Phoenix Mercury vs Chicago Sky

Caught this game while browsing stake.com. The Chicago Sky is playing well and with 1.65 odds on them, I think it is a good bet. Kahleah Copper is everywhere and is now 11 points. Hopefully, they can continue in the next half and win this game.

Let's bump this up because WNBA is starting. Let's go!!!!

Games tomorrow:
Washington Mystics versus New York Liberty
Indiana Fever versus Connecticut Sun
Minnesota Lynx versus Chicago Sky
L.A. Sparks versus Phoenix Mercury

That's a lot of games and I need to update myself to the rosters of the teams. But there's one team that I am pretty sure I will bet for, New York Liberty.
With Breanna Stewart on their roster now, they are definitely one of the formidable teams that will dominate this league. With Stewie's help, they will be a championship contender paired with Jonquel Jones and Sabrina Ionescu. Even the 2022 Champions Las Vegas Aces will probably have a tough time against them.
New York Liberty -2.5

@YuginKadoya, let's change the title to 2023 WNBA Discussion and Betting

I totally forgot about the starting game of the WNBA because the NBA playoffs are still in progress, but I already have updated the thread for the 2023 WNBA topic, Discussion, and Betting Prediction is officially updated, Thanks guys,

Was very busy with a lot of things but after seeing that the WNBA has already started I am really surprised I think I will look for the teams who are new right now and right now the recent game Las Vegas Aces the defending champions have done a great job in winning against the Seattle Storm and it was a one-sided match,

My picks for tomorrow's game on the WNBA

Connecticut Sun VS Washington Mystics

The stake odds for this game are 1.87 for the Suns and 1.80 for the Mystics, Right now Lauren Cox, will not play because of personal problems, while Myisha Hines-Allen is out and can not play for the Mystics, well it is the start of the season so it is pretty much hard to predict but I am going with the team that made it to the Semi-finals last season so my pick is the Connecticut Suns,

New York Liberty VS Indiana Fever

The stake odds for this game are 1.02 for Liberty and 9.20 for Indiana Fever, Right now Nyara Sabally is doubtful and Marine Johannes can not play for the Liberty while Bernadett Hatar can not play for the Fever, in this game I am going with the team that makes it to the playoffs, so my pick is the New York Liberty, but will not going to bet at all for this game,

Phoenix Mercury VS Chicago Sky

The stake odds for this game are 1.53 for the Mercury and 2.30 for the Chicago Sky, right now Sophie Cunningham and Megan Gustafson are both questionable if they can play, and Shey Peddy and Skylar Diggins-Smith both can not play for the Mercury, while Li Yueru is out for this season,
Isabelle Harrison and Ruthy Hebard both can not play for this game, with my pick I am going with the Chicago Sky

Games later.

Connecticut Sun (1.77) versus Washington Mystics (1.94) - My pick - Connecticut Sun ML
After the Mystics defeated Liberty yesterday, they look like the stronger team but I doubt they can easily defeat the Sun who also won against Fever yesterday.

New York Liberty (1.05) versus Indiana Fever (7.80) - The other pick is -15.5 and I don't like it. From what they showed against the Mystics, they may not be in condition yet. I know they will win this game but the profits are too low for the money line so I'll pass. I think I am better off just watching the game instead.  Cheesy

Phoenix Mercury (1.63) versus Chicago Sky (2.18) My pick - Phoenix Mercury ML
Brittney Griner showed some thirst for coming back in the league by making 18 points against the Sparks but that is not enough to win the game as the Ogwumike sisters dominated the game and blew them out in the process.
Now, I bet the Mercury will try everything to win against the Sky and show their strength. Time to win.

Let start bumping this thread, same with you. I really like Stewart not sure if he's a power forward or an all around,

and yes, after jumping to Liberty I think the chance of winning a title with his new team is very possible
it's just a matter of how they will adjust from one another and how they will execute their game plan.

I want to see her playing the way when he is still in Settle that same game set up where he can really
contribute to the team.
Lost my bet for the New York Liberty.

A slow start from them as Steward only made 12 points in 34 minutes. I don't think they are in condition yet. Washington Mystics on the other hand is in a good start earning their first win in the season. The points are distributed well and everyone was contributing.

Here are the results of the games today.
Indiana Fever 61 - Connecticut Sun 70
Washington Mystics 80 - New York Liberty 64
Minnesota Lynx 66 - Chicago Sky 77
Los Angeles Sparks 84 - Phoenix Mercury 62 (still playing with 4 minutes left) it's obvious who will win this match.

Summing it up, only the Mystics made an upset today. If I am right.

What an interesting move for Stewart. I really love her in terms of his high IQ playing the game. She adjusted a lot during FIBA hoping
to see her doing the same with her new team.

