put in a few minutes when it counts maybe this team’s outcome would be a lot different.
Indeed it will be a different outcome if Zion Williamson is available.
The game was remarkably great, I can see the Thunder just calm with every play they will make especially Josh Giddey. He just made me a fan of his because of that. I mean, I had been betting for him in the props but when it comes to nail-biting games I didn't see him panic for a moment. 1 rebound shy of a triple-double and I bet his future will be so bright after this. What more if he can put the OKC in the playoffs even if it's just for the 8th seed?
SGA and him will be a good combo as the face of their franchise.

Anyway, I think it's the first time that both 9th seeded teams lost to 10th seeded teams since the play-in tournament has implemented. We are now seeing play-in tournaments that are like playoffs already. The games are really entertaining. I'm not hoping that all playoff games will be like this, but I hope that most will. Cheesy
I didn't see that. Thanks for reminding me. Yes, both are 10th seeds and now they have a chance for the playoff ticket.
They are definitely entertaining and watching both live feels like it is in the playoffs.
The results suck mostly for the Pelicans. They are tied with the Timberwolves but because of the tie rule they are seeded in the 9th place and now they don't even have a chance for the playoffs. The same goes with the Raptors who are tied with the Hawks which is now taking the 7th seed.

Los Angeles Lakers defeated Minnesota 108-102 in the match that went to overtime in the qualifying game played last night. There was great contention especially in the last seconds of the match and Dennis Schröder dominated the match in extra time. Although LeBron James was the top scorer of the match, Dennis Schroeder's effective play in overtime contributed greatly to the Los Angeles Lakers winning the game. Who will come from play in in the Western Conference?

The Timberwolves almost got a victory on their behalf but the Lakers was just too persistent in that game because they are also trying to reach the playoffs as they have failed from their run last season. This time with the current line-up they've got, I think they can reach much further but talking about the championship game, they should improve more because what they got is not enough to beat high caliber teams with young and stronger cores. So, we'll see if they can outsmart the Grizzlies in the first round.

LeBron has already aged, and he is not the same player he was during his championship years. Although he still has a decent game, he is getting older. In the last game, the Lakers were a bit lucky, and as we witnessed, LeBron made a lot of mistakes. If they play against a better team, they will not be able to win with that performance.

Of course, LeBron isn't as fast as he was in his prime. However, I disagree that he made a lot of mistakes in the last game. Just look at LeBron's stats, he scored 30 points with a good field goal percentage, grabbed 10 rebounds, and made 6 assists. I think it was a good performance by LeBron, and it's obvious he was the reason the Lakers were able to beat the Wolves.
Sure, he also had a few mistakes (5 turnovers) in that game, but that doesn't matter.

This makes me curious, why is that LeBron's mistake doesn't matter? The Wolves almost took the game from them, and they could've been playing against the Thunder tomorrow. Of course, mistakes matter because those turnovers are the most reasons why a team failed after having a good run and if you see the stats, the Wolves didn't waste those turnovers and converted it into points on their favor.

Zion need to learn from his injuries acquired since if he remain like that Pelicans might lose interest on him. He need to get motivated to lose weight since that is one of the reason why he is injury prone. They need to win against Thunder but he's not available at the movement, to bad for Pelicans because there supposed to be a star player on the team is not always available when they need him.

Don't know if that's inevitable or not because Zion and the management agreed that he should lose some weight and he will earn more from his contract if he'll able to play more games this season and will receive less if another injury will persist that is connected to his weight issues. Unfortunately, it seems that Zion wasn't inspired by that rule given by the Pelicans management. Now if he can't do something for himself, the Pelicans might trade him.

The Pelicans and Thunder are still playing, Pelicans has a slight lead after the first half.
They have been so predictable compared to OKC, where they do not rely too much on SGA. It was an entertaining game, and from the very beginning, despite the Pelicans having the lead, I always believed that OKC would not give the game easily. As I saw it, they were making great adjustments in the second half and had beaten the home team in a very close game.

OKC play all in and they really push the game for their favor, SGA as the main alpha didn't disappoint their fans as he really steps up
and take that important shot to take the lead and then win the game.

Nothing to say about NO, they play also what they've thought can win the game. It's just the last-minute adjustments that matter and OKC have that enough energy to get the win.

I agree, OKC is really a very dangerous team in this play-in, and there could be days that they are going to play and spoil the game in their favor. Just like in this game, it was very close but SGA proved himself and Josh Giddey as the duo put the game here.

It was really the energy because, if we look at the scorecards, a lot of players on the OKC roster contributed. SGA is their alpha, but he didn't start strong. It was Dort who started strong, and then Giddey was aggressive in attacking and sharing the ball. Overall, it was the OKC who played with great ball movement, while McCollum was the missing piece for the Pelicans.
