im not putting down slushs pool, It is the best choice for me right now, I have significantly mined on the top pools recently and have been studying this very subject. I love Slush's pool but I tell you I loved it more 100 g/hash ago.

I know that theoretically the round times and the rewards per share should all equal out, I understand that but the reality is because of the luck involved in finding blocks, they just dont.

Its a combination of luck/difficulty and user/speed ratios

DeepBit's average round time is the shortest anywhere, and because of all the competition the rewards are very very small, however they still get nailed with 90 min rounds every now and then... plus the fees kill you

if you go to the smaller guys like BTCMine or BTC Guild you get much bigger rewards per round, but those guys are still seeing 4, 5 hour rounds

in theory yes it all equals out in the end but I have really been studying this to some depth and I really believe there is a sweet spot so to speak, where you have a high enough g/hash range to effectively mine but not too high to make competition for the 50 BTC per round too fierce.

I am actually going to write an article about this and publish my findings, there's a real quantifiable speed/user ratio that does make a difference despite what everyone says about things equaling out.

It's not the pool, it's the difficulty. Plugging in that number to the following:

The average is 836 days for a 50 BTC block, of which you'd get 49BTC so you'll need on average 17 days for 1 BTC. Just the way it is, don't know what hardware you run but you probably want to check if you're using more power than it would cost to buy BTC. Some single cards can pull about 50 times higher hash rate than that.

Why do you care how much you get per round? With more users, yes, you get less per round, but there are more rounds. It all evens out and decreases your variance.

unfortunately Slush's pool is starting to get deepbit syndrome....

There are so many miners now that competition on the pool for rewards is huge

I am mining with over a 1 g/hash and my reward per round is sinking and sinking

I used to get almost .20 per round a couple weeks ago, now I'm lucky if I get .11 and I am starting to see more and more rounds at .08, .09

kind of sucks, its really going to hurt when the difficulty goes up again

I used to get a bitcoin every 4 days from this pool, then every 5, then every 6, now I just don't get any bitcoins ever. Last bitcoin was on 5/10. I'd like to think that averaging 14500khash/s is pretty good, don't you? But no luck.

Database migration done. Pool didn't fall, so maybe (maybe!) all those changes helped.

Well I did check that and it shows the following:

My client program in Windows shows 8 connections but never shows any coins in the balance box.

I have also run with no firewall software and plugged directly into my cable modem.

I even started bitcoin.exe with the -rescan option, which did not help either.

No idea what to do next.


EDIT:

I screwed up the rule for iptables and had the IRC port forwarded. Removed the forward and I now have 73 connections but still no balance showing.

EDIT2:

Ok, I deleted all files in the directory except wallet.dat and restarted the bitcoin client. When all blocks were downloaded the transaction finally went through.

OK, I made some changes yesterday, so I'm going to watch if it helped; 10.00 UTC is soon. There will be short downtime even if it don't fall itself, because I'll migrate DB (which I didn't want to do yesterday, because of one extra downtime).

Im sure this has been asked before but I am a total bitcoin noob.

Where can I get a wallet address? How can I transfer my mined coins in there?

Since it happens in particular time, i am sure some task scheduling or automatic updates like that are setup(windows user, don't know abt linux...), also even antivirus, backup, many things run at predefined specific time. If you just look at task manager what takes more cpu at that time, then u can be 100 % sure where is problem.
In my pc lavasoft ad-aware runs many times itself, even though i have no scheduled task & its service takes 25% cpu causing high cpu for 20-30 minutes.
If i see, i just kill it. If not it just increases cpu temp.

I hope very minor glitch is giving major problem.

One thing you can do is look in the block explorer for your address.  If the transaction is there the problem is on your end.  If not the problem is on Slush's end.

Slush, I finally met the payment threshold 04/23/2011 at 4:27 and got an email saying that it paid out, but no coins are showing up in my Windows Bitcoin client (It is now 25 hrs later and still no coins). I double checked my address and it is correct. The Windows Bitcoin client is showing connections. Is something wrong on your end or mine? If it is on my end, do you have any suggestions?

lol true their support isn't all that great. There is also a big language barrier as all their support staff are French Canadians with somewhat weak English skills.

Rackspace seems to always make it in Netcraft's top "most reliable web host" ranking.

I dunno, in the end it's up to you decide to go with.

If you ever decide to change hosting, I would be very happy if it stays in Europe, ( I take it they are in London now ? ) your pool is the only one with which I have acceptable latency. All the other ones are far from here ( France ) , and I get a lot of stale shares with them.