Liberty adding another firepower 2-way player, a superstar who can contribute from
both ends, scoring wise. She's not just a scoring machine but a real star who can bring
huge impact on their offensive attacks.
New York Liberty is now the biggest threat to the defending champion Las Vegas Aces. But the Aces are also strengthening their team by signing Candace Parker on a 1-year deal. Candace Parker entered free agency and that is when they hook her up. The good part is, Candace also loved the deal as being on West Coast will also make her closer to her family, according to her long Instagram post.
https://www.instagram.com/p/Cn-cIIYyMde/?utm_source=ig_web_button_share_sheet
Well, that makes the two teams equal again, the balance was somehow back to normal.
But first, we need to see how the chemistry will work out with the newly created roster of the Liberty, Stewart can make her own shots and so does Jonquel Jones as long as someone will pass the ball to her posting up.
How the other players will react though is something to look forward to, especially the veterans of the said team. I mean, this will all be new to them.

Now Liberty is now a super team.
Jonquel Jones
Sabrina Ionescu
Didi Richards
Michaela Onyenwere
and the WNBA player I idolized most who plays like KD - Breanna Stewart.
They are a team who will be difficult to defeat, definitely a title contender.

Although Breanna left Seattle Storm she didn't forget to give thanks to her former team.

I haven't seen any thread here so I made one, well I think there are not many who wants to discuss the woman's NBA but it is worth the shot,
That's probably because nobody or less than 1% of the sports bettors in this forum gamble on their games. WNBA are not generating enough revenue year on year to sustain the operations and the last time I read anything significant about them was that they're able to raise millions early this year for a business model revamp.

As Bill Burr said so eloquently, the WNBA has been failed by women. Women aren’t supporting women’s sports the way men (or women) support men’s sports. This leads to a major difference in revenue and thus salaries for players. If women supported women’s sports more, maybe networks would start making a bigger deal about their games and people might eventually take an interest.
Exactly. Rarely do I ever see WNBA seats being filled and let alone having women fans, despite the fact that it is a derivative of the sport that they so fought for to have a version dedicated to women. Just saddening how "women empowerment" only works when it's convenient for them.

Yeah right, she should learn or not just her but everyone should and not to repeat this same mistake when travelling outside your country
US can't protect them everywhere.

Let's focus on WNBA and the chance of seeing her playing inside the court again,
it will help her to forget the issue that she was during her detention inside Russia's soil.

In actuality, I am against the prison swap, the worst criminals would let lose and for Brittney Griner to have a minor offense of a crime should be treated with utmost high regard by the government, and making a swap like that that have really done something wrong have really made me think that Biden administration was very low and poor with their decisions Griner was really sentenced and have committed a crime if that smuggle narcotics was not illegal in the US well think again because there are far more worst sentence in the different countries, even here in the Philippines smuggle narcotics is really illegal and for me, I think that Brittney Griner is really lucky to just have 10 years in prison but if she was arrested in a different country my point here is what if she was caught in one of these countries, worst case death penalty,

China

In China, if you are caught with drugs, you could be forced to attend drug rehab in a facility run by the government. Execution is the penalty for some drug crimes

Vietnam

In Vietnam, drug crimes are taken very seriously. If you are arrested with more than 1.3 pounds of heroin, you will automatically be executed

Iran

If you are caught with drugs in Iran, the best-case scenario is a large fine and the worst-case scenario is the death penalty

Thailand

In Thailand, those trafficking narcotics may be put to death. Drug users are frequently sentenced to mandatory rehab

Saudi Arabia

The sale of drugs in Saudi Arabia almost always results in the death penalty. Saudi Arabia and judicial authorities are not inclined to make exceptions. Alcohol use is illegal in Saudi Arabia, and possession or use of alcohol or drugs can be punished by public flogging, fines, lengthy imprisonment, or death

Singapore

Singaporean police will assume that you are selling drugs if you are caught with relatively small amounts. If you are convicted of selling drugs, you will be sentenced to death

Well, I really don't know if the article is updated because in the Philippines there are now different offenses for illegal drug possession, here is the ARTICLE

True. I was so surprised that the Biden Administration would be willing to trade in an Arms dealer that they took lots of respurces to capture, over someone like Brittney. Then again I do not mean any offense to her or her family but just comparing how integral it is to keep thwt arms dealer behind bars and Biden being more than willing to let him go is just astonishing for me.

To add: Griner also plans to join Phoenix Mercury only, nothing else. I hope she succeeds and gets her contract.

This might be the news that fans wanted to hear from her, not what happened from the past but whatever her plans now as long as she
still showing interest to play back then, it's good to discuss.

Though it's still far from now, but having a contract and make herself available for practices together with
the team will give a good light to those fans who are waiting for her comeback.

The problem is we cannot just leave our countrymen in another country's government or that will give us problems when our own people start to retaliate from the spark made by the family of the imprisoned one. Prison swaps are okay for me as long as it's a fair exchange. This will inflict a positive reaction and will justify that our own government is doing something or they do care.

Anyway, after some time she now became an advocate for those detained on Russian soil.
Here is one of them.
Quote
"There remain too many families with loved ones wrongfully detained," Griner wrote. "I hope you will join me in writing to Paul Whelan and continuing to advocate for other Americans to be rescued and returned to their families."

Nice news but I will directly go to the possibility that he will come back and play before that retirement, still young and he can add
spice to the league, so better bring that excitement to all her fans.

We might see her back wearing a WNBA uniform, not sure what will be her setup but I still
believe that she missed the game and after that psychological test, she and her agent
will decide what will be the plan next.

Well she surely will be back to ball but maybe after that assessment on the psychological test, but for me, I think she needs to get rehab for using illegal drugs instead of getting that psychological test, in my opinion, the WNBA needs to have her a penalty in using it in Russian soil, even though it is legal in the US it doesn't mean she can do whatever she wants in a different country,
Let's hope they will, just to be fair with other players because I think there are also people who are not happy just like you.
Also, just to make it clear that this should not happen again or be repeated by either her or other players just because their country will protect them.

It will the problem of WNBA, she should not get back without clearance first. Clear from any illegal substance in her body and they have to make sure she won't be going back to that. Perhaps, they could provide a clause that will say about forfeiting the contract if ever she does it again.

Good Idea! though I know there are many fans that want her to play in next year's season I think she needs to get cleared first, well it is a sure privileged to be free while you have committed something illegal in another country and even though it is Legal in the US, athletes should really avoid the used of drugs, it is not really a good role model for the new generations, and for this issue, I think not only Brittney Griner but with the list of players in the WNBA to be positive of drug abuse so a certain incident like this will not be repeated,

Let's hope they will, just to be fair with other players because I think there are also people who are not happy just like you.
Also, just to make it clear that this should not happen again or be repeated by either her or other players just because their country will protect them.

Well, I am not actually happy I thought that they will let her finish her sentence on Russian soil which is not really that long, and because of her foolish actions Viktor Bout a prison swap exchange for her freedom, an arms dealer is now free and can roam Russian soil aswell, but I am not saying that Viktor Bout is evil incarnate (strong word) I think that his actions were just illegal and fairly enough trading Griner with Bout if you balanced their case Viktor Bout has a way bigger crime than Griner, but surely it all ends up to this but like you I wish it will not happen again,

And WNBA's return schedule will be next year, Saturday, May 20, 2023, so Brittney Griner has plenty of time to fix her issues, and clear her system of drugs,

Many Fans will be glad about this news but why am I not the only one that is happy, well maybe she got an offense that she needed to take responsibility for it, a case that is not settled yet, for me her arrest was not some political agenda but it is what it is and on the Russian country she needs to take responsibility for her action and illegal drugs is really not legal in Russian soil,

Big news for all the WNBA fans.
I saw this just recently when Candace Parker was doing the commentator job for TNT yesterday in Los Angeles.
The look on Candace Parker's face is a combined happiness and relief. For now, Griner is under psychological tests and I think it will take months before she recovers from the impact of being detained on another country's soil.

The big question for Griner though now that she is home, what's next? It's still unclear if she will go back to WNBA or if it will mean retirement and trying a new job.

I really think she is great at bullying Shaquille O'Neal when she was on TNT and it is a great idea in getting her back to be a substitute for absent commentators, I really think she is happy in what she is doing and for her to be this great I think when she retired from playing she got a career for her, while I think Brittney Griner will return to the ball for the Phoenix Mercury, she said that when she gets back home she will surely play this season,

What I want to know is if there is an effect of testosterone to already grown women. Will it affect their performance in their current sport. I know for some sports, they do not allow transgender men to compete in women's sports if they were transgender past a certain age. That is the age when testosterone already affected their growth. If testosterone still gives a certain advantage against straight females in basketball, it should not be allowed. That should be considered cheating. But if testosterone has very little effect on the physical abilities of women after they reach a certain age, then they should allow trans women to play in WNBA. I am more concerned about the fairness of the sports than if they are born women or not.

Sorry about the misunderstanding, what I mean is Men Hormones if a woman is injecting Men Hormones it will surely change her not just her voice and physical appearance but even her muscle build, because she now has men Hormones in her body that could surely affect the way she is now inside the ring or play on the court, body muscle for strength is mostly the change it will do to women, and Testosterone is most likely seen in both men and women, injecting men or women Hormones does makes a huge effect on both men and women, on the appearance and body physique, so it is not really allowed, sorry for the late reply just been busy because the NBA has already started,

It's your point of view and your right but we both know that there are always other's side.

Other opinions regarding to this matter and it's also  their own take about this topic, but yes I'm good with your explanation and if considering  the fact then it's not racist at all it's just getting the point from both business and sports side. More on how opinions will be taken  and be considered.

Well, it is surely a different topic, and many surely will have a different stand on this but this is just what I think, but it is better to just respect their beliefs and respect what are they thinking, and what are the sports official and surely the people on what their take, and we can not force them to really like the WNBA we have different likes and for me, I am just enjoying what I like and waiting for some news for the WNBA if there are some trade that may commence or some news about the players or the WNBA itself feel free to post it here,
